Three Minutes With Nigel Burton

New Portland State Football Coach Nigel Burton has had to hit the ground running in his first two days on the job at Portland State. Burton is working on putting together his staff, meeting his players and boosters, and diving into the recruiting process for Portland State.

On Wednesday night at Portland State's men's basketball win over Linfield at the Stott Center, Burton stopped in to speak with radio play-by-play broadcaster Tom Hewitt. Following a brief power outage at press row, Burton gave Hewitt three minutes of his time. To hear the interview, click on the audio link.

Thanks for the link. :D

I'm liking what coach Burton is doing here. Everyone knows how people respond differently to criticism, but not everyone can inject correction tactfully. Burton is believable and been on the other side probably his whole life. Turning the kids into something else on the football field is the trick. Make nice with everyone and be the model student, but be a beast on the field!

Good stuff.

Nice to see the grassroots generation of 250k for this project.

I am getting to believe that Torre & the Selection Committee deserve a mountain of credit for the hiring of Coach Burton. The article revealed here that changing the team culture was the greatest foundational step to re-establishing the Viking program as winners. With Coach B, I think it highly possible that the Viks could experience a quantum leap of growth to establish themselves as dominate within the league. So much so, in fact, that the conference will ask us to leave and go to a higher level conference as we no longer fit there among them anymore.

At that time, I want us to leapfrog the WAC and go into the MWC. The WAC is a mess and I bet big sky teams could handle most, if not all, competition from the WAC, especially the WAC of next year. How dominate the Viks become will determine how realistically attractive Viking football will become to the MWC.

Retaining Coach Burton to get us there.

Burton: Vikings are ready to compete

The Portland State football program is slowly gaining traction. Vikings football coach Nigel Burton comes on the BFT to talk football. In his second season as head coach, coach Burton is optimistic about the Vikings prospects.

Nigel Burton talks about how the Portland State Vikings are coming together. He gives his take on how successful the Vikings can be this season. He comments on how fans are reacting to the Vikings increasing success. Nigel then discusses drug uses among college football players and how he handles it at Portland State.
