Closed Scrimmage

Carvacho is a 6-11 PF who is a red shirt freshman. CSU, under Eustachy has been pretty tough at their place. Not to shocking that the Cats would lose, but the result is slightly concerning. I wish a box were available. However, the nature of these scrimmages I'm somewhat taken back that someone would twitter the results. They are supposed to be ultra secret!

Something has changed the last few years with the triple S (Super Secret Scrimmage). Teams now announce that it is happening and release box scores.

One of the reasons that coaches like these things is that it is not supposed to be a win/lose situation and it is not supposed to be reported on at all. CSU, obviously does not believe in NCAA regulations. It's not surprising. With no incentive to win, coaches are supposed to have a chance to try all kinds of rotations and put all players in situations for a more in depth look into their team. Scores are not supposed to mean anything. When it gets reported, now these teams and coaches get judged. That was not to be the purpose. CSU is throwing the NCAA's rule book right back in their face. I think that shows just what kind of program they are. :coffee:

If that is true, then why do it?

Open it up to the public. Pick a charity and give the proceeds to that charity. I've seen some other schools do that. Why not? You could get some big name schools to participate and it wouldn't count on their record. It could be a great way to kick off the season. :coffee:

The guy tweeting wouldn't have known unless someone from CSU talked. Eustachy...need I say more?

I agree with you Olds. This type of event gives the coaching staff a chance to see guys play a number of different rotations. Randy probably was changing up rotations every 5-10 mins and had guys playing out of position to see what type of potential there is for them picking up other roles. No matter, I am still concerned by the result. It tells me two things. 1. We struggled on offense and 2. We struggled defensively; especially against a big man. That is suppose to be our strength this season being able to shut down the middle and control the glass.

I Don't think a WSU guy would be bragging about the scoring of a CSU player.

Well the tweet was by a reporter from USA Today who covers college basketball so who knows where he got the info. But these are hardly threats to national security.

Nor is Addidas paying $150,000 to families of 5 star guys to get them to sign at the school they are directed to. :coffee:

Come on Bengal. You are a lot smarter than this. Please review his twitter handle. MW is mentioned right away.

Regardless, I would love to see a box score of this.

To clarify some things here, the NCAA has loosened restrictions on practice scrimmages in the recent past. They still must be conducted in private, but our coaches and student-athletes are able to talk about the results after the scrimmage has concluded. Stats can be shared as well if the coaches choose to do that.

So BYU played an open scrimmage at New Mexico with the proceeds going to the Houston relief effort. It looks like there is some leeway with these scrimmages now. If only Nick Emery hadn't gone on all those trips with the booster that is double his age. BYU might have a long year without Emery (If he gets ruled ineligible).
