I saw this on another site. It's pretty cool because it's easy to find and use. You can compare our total revenue and expenses from all sports. It's all itemized into things like ticket sales, direct institutional support, student fee, donor support. I compared UNC to some of the other Big Sky schools and of course Montana comes out on top with ticket sales, etc. However, we do compare favorably with other schools. All I can say is thank god for student fees, because we would be in big trouble if we didn't have a lot. Ticket sales certainly need to improve, just 3% or so for our revenue. Here's the website. Empty your pockets! Buy season tickets!!

Also, take a look at how bad our contributions have been down since Jay took over AD. In 2004-05 they were 15% of our revenue. Now, it's 9%. Still bigger then some Big Sky schools though. Also take a look at some of the student fees for our future Big Sky schools like Cal Poly and UC Davis. Over 6 million? How does a student afford to go to school there?

Great find Beardown, but I question some of the numbers. For instance it shows over $500,000 in camp revenue for UNC. To my knowledge, UNC did not have a football camp at least. Could it be that camps in women's basketball and volleyball etc. brought in that much revenue?

Yea, great info and am happy to find we are not at the bottom but have a ton of room for improvement in ticket sales and contributions. I know the volleyball camp is huge in the summer and must bring in a lot of money. Lets help Blue and Gold grow!!

Other things that stick out to me: Our marketing campaign needs more. We don't even use 1% of our expense budget. And these numbers are from 09-10 and of course doesn't include our rise in attendance in basketball. I do believe we averaged a bit more in football this year too. If we can get more student fees and donations we will be fine. I know lots of people frown on student fees, but comparably UNC is pretty low.

Looks like Montana barely makes any money.
Montana Operating Revenue: $16,861,194
Montana Operating Expenses: $16,818,678

I'm not sure athletic departments are really supposed to make a profit. I know we barely do. It would be interesting to see ticket sales from this year for us. We had more people at football and b-ball games.
