Championship Game

Honestly I wanted the Bears to win yesterday. I refused to cheer for either squad, karma, but I thought they deserved it more. Also, they brought their band, a lot of fans, and better looking cheerleaders. Oh well, I hope Northern Colorado gets invited to one of the many post-season tourny's that are springing up yearly.

Even though the Bears lose Figures, which will be an extremely difficult player to replace, they will be bringing back an experienced and talented team next season.

On to tonights game...
Keys to the game:
1. Don't let AJ shoot a lot of FTs, make him earn his points.
2. Shut down Staudacher and Selvig from 3pt range.
3. Get the ball inside.
4. Rebounding margin
5. Limiting AJ's and Cherry's ability to penetrate.

I couldn't agree more!! Montana's cheerleaders were shall we say HUGE!! I guess we see how Montana likes their women, you know, LARGE, with facial hair, and some with a hint of an adam's apple.
Anyways, I hope we kick the living crap out of Tinkle and his Grizz.
WSU's bigs are going to have to come up huge tonight. Our guards are better than the Griz guards, our bench is better, and we have the best Coach BY FAR. IF our big can hold their own than WSU will win!!!

You sure the AJ in your username doesn't stand for Anthony Johnson? 8-)

I'm not a Wildcat fan, but even I'm in utter shock after what transpired this evening. That was just painful to watch down the stretch.... heart goes out to all Weber nation tonight.

I'm thoroughly disgusted with the team's performance in the championship game. Apparently they thought they had it won at halftime. Granted, it's tough to anticipate the adjustments the losing team will make coming out of the half, but I've seen some key problems this year that plagued them in this game:

-Poor Shot Selection: What's with the 25-foot shots with 30-seconds left on the shot clock?

-Poor Free Throw Shooting: Montana knew how to defend Session. Just foul him. WSU hit 67% at the line. If you throw out Session's 12 free shots, WSU hits 81%!

-Poor Movement Under Pressure: In crunch time, there were three guys standing around the perimeter waiting for something to happen, and maybe one guy there for the rebound when Lillard's shot doesn't fall.

-Poor Inside Play: Okay, just poor Steve Panos. How did he score 29 against UNC?

It may sound sore, but this team is not good enough to win a game in the Big Dance--and I couldn't care about the NIT if I tried.

So, did this really happen? I was watching the Big 12 championships and it showed the halftime score of the Weber game. They were up by 20. So I was like...ok, they have this wrapped up because no decent team can lose a game when they're up 20 at the half. I just checked the score on ESPN.com and have only one question.

What the he11 happened?

I hate to say this, because I think Randy Rahe has done good things at Weber, but without seeing the game, I have to blame him. No decent coach should be able to blow a 20 point lead at home when there's a 35-second shot clock. You could effectively limit the other team's possessions to what...less than 20 in the second half, if everything went right. This is absolutely unacceptable. I know that guy for Montana score like 42 points, but that is also unacceptable. I'm going to be the first to say it. Fire Rahe. There is zero tolerance for this kind of thing happening, two years in a row, nonetheless.

I think you meant "you're," not "your." And I'm the dumb one. Maybe we should funnel some of the basketball money to the Weber State English department.

I watched the whole game and it was a tale of two halves. I thought UM needed a miracle to even have a chance... unfortunately they got one. Tough break for you guys, but like others are saying, there is no legitimate explanation for blowing a 20 point lead. The WSU poor shot selection and Sessions (sp?) FT shooting was the difference. Also I thought WSU took the foot off of the gas so to speak and leak UM crawl back into it. Unfortunately that gave them momentum and the rest is history.

As a non-WSU fan, it was an interesting and fun game to watch, specifically the second half. Better luck next year WSU fans.

From what it sounds like, there was poor shot selection throughout the second half and terrible clock management. I didn't see the game, so it's hard to comment, but I'm sticking with what I said before. When you have a 20-point lead, the head coach is strictly liable for maintaining that lead.

My prediction: Randy Rahe will be in a body cast tomorrow, because if he punched a basketball standard and broke his hand over some minor incident, something like tonight's loss should have him throwing himself in front of a train. Zero tolerance. Any true Weber fan would agree.

Yes, you would rather have Cravens. How many games did you make it to this year?

I think it's funny how when I used to bash Cravens during the year Weber had Jermaine Boyette and went to the tournament and played Wisconsin (2003?), people told me to shut up and defended the idiot. Now, those same people are the ones mocking Cravens. I'm truly ahead of my time. In three years, if Rahe stays at Weber, you'll all be saying what I'm saying now. I appreciate what he's done for the school, but tonight's loss was inexcusable. I think I can say that safely without having seen the game. If Weber was up by ten at the half, ok, that's not Rahe's fault. You can't sit on a ten-point lead when you have another 20 minutes to play. But with a 35-second shot-clock, being at home, and simply being the better team, losing a 20 point lead should be impossible for any competent team and coach. My younger brother could have coached Weber to a win tonight.

For the record, I attended three Weber games this year. I don't think that's too bad, considering I live almost 1,000 miles from Ogden.

I'll take Randy Rahe in a second. However, big-time schools looking to hire a coach should watch that game and realize there are still things he needs to learn. Throughout the second half of the season, I had the feeling the team was showing consistent improvement. In retrospect, they probably peaked around the time they beat Sac State and UNC. Then the pressure hit and the team didn't handle it particularly well.

Rahe's winning percentage is very respectable, but his post-season percentage leaves a lot of room for improvement. (I'd really like to see the actual figures if anyone has the time and resources.)

Now it's time to learn what it takes to win the big games, and I think he'll do that in time.

Ok, I've been reading over what I wrote last night. It's probably not a good idea to fire Rahe, but I think he (or someone) needs to own up to that loss. I read a quote from Hansen, I think, that said something like..."We had a hand in Johnson's face all night, and he was just feeling it." Johnson was not the issue. Johnson doesn't affect your ability to shoot good shots and use the clock. Anyway, I'm still pissed and I hope someone takes the blame, gets a few public lashes from a rattan cane by a martial arts master, and gets back to work.

Do de do de do de do de do.

Two down, one to go this Friday and Saturday. Oh, I guess there's no reason to have any coverage of the girls' bb playoffs around there, huh?

Say, could you please make sure this time that there's enough champagne on hand for the hoard of maroon that will be celebrating on October 30?
