Saw this on youtube, some nice highlights of McCarthy from the Idaho 4A State Championship game. Watch 1:38 of him in as a fullback. This kid is a football player, I honestly think he will play next year.

Nice! Thanks for posting. He may have the ability to play at this level without red shirting but let's hope he doesn't have to ... I think it benefits the kid and the program when they have a year to mature and get their bearings at school before they start playing. It also gives the program depth to have those 5 year players.

Yep, I definitely see your point, and generally I agree. But I also think McCarthy might be one of those players that you just need to get onto the field as soon as possible. Sure, most kids benefit from having that RS year, and it does take time to adjust to playing Division I football. But let's not forget that we had a few True Freshman playing this year, and we had a pretty darn good team. ;)

A lot of players do need that RS year to develop. I'm not sure McCarthy does - he is that good. I am sure the coaches are looking at our depth at LB and carefully considering whether or not they need to burn his RS. Personally, I think they will, and if you look at any of his interviews during the recruiting process he does mention the fact that he wanted to go to a successful program where he could make an immediate impact. That makes me think that he may have been told that he could compete for a starting spot coming into fall camp. He probably won't beat Washburn out at the starting MLB position, but let's not forget he could play a few different positions. Although we don't run a ton of two-back sets, he could come in and play FB in the jumbo-set. Perhaps Bronson will be our short-yardage back this season, but this is another area where McCarthy could contribute right off the bat.

Also, we are not massively deep at LB. With Sherrit graduating, I'd expect Johnson to transition over to the strong-side LB spot. Grant Williams could start at weak-side maybe, but other than Washburn and Johnson, none of the back-ups from this season have a ton of game experience as all three starting LB's from the NC team were healthy all season.

I think he'll play as a True Freshman and get some decent reps as a back-up to Washburn, but that's just my opinion. Even if he doesn't, I'm damn excited about us getting this kid. He has awesome ability and from all accounts has a damn good work ethic. He's an awesome fit for our program. :thumb:

I sure hope the kid is a player, but I cannot get excited by his youtube video. I did not see one kid of color on either team. When that occurs I will let you know how fluid the kid truely is. When playing with or against kids of color the speed of the games changes. Time will tell if he's ready or not.

Vetteman ! What the hell is that supposed to mean ? If he hasn't played against some black kids his skills are some how diminished ? What world are you in ? Mya be you outta check out Dukes "white guys" and then tell me if they're any good or not ! What a MORONIC statement ! GOEAGS

Merril Hoge and John Friesz. Oh, and I hope Taiwan's asian heritage doesn't hurt him in the NFL.

flyingnail,
Great entry on vetterman. :notworthy: BTW I got a PM from Mark, he will try to make the Dinner/Dance. He was on his way overseas. Hope you and the wife can make it. Check with Evan parents, to inquire if they will be coming. Should they come we will have our table filled.

I will pay the $500.00 for the table, and settle before the drinkers start drinking. :) The tickets are not printed as yet, checked on them today. Have a great day. Vic p.s. I met the new FB Coach today, Josh, forgot his last name. New hire, that we lost during the NCAA Violations. Vic

LBCoach,
Welcome to the the "Blog Of The Year" As you can see, we have great personnel on the site. However, at times some of us have to be put in place for some of the things we say here. :thumb: I really enjoy looking at the tape of the Camp, how Coach Tuivai spoke of how important education is in life. Again welcome. :thumb:  Vic Wallace

Yes Really, I know you all have been up in the Northwest for a long time but this is a accurate statement. I know of 3-4 D1a coaches who would not think of signing a kid if he had not had the opportunity to play against kids of Color. All statements regarding color is not racist. Maybe some of you should climb out of the backwoods.

Certainly looking at the kid play in the 4A Idaho state championship is not indictive of what he will be facing at the D1aa level. I stand by my statement that there was not a kid of color on the field, but yet I have not attended a College game where this occurs!!!!!

Maybe you should also go check Duke's roster before you make untrue statements. Out of the 13 kids listed on the roster there are 7 Africian American Kids and their 1st team all everything and MVP of the ACC is Black (Nolan Smith). Was not trying to turn this into a racist post just wanted to state some facts.

Careful Vetteman. You're very close to getting a temporary vacation from here. I hate to ban an eagle, but we will not tolerate racist statements on here. I know you don't think your statements are racist, but it's pretty clear that most of us do. Please tone it down.

If you want to ban me for talking about race, so be it. Here is another fact to consider when speaking of race. 29 of the 32 first rounders in last years NFL Draft were Black or Pacific Islanders. So yes when judging players most knowledgeable fans or coaches will judge you while you play against people of color. You may not like to hear facts, but that is what they are. Have a nice day

Whether right or wrong, everyone on here is entitled to their opinion and free speech, as long as they are not harassing or demeaning others because of race, gender or age. Feel free to speak your mind; if you disagree with someone, let them know (in a civil manner) by either sending them a private message or posting in the forum. There's no need for bannings, except for spammers and the rare occasion where an individual ceases to cool down. :twocents:

This thread has been Hijacked...time to get back on point. I agree that Cody has the makings to be good one, regardless of who he played against in High School. Time will tell, but he sure looks like he has the makings of a great Eagle and I can't wait to see him on the field, this year or next year, whenever that may be.
