Chris Ault retires at Nevada

Always kinda admired Ault. He was at Nevada since 1976 and was well-respected when the Pack were still members of the Big Sky.

Anyway, let the Baldwin rumors begin again! Actually, I kinda think they might want someone with experience running the pistol, but who knows. Just hope it isn't Baldwin.

Yah I was thinking the same thing when I read he was retiring. The article I read talked about Ault being unconventional and the first thought in my head was Baldwin and his play calling/system. I could see him going there, but again what chance does Nevada have of getting in the final 4 and winning a national championship? ZERO ZIP NADDA NONE WHATSOEVER!

So seriously I think Baldwin winning a National Championship while he is young might have been a blessing as he knows how special it is to win one. Who needs a New Mexico Bowl Trophy in their office? Who ever remembers those bowl games anyway.....People on really remember NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS!

BEAU NOWS EWU CHAMPIONSHIPS!!
Go EAGLES! :D

Yeah, but Nevada will likely pay $800k. That's probably 4x what Baldwin can earn at EWU. Loyalty is great, but the man has to look out for his family and their future.

That said, I don't think he's a great fit at Nevada... it would require a significant retooling to look like something Baldwin would operate. Plus, as much as I believe Baldwin would be a great choice for such a program, I think Nevada's donor pool thinks they need a bigger name.

Interesting that the local newspaper in Reno lists Baldwin a possible candidate(1 of ten) http://www.rgj.com/article/20130104/COL0301/301040010/Dan-Hinxman-10-candidates-who-could-become-Nevada-s-next-football-coach" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

This opening makes me a little nervous. Nevada's move to the Mountain West turns that into a nice little job. Nevada has always done pretty well in football. The new FBS playoff system helps as well. If it ever goes to an 8 team playoff the Mountain West will be a nice conference to be in...

Former EWU coach Tom Mason also on the list...

I truly believe that Baldwin won't go to Nevada. I believe Klenakis will be their guy if they want to keep the Pistol going.

Ditto, I think he as a coach is exactly the kind of fit Nevada would go for, but his offensive play style is not. I still think Baldwin win end up in the Pac-12 somewhere as a HC given the time. If he builds up enough of a resume as a HC here he will certainly become even more attractive even without having been an OC or whatever at that level.

I agree about him winding up in the Pac 12 some day, but I believe he'll make a stop in the Mountain West before that. Hopefully he doesn't follow Hauck at the coaching graveyard of UNLV.

I can easily see Baldwin go the the Pac 12 as an OC. He can make 6-700,000 at an upper tier Pac 12 team with the new contract Pac 12 got from the Network. He's called the plays since he arrived at EWU. Yes, Best is listed as the OC but Baldwin calls the plays and handles the offense. Then he could be prepped for a Head Coaching job at a BCS team. EWU has a rep for having high powered offenses and producing top of the line QB's.
