Causeway Week Starts Now....

Davis is drubbing Idaho on the road, so we might as well start the convo. Davis wins the game and they are in the playoffs. If we win the game, we are the #1 seed in the playoffs.

Oh yeah, and we can share the conference title and have an undefeated regular season.

Not so fast I guess... Idaho on the comeback trail

Final from Moscow, Idaho...
UC Davis 44 - Idaho 26

The Causeway Classic game just got a whole lot more interesting. We're playing for a perfect regular season, the Big Sky Conference Championship and the #1 seed in the FCS playoffs. The Aggies are playing for a spot in the tournament. This is gonna be fun!

We don't use that word here.

The horse humpers will be facing a "win and in" scenario in this one. Should make things very interesting, it should also get this game to sellout levels of attendance. Lots at stake for us as well. A win gets us at least a share of the BSC crown and at worst a 2 seed in the playoffs.

Duly noted. 👍

A source told SacBee’s Cameron Salerno that 19,000+ tickets have already been sold for next Saturday. Might we see SRO or end zone bleachers?!

Aggies on a 5 game win streak, and Troy Taylor the hottest head coach in FCS.

Troy Taylor 20-1 in Big Sky games, with the one lose to #3 Weber in 2019.

Enjoy it while you can as your 2 starting 2 QBs will graduate.

Nobody tell him about our two three-star QBs waiting in the wings who might be even better passing/rushing threats. 😳

Us? We are #2 and getting first-place votes in all polls. We have 7 first-place votes in the STATS Poll, 5 in the Coaches Poll, and 22 in the AGS Poll.

Several fans on the Aggie fan site claim when visiting Hornet Stadium, being the recipients of vulgar language and troublesome behavior. Even when accompanied by children.

Do you condone such behavior?

I’ve been to about 10 causeways at Hornet stadium, and I think the only arrests I ever heard of were two Davis fans fighting.

My animal brain want to tell you and everyone at Aggie Sports Talk to stop being such pussies, and to not be afraid of rap music and beers.

The dad brain says, have I heard bad language at games? Sure. Is it abusive or threatening? Never in my experience. Anything ever said to an opponent’s fans that I’ve heard is always pretty benign, jocular. This isn’t SEC country.

The long time ago I went to a game at that manure filled cesspool for a Causeway, my buddy and I were both physically assaulted (as you know they travel in herds and we were outnumbered a good 3 to 1). Since then I've never stepped foot on that campus. I don't ever want to hear any of those people complain about "bad language".

Week 12 - #2 vs #24 Causeway

The 2nd ranked Hornets (10-0, 7-0 BSC) are going for a three-peat and a shot at a top seed in the FCS playoffs as they host a 24th ranked (6-3, 5-2 BSC) opponent who likely grabs a playoff spot if they can pull the upset. They come into this game on a 5 game winning streak, most of which came against the dregs of the Big Sky, however last week's impressive 44-26 win at 15th ranked Idaho puts a quality win on their resume’.

Offensively, they come into this game firing on all cylinders out of a shotgun read-option attack. After early season struggles against quality opponents, they have managed to get things in order against weaker defenses. They completely dominated a respectable Idaho defense last week. Quarterback Miles Hastings (235/331, 2741 yds, 19 TD, 5 INT) has come a long way this season and has looked a lot better throwing the ball down the field as of late. Their offense rides predominantly on the shoulders of All-American running back Ulonzo Gilliam (183 car, 1132 yds, 12 TD, 48 rec, 345 yds) and they do a good job of getting the ball into his hands (37% of the touches). The key targets in the passing game are wide receiver CJ Hutton (40 rec, 404 yds, 4 TD) and tight end McCallan Castles (29 rec, 342 yds, 2 TD). Their offensive line play has been very good during their winning streak.

Offensive Team Stats
  • Points scored per game: 37.4 (4th BSC)
  • Total Offense: 493.1 ypg (199.3 rushing ypg / 293.8 passing ypg) (3rd/2nd BSC)
  • Turnovers: 6/2 (INT/Fum)
  • Redzone: 42/47 - 29/13 (TD/FG)

Their defense operates from the 3-4 and have had a respectable season. Their secondary has snagged 12 picks on the season but similarly to the Hornets, they have struggled to get sacks. They are led by safety Rex Connors (81 tkl, 4 TFL, 4 INT) and linebacker Teddye Buchanan (33 tkl, 2 TFL, 3 INT) is a wrecking ball when healthy. Defensive end Zach Kennedy (26 tkl, 8.5 TFL, 4 sac) is their main disruptor at the line of scrimmage and leads the team in tackles for loss and sacks.

Defensive Team Stats
  • Points allowed per game: 21.2 (3rd BSC)
  • Total Defense: 387.5 ypg (154.1 rushing ypg / 233.4 passing ypg) (6th/4th BSC)
  • Turnovers Forced: 12/7 (INT/Fum)
  • Redzone: 28/36 - 19/9 (TD/FG)

Their special teams have been solid. Returner Lan Larison has the potential to make plays in the return game and kicker Isaiah Gomez (16/22 FG, 40/42 PAT) is solid inside of 50 yards and has a long of 46 yards.

Hornet Team Stats
  • Points scored per game: 43.0 (1st BSC)
  • Points allowed per game: 21.9 (4th BSC)
  • Total Offense: 486.6 ypg (256.7 rushing ypg / 229.9 passing ypg) (2nd/7th BSC)
  • Total Defense: 368.0 ypg (128.1 rushing ypg / 239.9 passing ypg) (3rd/7th BSC)
  • Turnovers: 10/8 (INT/Fum)
  • Turnovers Forced: 8/8 (INT/Fum)
  • Redzone Offense: 47/54 - 39/8 (TD/FG)
  • Redzone Defense: 25/30 - 19/6 (TD/FG)

This game has shootout potential. On paper, these teams are pretty even. However when you dig down a little one team stepped up to the challenge against top tier opponents, and one didn’t. They like to mix in some trick plays and gimmicks to try and get an edge so that will be something to look for. The Hornet defense will have to find a way to limit Gilliam’s impact if they want to win their 3rd straight Causeway. On offense, the Hornets just have to keep doing what they are doing and stick to the script. This will be a close one as they will be doing all that they can to extend their season. I’m picking the Hornets.

So you won't take a stance against vulgarity around or directed near children. Got it. (I don't condone vulgarity or threats around women or children, Hornet, Aggie, Beaver, whatever. Pretty clear.)

I haven't witnessed it, but I've been warned several times in the past, and Fresno is horrible. But I see here, even when likely sober, you're using college locker room slurs. Living down to the J Street Tech reputation. Sac can do better. Really. Katz has class, so does Troy Taylor. Using the race card a draw, a contemporary woke fantasy.

SD Hornet - is it really a stadium when there are bleachers? P.S. Our "cesspool" now has killer BBQ, pizza, craft beer, and food trucks.

Lol. I find it pretty comical that a fan of a university that allowed a band with a rape/grooming culture to manifest itself on campus for decades is coming on here to tell us how classless were.

Not sure what the Fresno comment has to do with anything, but I had nothing but a great experience while tailgating at Fresno a few years ago when we were down there. I think that comment on the atmosphere at a fellow CSU is just your arrogant uc elitism shining through.

Ahhhhh, I love causeway week. Lol

Why have you not denounced your university’s use of the surname “Davis?!” You and everyone at the school are obviously racists, who condone and support the use of the Confederacy’s President’s name - Jefferson Davis!

Booooooo, #CancelDavis, #ThinkOfTheChildren!!!!!

Haha, perfect.
Since UCFE is 80% Asians from Pacific Rim countries, have they ever heard of Jefferson Davis?

FUCD

Tell that doofus to stay away from the trapdoor in the visitor side upper level of the 'bleachers'.

More racist comments? BTW, we Aggies are only roughly 50% Asian today, but being UC eligible, we're obviously better at basic math.

BTW, if you put a few million into the Hornets Nest it might be an acceptable high school gym.

What makes you believe he has to acquiesce to your demands and take a stance or answer anything you ask? Besides, you didn’t respond to or denounce the behavior SDHornet and Kadeezy experienced at the Manure Pile. Hypocrite.

But I’ll take a stance, if you don’t want your kids to hear vulgarity at a football game — leave them at home! You’re the adult right? You know what goes on at games, not just at the Causeway but at every intense college rivalry. So stop with the nonsense.

Besides, these kids today see, read and hear much, much worse on their mobile devices (and at school) that most parents don’t seem interested in monitoring or limiting in any way and I highly doubt you’re the exception or sole voice of reason. So GTFO with the virtue signaling crap.

Lastly, you’re over here trolling our site. Not the other way around. You believing that you sit atop some type of moral high ground or are more virtuous is about the most hilarious thing I’ve read in quite a while.

LMFAO at FCS fans touting facilities. Really?

But if you really wanna go that route….

How many Nat’l Track events has UCD hosted? Hornet Stadium sure is the furthest thing from a palace, no doubt. But it has routinely hosted the big track and field events, as well as Sectional, Regional, and State HS Football Championships. UCD sure doesn’t. I guess the killer BBQ, pizza, craft beer, and food trucks ain’t all that after all.

FWIW, the Hornets attracted several thousand more fans to their last home game than UCD has drawn their past two home games. And the Hornets past 3 home games has outdrawn all 5 UCD home games. The Hornets lowest attended game this season outdrew 4 of the 5 games at UCD. So there’s that.

Once the Causeway concludes, the Hornets home attendance for the season won’t be far off from doubling UCD’s attendance.

So while our erector set stadium may suck — it’s still more useful and populated than your manure pile.

As you were.
