Conference Play Starts, IDAHO STATE

WSU vs ISU

PG Lillard JR.(25.4ppg) vs Morgan JR.(12.1ppg) unfortunately for ISU this isn't the same Morgan that they have had the last 5 years or so. Advantage=WSUin a BIG way.

SG J-Rich soph.(6.0ppg) vs McGowen Sr. (10.8ppg) advantage=ISU

G Bamforth Jr. (14.0)ppg vs Grabau Sr. (10.2ppg) advantage=WSU

F Mahoney Sr. (3.5ppg & 5.1rpg) vs Moreira Sr. (5.7ppg & 7.1rpg) advantage=PUSH this will be a great match up to watch on the battle of the boards.

C Tresnak Soph. (9.5ppg & 2.9rpg) vs 7'4"Kusmierukec Jr. (5.3ppg & 3.2 rpg) advantage=WSU. another good match up to watch.

Bench= advantage WSU

Coaching=advantage WSU by a landslide.

Intangibles=advantage WSU
Keep in mind ISU lost to the HORRIBLE MUTES.

My guess is this one gets ugly FAST and WSU's younger guys will get a lot of minutes.

GO WILDCATS!!

When you guys say that you want "the bench" to get more minutes, other than Brown, who do you mean? Hajek who has been playing quite a bit? Fulton who always gets good minutes? Wheelwright who is the first guard in? Rahe has been running an 8 man rotation with only 9 active players. So who do you want to see play more? other than Brown.

I was thinking the same thing. With the injuries, Hajek & Wheelwright are getting plenty of minutes. Why does Brown need more minutes? There aren't any for him.. He won't be utilized at any point this season, especially once Bull & Mook are back in action.

I disagree with you about Brown. There will be a time, within the next few weeks, when his outside shooting and defense is going to be needed. He needs to get minutes in games like this one to become more self confident and be able to help when needed. Some kids are born with confidence, others need to have it nurtured in them. I think that the same thing is true with Fulton and Hayeck. Last year it was Richardson who needed to be brought along like that. It paid off down the stretch. Wheelwright seems to have unwaivering confidence. When he makes a mistake, and he has made plenty, he just keeps playing hard, with his head up. :thumb:

If Brown doesn't get more minutes then this year will have been a waste for him and he would have been better off red-shirting. He needs the minutes to develop.

What was up with all the turnovers and the crappy defense last night?

Good thing we were playing Idaho State :yikes:

Mahoney, Tresnak and Hajek combined for 8 points and 13 fouls :ohno:

Lillard, Bamforth and Fulton had great games Fulton 3 for 3 for 3's

Refs were of course horrid as usual, ISU has some great actors on thier team, refs fell for every one of them flops.

By the way.........

900 WINS BABY

Our Bigs flat out sucked last night, they got beat like a government mule. :ohno: And ISU exploited the fact that WSU does not have a small forward at this time. WSU better figure out how to handle the press, because they will probably see that a lot the rest of the year.
ISU played harder than WSU
I've never been this disappointed in a win before. :ohno: :ohno:

What makes you think we'll be able to beat the full court press now. We haven't in 5 or so years.

Rahe summed it up best when he made the cookoo hand gesture at Tresnak walking to the bench and told him to wake up. Tresnak & Hajek have never looked so bad. Going to be a long road trip next week if they don't wake up soon.

I don't understand the struggles with the press, that shouldn't happen with the quality of guards WSU has had in the last 5 yrs or so.

A quick peruse of the USU board and you will see complaints that Stew's teams have always had trouble breaking the press for over a decade. Basically Stew's & Rahe's press breaker sucks.

Maybe it's time for our staff to look around the country to see who is breaking presses and how they are doing it. You're never too old to learn a new trick. I'm sure that there is more than one way to pluck a duck. If you are seeing a pattern that has continued on for 20 years, and what you are doing is not working for you, I would think that you may want to look for the solution. I have always thought that you want to attack a press. Thay you want to make the other team pay for pressing you. We did that, once, when Dame took it all the way in for a dunk. Other than that, I thought we were too passive and that just made them more aggressive. :thumbdown:

BlueF;
What game were you watching. You single out a player who had ONE bad pass, when several others had way more. Mo and Bam had THREE of them, Dame had TWO, and Fulton had FOUR. If you are going to single someone out, at least get it right. I think this one falls on the shoulders of the staff, more than the players.

oldR:)

Read my earlier posts, I didn't single Brown only out. Dame had 26 pts, Bamforth had 21/6/6 & Fulton had 15 & 4 & Mahoney had 6 Rebounds. Maybe Brown was trying to pass it to you.

Aside from the offensive side of the game (which is the only good part of this game), the WHOLE TEAM is to blame for the poor passing and poor defense, there is no one person who did it worse than anyone else, they all played pretty poorly in the press, and on the defensive side.

Definetely not the same team that played Utah.

Oh well time to look forward, we got a scrappy Sacramento team coming in tomorrow. lets get another victory and get some much needed momentum going into Eastern.

Agreed. We shouldn't overlook Sac, but EWU looked good against Montana today. Total home job, though. They played well enough to win, but the officials took it away from them. But we all know how strange things happen to officials in Missoula...
