Causeway Week: #10 UC Davis (8-2) vs. #11 Sac State (8-2)

If you watch the video of the highlights from the 2019 game on this article about the 2021 game, you can see the exact moment all the knee troubles began for Pierre Williams 25 seconds in.

I watched the EW / UCD Game. SAC ST needs to be careful on special teams (kick offs) as that is the only thing that kept UCD close the first half of that game last week.
That kick off returner is a spark plug for ags. Squib those is my opinion and wear them down and put the hammer down in the second half! 42-14 Sac St Victorious!
Hopefully those players rested last week and will be back on the lineup. Get a first round bye to heal and recover!

I remember that play. Eerily similar to what happened to him several weeks ago.

Let’s hope he’s good to go for the Causeway or at the very least the postseason. The Hornets really need him.

Seriously, think how difficult it must be preparing for Hornets offense these days when everyone is available.

Suppose the opposition’s defensive coordinator subscribes to the Bill Belichick tactic of taking away the best player. Who or what do you take away?

Take away Williams, the Hornets have got Marshel Martin and several talented freshmen receivers. Try to focus on the pass game as a whole, they’ve got a stud freshman back in Skattebo who breaks tackles like no other. And several other good backs in Fulcher and Perkinson.

Take away the primary run threat and oh yeah, they’ve got a dual threat QB that can option you to death. And as soon as your linebackers and DB’s are stepping up to help stop that, it all circles back to Pierre Williams and Co. getting open behind them.

As long as the offensive line plays well and unforced penalties are avoided, it’ll be difficult for any defense to slow down the Hornets offensive attack. They’re just so well rounded and multi-dimensional.

I have been critical of the dual QB tactic and am still not a fan of it, but after a slow start they eventually made it work. Props for that. Hope it continues to succeed.

These are all really good hypotheticals. Worst case scenario is we are without Williams, Perkinson, and Powell on D.

I don't think my football brain is big enough to layout a plan to stop the Hornets, but it has to involve a savvy Sr. safety like Erron Duncan keeping tabs on who the QB is at all times, perhaps spying when O'Hara is in and field safety when Dunniway is.

We saw PSU stack the box on O'Hara plays and do a mostly good job of shutting down the speed option doing that. From the Hornet perspective, I'll be watching for O'Hara to pass more out of that formation, and get the ball to Skat and Fulch in creative ways, rather than an option read. I would also love to see the same formation with predetermined tosses to the wide side of the field with Gable or Fulcher, along with the inside runs to Skat.

It seems like with Miller, Gandy, and flashes of Clayton, we'll be fine at WR. Dunniway has been dropping dimes all year. And while I think he has more wheels than he has shown this season, I don't want him to get hurt because O'Hara isn't the passing QB for a reason.

Maybe a trick play for Bennett? Do we fake our first punt or FG of the year.

Can't wait for this game.

For those that are interested, the Dungpile are a 2 point favorite in the online sport books.

Take the Aggies for big money. Ready for your annual Causeway beatdown Hornets?

Given the result the last time the teams played, you might want to brush up on the definition of annual.

Wow, Montana is going to beat MSU, and we should secure autobid and at least share of conference title by the start of the causeway second quarter.
