The Wolverines are coached by Dick Hunsaker, who graduated from Weber State in 1977 and was a later a WSU assistant coach. Hunsaker is in his 10th season as head coach at Utah Valley.

The Wildcats and Wolverines have met four times with the season series tied at 2-2. The two teams last met in December 2005. Weber State is 2-0 at home against UVU.

This is pathetic we have not played an instate Division I basketball program in 7 years. I dont care who is at fault or why. There is no valid excuse for no games. We are not BYU. There is no need for us to insult other schools. I have heard rumors it is UVU's fault but after nearly a decade...?

Although, initially, I thought an NIT game was a waste for Weber given their disappointing finish, this could work out really well for Dame if the Wildcats take this tournament seriously. A lot of teams could easily just throw in the towel and not work hard after a finish like that (i.e. Franklin Session at Cincinnati). But if WSU could make a run all the way to the championship on their home floor in this tourney, Dame could actually pass Bruce Collins on the all-time scoring list. He'd have to average 26.6 per game and WSU would have to go all the way, but with the level of competition in this tourney, it's not a far stretch of the imagination to think they could pull it off if they stay focused and not overlook anyone. :kisswink:

After the 2006 game Hunsaker vowed he would never play Weber again as long as he was still UVU's coach. Looks like he doesn't have a choice on this one. Haha.

that is true. 133 points to go. getting to the final game is 5 more games.

we have played 30 games so far. the school record is 34 games played in 1979 (25-9). also the school record for wins is 27. 1969 went 27-3.

It seems plausible. I wouldn't want to play my school either if I coached an opposing team.

This could really turn out to be a really competitive game, and a fun one at that, Dick is probably upset that he has to come back up to the Dee Events Center.

I think we actually got the better out of it than if we would have gone to the NIT, a first round home game (and maybe many more) is better than a first round road loss.

It could also give Damian a chance to regain 1st place in national scoring average (do they count postseason games?).

Utah Valley (20-12), which only became eligible for NCAA postseason play a few years ago, is jumping for joy at its first ever tournament bid, which tips off at 7 p.m. in the Dee Events Center.

"This marks a monumental day for our men’s basketball program and our athletic department as a whole," UVU athletics director Mike Jacobsen said. "To have an opportunity to play in the postseason is our goal, and for the first time we will get that chance. This is wonderful for our players and coaches, fans, students and university community."

For WSU coach Randy Rahe, he is confident that his team can overcome the disappointment of not going to the NIT.

"I trust my guys," he said. "They want to compete."

So do the WSU players even care about this game at all? If they look disinterested can i get my $10 back after the game? IF they decide they want to play they can win this whole damn tourney, but if not then well it will be summer break fr the team soon.

That's what I'm afraid of, but it really could go either way. They could just throw in the towel and say we're done. Or, they can try and use this as a way to end the season on some sort of positive note to get the sour taste out of their mouths. The same goes for Dame as an individual. He could take it easy and not risk hurting himself and his chances in the NBA draft, or he can take this tourney head on as a chance to actually overtake Bruce Collins as the all-time scoring leader at WSU. The Wildcats would have to go all the way to the championship game and he'd have to average about 27 points per game to pull it off, but it's certainly obtainable. I suppose we will see which version we get tomorrow night. :|

Weber got screwed by the NIT.

I hate our conference.

^^ This. Minnesota gets in the NIT and they were 6-12 in conference.. oh but they played in the "Big" 10... "Big" f'n deal.

Hope your team comes out pissed and wanting to prove that they belonged in a much bigger tournament.

Anyone know if this is going to be on BigSkyTV or streaming anywhere?

Potomac Griz, the game is listed on b2tv and it looks to be Free! Check us out, I am sure a lot of folks will be watching the Griz on Thursday (on TNT in the afternoon.)

Quote from Hunsaker from an article from Deseretnews

"So we're very excited and looking forward to the game. It's really nice for everyone that's around to have an instate game like this where friends and family can come and see the game. And it's always nice to go back to Ogden."

Why is it so nice to go back to Ogden if you vowed to never return while you were head coach :wtf:

Wildcat, Coach Hunsaker is a Wildcat. He has been since he first stepped onto our campus back in 74. He hates having to play his school. He should have been our head coach in 86, but the pride of the AD was too much to overcome. I've heard rumours that the AD/Administration wanted to get rid of anything and everything associated with McCarthy. I guess, we hate to much of a good thing. Thats why I laugh when people start attacking Rahe. What people, do you want to go back to Cravens, or worse, the Farmer years? If you are soo hard up for bad basketball, you can go watch the St. Joe womens' team.

I don't get why Weber honors an AD that virtually killed our basketball program. Not only did he hire the worst coach in school history over Hunsaker, but started a policy where fans had to pay for parking. DUMB DUMB DUMB.
