Coaching Search

Be careful what you wish for in Kramer. Idaho almost hired him as HC and backed off when several of his players were arrested. An assistant coach at MSU under his watch went to prison for selling meth to high school kids. He is still litigating his firing at MSU. If you want a coordinator who has been a head coach what Steve Axman at UofI former NAU head coach or Tim Walsh the HC and Cal Poly SLO.

Now that Cal Poly will compete in the Big Sky, Tim Walsh won't make a lateral move. Especially when it means leaving the fertile recruiting grounds of California. Steve Axman has a reputation of being a jerk to reporters, not to mention other schools. He's not what ISU needs. He also went from a coordinator position in the Pac-10 to a positions coach in the Big Sky to a coordinators position at Idaho. Odd path.

Ironically enough, Joe O'Brien is the name of the former assistant under Kramer who got into trouble. The guy served his time, and he now travels and tells his story to kids all over. He played football at Boise State, and he said he regularly used meth during his playing days in Boise. His father died of a heroin overdose when Joe was still in high school. Point being, this guy's problems began long before Kramer.

Kramer did have APR problems at MSU, and that is a concern, because they lost scholarships and practice time too. That was also near the beginning of when APR came into play, so it could have proved to be a learning experience.

I got a good name to throw out there: Lance Anderson. He was raised in Minico and started coaching at ISU in 1997-98, but went down the road with Walsh. He is a good man and has ties to the area and he was also the one that recruited Taysom Hill from Highland. He is one of the head recruiters for Stanford and would have ties to get better California talent than the Div. II prospects Zamberlin has got the last few years.

What about former D-1 coaches like Chris Tormey or Jeff Tisdel. Both were head coaches. Tormey at Idaho and Nevada and Tisdel at Nevada. I think Tisdel is a California JUCO coach now. Both have won Bowl games.
