Competition is nervous

GOEAGS!

Man, my thought exactly. People have been getting a little testy around here.

Let's leave it at this: our defense didn't play very well. We all expect them to get better, because the talent is there. Time to get ready for Montana State!

Ooooh, sensipoo... Do you still think they kicked three onside kicks in the second half or was that just an exaggeration on your part to make it sound like the sky is falling?

Have you considered the time it takes to integrate true freshmen, redshirt freshmen, and sophomores into the defensive scheme? Did you even realize how many are playing? Did you take note that in the second game against the NAIA opponent, the D played a TON of freshmen and rested most of our experienced players? Did you know that our third opponent, the UW, plays up a division and has 23 more full scholarships to hand out and has about $15 million more in the their football budget than EWU, which allows them to have the best in facilities, the best in nutrition and training, and the highest end of coaching available which attracts the elite athletes and is why they're in one of the five Power Conferences?

Our offense is loaded with experienced players. Our defense isn't. Our offense should be putting up tons of points. Our defense should be having some growing pains. Let the O cover the D for a bit. Give the D a little time to figure it out before you crap your pants.

I never knew any of those things about scholarships, facilities, experience, PAC 12 vs Big Sky, etc. Now it all makes perfect sense why the defense seemed porous to the uneducated. We are in a great position! I just didn't know what I was seeing, but now I have been instructed about my ignorance.

It is so early in the season. This has been a huge roller coaster ride for the team. Quality FCS opponent, NAIA team and then a Pac12 team taken to the wire at their house. Like I said in another thread, this team is talented. I watched the fall scrimmages and there is a ton on young, athletic talent. I think the defense will steadily improve and with this offense we are home for the playoffs. I don't think any other BSC team is close.

I do think we need more speed rush on the ends. Ebukam will supply part of that but we miss Evan Day. I sure hope he can return. We have a great core of young defensive players.

I know it and you know it, this team is in a class by itself but I hope the team does not start thinking it. That will lead to a big upset we don't need.

Agreed. What really sticks out to me is the amount of true Freshman playing on Defense (5). They're young, but you figure that group could provide the foundation for a really tough group over the next few years. Although he's going to need to add some weight, I was pretty impressed with Saugen in the UW game.
