CIT Tournament 2017

Fans who can afford to go, enjoy! CIT Website shows somewhat confused schedule: Idaho @ Texas St. on Sunday @ 6pm then shows Weber St. @ Texas A&M Corpus Christi Monday (no time) but re-lists the Idaho game @ 6pm. Slight mistake, but assuming it's the Weber game time.

Last night enjoyed a short clip of the 2013 championship game that was on the website when I looked for the schedule that wasn't there for Monday, it was the Emmy nominated video of 'Anatomy of a Game Winner' featuring Eastern Carolina's coach & player...great college atmosphere at the DEE (still painful to watch that last second 3 pointer go in).

Today shows the pic of the Wildcat win at Fullerton, says Kendall Hill was the MVP of the classic.

Corpus Christi shows a fine record, beat Georgia St. by 16 in 1st Round, could be a tough test at their home. GO GET A WIN WILDCATS!!!

ESPN shows them as 14-1 at home. So we have our work cut out for us.

Still amazed at 25 of 27 FTs. I'm assuming that's a team record. The rest of our game was so bad -- we'll have to be a lot better to get this one.

What was with Cody John getting DNP? Anyone know why he didn't play?

Harding and Cannon are playing better right now... also depends on match-ups and foul trouble.

He played 3 minutes, but had no stats to show for it. 0-fer. :coffee:

SECOND ROUND

SATURDAY, MARCH 18
UMBC 87, Saint Francis 79

MONDAY, MARCH 20
UT Martin (22-12) @ Campbell (18-17) 7:00 pm
Samford (20-15) @ Liberty (20-13) 7:05 pm
Weber State (20-13) @ Texas A&M Corpus Christi (21-11) 8:00 pm

WEDNESDAY, MARCH 22
Idaho (19-13) @ Texas State (21-13) 8:00 pm

(Top 3 seeds: Fort Wayne, Furman (22-11) and Saint Peter's (20-13) receive a bye to the quarterfinals)

Though I was pretty sure of myself last time, I'm even more confident this time that if both Weber and Idaho win they will be facing each other in the Qtrs.

Article in this morning's Standard about folks battling injuries and illnesses.

"Weber State men's basketball’s game Monday night against Texas A&M Corpus Christi is going to be a significant challenge the Wildcats in and of itself, but a slew of injuries will make it even more so.

In their first round win in the CollegeInsider.com Tournament over Cal State Fullerton, senior guard Jeremy Senglin was playing through bronchitis, senior forward Kyndahl Hill hyperextended his knee, sophomore center Zach Braxton pulled his groin, and freshman guard Jerrick Harding aggravated a hip pointer injury.

All four players are in the starting lineup for the Wildcats.

According to WSU head coach Randy Rahe, Senglin is feeling better and could be fully recovered by game time.

While Rahe wasn’t optimistic about Hill being able to practice Sunday, the senior forward will be a game-time decision Monday.

Braxton and Harding are both experiencing soreness, but are expected to play."

Some solid play by Hill & Braxton helped close that lead. Clean up the passing and play solid D and they should have a chance. Down 35-36 at half.

To be honest, I am kinda glad the season is over. The team just didn't have enough talent to compete with better teams. That was glaringly obvious tonight. CC had a plethora of smallish, athletic and quick players and our second team guys were revealed as too slow and unathletic to compete. Additionally, Braxton is just not quick enough to stay with a player like Thomas. He was really schooled tonight. Just more evidence of the things I have been saying about this team for most of the year. They just can't compete with a quick and athletic team.

Cannon will never be a player who can make a difference. He just doesn't have the quicks to do it. I suppose Rahe will keep him and he can fill in against lesser teams and give starters a few minutes rest. But against better competition he will remain on the bench.

Cody John played his heart out and it is sad to see him relegated to the end of the bench. But to be fair, he earned it. He is another one who just doesn't have the quicks and athleticism to compete against better players. He will probably stay with the team and become a minimal spot player. I think Rahe likes him and won't "counsel him out". Hope I am wrong about that.

Baker is only a notch better than Cannon and John. He will play in selected spots in the future when the other team doesn't play an athletic guy at the 3 and when he can create a mismatch for a few minutes at the 4. But, lets be honest about him; he is a major defensive liability at both of these positions, especially at the 4. So to get more than a few minutes he is going to have to have the right matchup or just be insanely hot in a game and earn a few more minutes because of that.

Dallas has never had "it". He will never have it. I think if Rahe is smart he "counsels him out" immediately.

We know already that all the other benchers and redshirts, with the exception of Chapman will never amount to anything. They should be moved on also...
And that is our bench... people that we hoped would develop, but they didn't because they don't have the natural ability to ever be able to make a difference for a Division 1 basketball program. As I always was fond of saying "you just can't make chicken salad out of chicken shit"! And I know that to be true because I tried hard and often and failed. Rahe cannot do it either and he needs to realize that he has missed the boat on these players and go try to find better ones.

I think our only salvation next year will come if the incoming guys are really something special and can be big-time players as freshman. I sure hope and pray that we have more talent next year than we know about right now. Otherwise, I think Chapman is gonna think that he made a big mistake coming to Weber. Harding, Richardson and Braxton will be better next year. We need at least 5 make-a-difference newcomers to put with them if we expect to have a great year.

And by the way, I personally don' think that a 20-14 record is an "impressive season" Tal! Especially when 3 of those victories came from high school level opposition. We were just average in one of the least impressive conferences in the nation. That's not impressive to me... Sorry, but I's calls it likes I sees it!

I am praying for some serious changes from Rahe and a real shake-up in the program.

I believe that the shake up has already begun with the recruiting class as it stands. It may not be over yet as well.

Also, I have noticed that our coaches install something new every year. Sometimes those things are subtle, but there are new things added each and every year. I expect that there will be new approaches applied next year.

I am optimistic that Randy and crew will get this done. We will be better next year. :thumb: :thumb:

It's goes to show you the grit that these kids played with last night, to only lose on the road by 9 to a far more athletic and fast team while fighting injuries and illnesses.

And thus our season ends, overall it wasn't a terrible season but it could have been better. We may have had some bad losses along the way but we did beat USU in Logan which always makes me happy.

We have some things to improve on next year and I am confident that Rahe and Co will be up to the challenge.

That may well be true but you don't have to have the quickest or most athletic players to have a good team and be successful. Some zone could offset shortcomings in quickness. I would love to see Rahe adapt more to his players strengths or weaknesses for that matter.

Chapman didn't transfer to Weber because of better players, conference consideration, etc. It was a better place for him and his family at this point in his life, not to mention it's familiar since he grew up in Weber's backyard. It won't take a special team or teammates for Brekkott to be successful at WSU or achieve what I assume his goal would be to play professionally. I want Weber to have the best players possible as I'm sure does Chapman but knowing a little of him first hand and observing him on the bench this season, I'm certain he supports his team thick and thin.

Continually chasing "better" players doesn't seem to be too successful of an approach. Instead, why not take your best shot recruiting and then make the necessary adjustments to get the most out of them? Maybe a little zone now and then and demanding effort and improvement with basic skills would be all that's needed. Maybe having an inside and outside game would be better suited to some of the players mentioned. Having a legit inside game would change the thinking that we need 3-4 Senglins playing 25' from the basket. Last night was all about 2 players: a legit inside threat (Thomas) and a legit guard (Amin), the other 3-- yes, only 5 players were of any significance-- were great compliments to a balanced combo attack.
