Plan on attending tonight's game and giving my observation later. Go Viks!

Viking Men Host Concordia In Friday Exhibition Game

If there is such a thing as an embarrassing win, last night was it. Concordia does have about 8 JC transfers, so they are not your NAIA team filled with local players. However, PSU's defense was horrible and the Viks should have won a team like this by at least 20 points.

Vikings Rally Late, Hold Off Concordia, 96-93

For whatever reasons Gary Winston and Marcus Hall did not play. Cataldo played 3 minutes. As for the new players: Dre Winston, Jr. is a player and I wouldn't be surprised will be the scoring leader this year. Lamont Prosser is a big thick kid (which PSU usually doesn't have) so hopefully he can be the banger for this team. Doesn't seem to have much bounce in his game, so I don't think he will have big stats. Aaron Moore did not have a very good game, but I see potential in him. A type of player that is versatile and will get better as the season goes. Coach Geving better get this team to play some sound defense or this could be a disappointing season.

Any time the opposing team scores +90 your defense is not just suspect, it's horrible. And Geving was talking about defense being better this year?!They had two players that were better than anything we had. 30 points! I can't believe no one was assigned to that guy. It's goinhg to be a long pre-conference. Way too many fouls.

The women looked better.Of the freshmen Easom looked ready to start. Krug wasn't bad as a freshman. Misa, the junior transfer, looked rusty but good at rebounding. But she'd better practice her free throws. Kate Lanz didn't play?

The funny thing is: Dre Winston wasn't even playing last year. He never suited up.

But yes, I was pulling my hair out last night as well. Horrible play by our guys. We were settling for jump shots a lot, and we were getting lax on the defensive glass. You can't do that.

Didn't Dre Winston have to sit out last year because he transferred over from Wash. State? Yeah, he looked good, and I agree, he may be the leading scorer this year.

Any time the opposing team scores +90 your defense is not just suspect, it's horrible.

What do you call it when the opposing team that scores +90 is a NAIA divsion II program?

I guess they have a week to figure it out before they need to go down to Eugene.

The sky is falling! The sky is falling!
I think the rumors of the Vikings demise may be premature. Concordia had two players have the best night of their careers. Clearly, there are some defensive questions, but any coach will tell you that when two guys go off like that (Ligon made several RIDICULOUS shots and Herman was 11-13) all you can do is hunker down and hope for the win. If every 4 and every awkward shooter starts doing this, let's put the red flag up. Until then ...
On the positive, Dre Winston was easily the quickest Viking since Jeremiah and Renado is going to be real good.

I agree that a couple of Concordia's players were playing above and beyond, there was some serious lapses in defensive fundamentals.

It's either a) the game is an exhibition and that's that. Or b) we have serious issues.

After watching the game on Friday, I'm not sure where we're at. Hell, look at 2007-2008. We damn near lost at home (Rose Garden due to the almighty Stott Center flooding) to Lewis and Clark, yet we ended up going playing Kansas in March (no, I'm not saying that this is a ncaa tourney team).

Friday should show us some, but not a lot. The 11.25 - 12.01 road gauntlet should write the first couple of chapters to the 2012-13 book.
