Wow how did idaho get a home game and we have to go on the road

Good question, but it does say that after the 1st round, the next game for the winners will be determined with whatever wizardry they use...meaning if a Wildcat win, could possibly be a home game in 2nd round.

Going be the teams record we should win.

$$$$$$$$$$$

They were willing to pay more than we were. It sounds like they already had something set up, as far as advertising and such. Sounds like they may have been planning this for a while.

Idaho must have some extra money in their athletic Dept. They sure don't have the attendance.

I'm sure we put a valid bid in. However, we wouldn't have had time to line up sponsors.

So Idaho had time to line up sponsors but Weber didn't? One planned ahead and the other didn't. Our sports dept should do better...

In fairness, didn't mention that the Weber St -- Cal Fullerton game is listed under a special 'Riley Wallace Classic' title, meaning that it may have been planned without the opponent for Fullerton picked yet..." the CIT introduces the (2-3 named classics listed), which will be played in the 1st Round".

Not that it means that much to ignorant me, sorry, but I don't know who that is...you experts may be able to understand it better. :coffee:

Idaho had almost two more days to plan for this tournament while Weber probably didn't even get invited till Sunday afternoon/ night. Doesn't sound like our sports department had much say in the matter.

OldRunner is correct.
In the 2013 CIT tourney, Weber had to PAY to have home court. (BTW< Air Force came in to the Dee in early rounds and got beat, said they would never play at Weber again...)

Cats went on the road in CIT for only one game, to Cedar Falls, IA to play Northern Iowa, won there and then came back home throughout the championship game.

The CBI and CIT are ways for teams to keep playing in post season, as long as they have the deep pockets to travel or to host the games.

Supposedly yesterday morning this looked like it was going to be a home game.

I don't like how this event has no set bracket and the $ determines match ups and home games.

It's the only way they can run it and remain solvent. I'm sure that they have a minimum bid amount. I'm also sure that the minimum bid does not land an opening round home game.

Not having the time to round up any corporate sponsors, we probably put in a minimum bid. Idaho either got lucky with a minimum bid or had some extra money laying around in the budget.

I would think that we would have a very good chance of getting a home game if we win at Fullerton.

On paper, we should win this game. However, we are all aware that anything can happen this time of year. At least we seem to have exited the little slump we were in a few weeks ago. :coffee:

Forbes ran a feature last year on the CIT:

Only teams that finish the regular season with a winning overall record are eligible to play in the CIT, and any team wanting to participate must be willing to host in either of the first two rounds - at a cost of $38,500.

In the 2015 CIT semifinals, Northern Arizona set a school attendance record with 5,583 fans; that is higher than 23 of the 28 home games played in the NIT. On average, the CIT championship game has drawn crowds comparable or significantly larger than the NIT Championship, which is played each year in Madison Square Garden (MSG). The 2013 NIT final between Iowa and Baylor drew 5,301 to MSG, whereas the Weber State vs. East Carolina matchup in the CIT championship drew a crowd of 10,583.

:thumb: You've been missed Heyoh!!

Absolutely right!! In 2013, Weber paid out a lot for the home games in the CIT. They were a lot of fun, but we ended up in the red from the experience. Great tournament, but it definitely wasn't a financial windfall for Weber State Athletics (with our marketing genius are any of you shocked?). Who knows who will get a second round game. There aren't a lot of western teams involved in the tournament. It'll be down to who wants to spend more to host between Idaho and Weber, if we both win.

CIT action last night

St. Francis beat Jacksonville 78-76

Campbell beat Houston Baptist 98-79

Samford beat Canisius 78-74

Tonight's games

Ball State @ Fort Wayne
Fairfield @ UMBC
Georgia State @ Texas A&M CC
Stephen F. Austin @ Idalol

I know Idaho doesn't have any extra money laying around because they recently went to the state board to ask for authority to spend $1 million a year in appropriated funds on athletics over the established limit for the next four years. The board told them to go back and come up with a plan to address the deficit. Maybe they hit up a sponsor or donor for some quick cash.

Well...bring on Fullerton! Weber will be facing CS Fullerton tonight in the Riley Wallace (he is the former HC at Hawaii) Classic. We haven't hit the hardwood against Fullerton since the Cheese Classic in Logan in 09. In that game, behind Damian Lillard's (he had 36 last night against the Spurs) 20 the Wildcats cruised to a 82-71 victory. Lindsey Hughey, Franklin Sessions, and Steve Panos each scored in double figures and Nick Hansen was 3-6 from long range. Jaques Streeter lead the titans with a game high 21. The titans were leading at halftime.

This season the titans are 17-14. However, they ended the season on a tear winning 9 of their last 12 (they lost to UC Davis twice during that span, a team Weber beat in November 86-58 in Alaska). The titans and Cats have two other common opponents Portland State and SUU. Weber beat PSU in Portland, it did take OT and Fullerton beat PSU in SOCAL, however, the Vikings did score 100 that night. SUU also lost in SOCAL by 12. Whereas Weber beat SUU twice once in Ogden and again in reNo. Tre Coggins is their leading scorer at 16 ppg and Khalil Ahmad and Jackson Rowe both are in double figures. However, Jackson Rowe has been out the past few games and is unlikely to play tonight. Lionheart Leslie and Kyle Allman make up the other starters for the titans. They shoot 3 alright, but mostly their offense is by driving to the hoop and hoping to get fouled. Their offense is very similar to Portland States. However, they are a bit better defensively, that is how they have won so many games as of late. They have been playing great defense. They pack the paint and hope that teams miss from outside. Weber is the best outside shooting team the titans will face this season. Good thing for Weber, we are an outside inside team this season. They have some bigs, but they aren't the greatest. Rowe is their best big and his has been sidelined with, I believe, a foot injury. To me, this is a very winnable game, however, so was Pepperdine. One never knows what is going to happen with Randy coaching on an opposing teams floor. Lets hope, if we get a big lead it is in the final 5 mins. So we don't slow down the offense with 9 or 8 to go trying to shorten the game.

Wednesday scores
