Coach O'Briens Future?????

Like the Journal said, next season we'll have 10 seniors on the team, which isn't the best scenario to be in. So when you consider we just lose two seniors this season, I'm thinking that O'Brien will either go after a couple high school seniors, who would redshirt a year and have time to mature. Or possibly one or two D1 transfers, who would have to sit out a year anyway, and would be able to contribute a couple years from now. In the past several years or so, Portland State has relied heavily on D1 transfers for help, and there's no reason we can't try to get some of them as well. I seriously doubt that he'll go after JC transfers, because their chances of playing next season could be pretty slim -- unless they had a redshirt year to burn here.

The recruiting is done for next year -- Eric Segert, a high school guard who averaged 10 points a game this past season at Oldmar Christian in Florida; and Rolando Little, a 6-9 JC transfer from Memphis who is paying his own way to school this year while he tries to get academically eligible. There is the possibility of getting a JC guard if Little can't get eligible, or if OB can convince him to walk on for a year.

Next year's team should be pretty sound. It looks like they have the makings of a championship team. BUt it seems like all the eggs are in the basket. I didn't realize that there will be 9 seniors next year. That is a tough spot to be in.

Just some additional information...Coach O'Brien left Monday to attend the National Jr. College Tournament in Kansas. I think it's worth noting that J-C players don't have to wait until after their sophomore years to transfer, as long as they're academically eligible. I have no inside information at all, but I also don't think that just because a player was on our team this year that he will necessarily be here next season (i.e., Kal Bay and maybe others). There could well be some other players transferring elsewhere. Again, no inside information here...just holding out the possibility.

I believe you are right about more possible transfers and I don't think that it will be such a bad thing at all. I do hope that Caspari stays as I do know that he and Kal were very good friends. My next concern would be for Austin Kilpatrick, but I really think that Austin's role increased a ton at the end of the year. I would be a bit surprised to see him go.

ISU can afford to see a few kids go. In fact it might be a very good think considering the amount of senior players and the amount playing time that is available.

Shouldn't we have heard something by now? Maybe i just missed it? In my opinion each day that goes by is just another day not really committed to the program on both sides? Anyone
