Rumor has it that Zach Shay is out as defensive coordinator. Can Troy or anyone else officially say yes or no?

I thought Boyer would be the one out. The offense was so bad this season.

Just the offense ?? The defensive backfield was atrocious ! And need we talk about the special teams play !! :wall:

I have heard it from a couple of different sources close to the program that he is no longer with the team.

I thought the defense and the special teams were the areas with big problems this year. The defense gave up a touchdown at the end of the 1st half almost every game. Never appeared to make any halftime adjustments. Defensive backfield was atrocious.

The right move would be for Collins to be dismissed, but Shay being dismissed is the next best thing IMHO.

Doesn't surprise me. There were a few times I watched where the other team pretty much just walk themselves into the endzone.

The more that leave the better, players included at this point. We need a complete cultural overhall.

Here we sit broken hearted....tried to (you know the rest)
I too have heard mr shay has been dismissed. The frustration that is (has been ) evident seems to be coming to yet another crescendo. This as NDSU scores against Coastal Carolina in a packed house in Fargo.
I hate to sound like a broken record, but Playerparent has more credibility than he has been afforded. Blofeld....the culture is broken. The players who we have recruited are solid, just like any other team. They can be generally counted on to give their best effort for themselves and their teammates. I am not able to measure effort. I don't believe that players do not play for their coaches......way too much work for that. Effective coaches are able to "get the most" from the players they impact, but that's it!
I have posted before that the only difference between mr collins and our previous Coach is that players respected Coach Downing. Yes coming so close so often with the previous regime got frustrating....real frustrating. Thank heavens the crumby seniors that Downing recruited were gone last year (oh, wait, that was our most successful season in quite a few years). I believe that the culture that we need to address is one that is very obvious to players......take a moment to check out the foundation blocks of Coach Wooden's Pyramid of success. I get that he was a basketball Coach, but his principles of success are universal. Our current head coach has not developed the relationships with his team that are deep enough to have any impact. Let's face it, threatening kids that YOU brought here with scholarship reductions, threatening with playing time and ultimatums, not following through with commitments, etc. is no way to inspire relationships, loyalty or trust. It really sounds like a bad high school coach's behavior. Interestingly, I have heard from some of our players have been grateful yet dubious for some of his actions. I don't believe that our current head coach intentionally put himself or our players in the position they are in (who would do that?), he just was not ready for this job, and is rolled so far under the stone that he can't get out. I have mentioned in previous posts that I have some real questions about integrity....I continue to have those concerns.
Please don't fire back with "what are your sources" or "where is the proof". You can choose to buy my thoughts or not. Factual information will follow.
This post is not intended to "piss anybody off", rather, it's an opportunity provide perspective.
I will continue to support our program and players. This is a GREAT UNIVERSITY!
By the way, NDSU is up 24-0 in the 2nd quarter (it's killing me)

Doesn't look like a popular change according to players on twitter. Bumpas tweets some about the program being in shambles and then firing the only successful coordinator. Then Quentin Hikdreth says the coaches can suck his....

What a freaking mess. :ohno: :ohno:

Wow. I am kind of mixed on all of this. Our players seem entitled, if they wanted him to stay they should have played better. On the flip side, maybe it wasn't the DC and was the HC that was a barrier to success. Who the hell knows.
"Shambles" seems to be the correct word.

Possibly, and they have the right to express their opinions. However, the defense was less than stellar this season; can they be really that surprised?

Oh and I agree that they seem entitled. Twitter has ruined and opened up the sports world, all at the same time. For example, Jace Davis's twitter profile pic has and and Quinten Hildreth flipping off the camera like a bunch of gang bangers. Fine representation of UNC. :ohno: :ohno:

I also looked at some twitter profiles of NDSU players. They bleed for their team and represent their school with pride. They're not perfect and they're college kids too, but I doubt you will see someone like Will Jefferson on NDSU, just bashing their college city (in the case of Will, it's Greeley and Colorado in general) and their program. We need to start recruiting kids that are not as self-centered, kids that won't give up on their coaches, etc. That will be more difficult as the younger generations become more and more narcissistic, but I hold to the truth that there are good, humble athletes that would give a kidney to play college football for a school like UNC. Okay...enough of the rant.... :D

The players have to win a game before they can complain, they are lucky to have scholarships at this point.

They should be tweeting about how lucky they are to have free room and board after shiting the bed all season and if it's so bad here hit the bricks we can lose every game with or without Bumpas.

Ok Beardown said it much better than me but I think we mean the same thing I'm just way too blunt for most.

If you're on scholarship and want to bitch and moan GTFO we don't need you, you lose, you suck.

Yes, yes, and yes!
The big difference, is when a group is in chaos, there is really nobody with their wits about them steering the ship, it becomes every man for himself. That's what we have.
No self respecting player wants to look bad individually. That's the result of a me culture, not a we culture. Having seen and heard too much over the past couple of years, that's what has developed. Real leadership would be seen if players bad mouthed the school they chose to attend, and players stood up & told them to knock it off.....that's not the BEAR way of doing things. I haven't seen players step up with that mentality on the field or off.
It's true.....we have run a muck. I think that's the result of a staff that puts too much emphasis on "can I Trust You" type of statements that these guys started with. Again, kids are not motivated by that type of controlling coach-speak. I am not sure which has been a lower point......when we had one player stab another, or when the kids are making use of electronic media to stab at the coaches, program, etc..
Leadership starts at the top and sets the direction for the program. We are a ship without a captain.
It is sad.

Did Shay resign or was he fired? The Tribune yesterday says that he resigned.

Yeah, I call BS on the resignation article.

"Shay, who had been the Bears’ defensive coordinator since 2011, informed head coach Earnest Collins Jr. he would not be returning next season in order to pursue other opportunities"

Other opportunities? Like what, McDonald's drive through attendant?

I'm sure that other opportunity is the N. Dakota job. You know ND is probably like yeah, we fired our coach because we have standards so let's go hire a coordinator from the worst team in D1.

Mustari's article in the Tribune today hinted that no other changes are expected for the staff. Noted that the JC QB we were after committed to an FBS school and we're one of the schools that Chad Jeffries is looking to transfer to.

It's disappointing to hear that no further changes are planned and I'm not surprised to find out that the rumors of Jeffries committing were just that, rumors. Of course the majority of us can continue to hold out hope that bigger changes are coming. I know it is at the top of my Christmas list.

Knipp would be a nice pick up. Saw him attending the last game of the season with a Ralston Valley teammate. Of course that trip probably didn't leave a positive lasting impression.

I'm not optimistic about next, no changes, no reason to expect anything but the same.

I'm blaming the new AD already. That's a joke...

What? He hasn't even started at UNC. Give him a chance. Legally I doubt he can do much right now anyways. When he starts in Jan he can assess the situation and make his decisions. Until then try to give him some support. :ohno: :ohno:

True, he hasn't officially started yet, but if what he said in his press conference and interviews is true, he is already spending a lot of hours working on UNC business after he finishes his day at UH. I would hope he is spending a good chunk of that time evaluating all of the athletics programs. If he is waiting until he officially starts in January then there is a serious problem.
