Conference TV Deal

Does anyone know who is negotiating our TV deal? I have a griz friend over and we can’t even watch the game because ESPNU is not part of our cable package.

Who ever is negotiating the conference TV deal should be fired! Nobody watches ESPNU, no bars put on ESPNU and most viewers don’t have ESPNU.

If ESPN refuses give us a respectable deal that includes 3-4 conference games and the title game on ESPN/ESPN2, than we should tell them to go screw themselves and put everything on Pluto TV.

FWIW, you can watch it on replay via ESPN3 now if you have an internet service that allows for ESPN3. ESPN3 puts most (or all?) of their games online an hour or so after they're over.

Agreed it was a bit annoying it wasn't on one of the main ESPN channels like our conference tournament used to be. Hell it wasn't streaming online (ESPN3 or PlutoTV) either...at least not anywhere legit unless you have a cable package with ESPNU already. I kind of counted on it being on Pluto or WatchBigSky as I thought the whole tournament was. Figured out that it wasn't just a few hours before tipoff. Thankfully there were some other options (DirecTV Now 7 day free trial, SlingTV 7 day free trial, and ...uh...other places). While the production on ESPNU was pretty good I would've preferred it be on Pluto/WatchBigSky so no one was locked out from watching it.

Check out Reddit's ncaaBBallStreams section if there's a game on ESPNU that you want to see but cant. It's often got a game thread with several streaming options. Just make sure you use Firefox or Google Chrome as your web browser, have uBlock Origin installed as an add block plugin, and are smart when it comes to not doing silly shit like installing something a popup window told you to.

That's how I streamed the game tonight and it was pretty good quality. Due to how the 2nd half went I'm going to rewatch the 2nd half on ESPN3.com a few dozen times :P

It’s interesting how big the gap is between the P5’s and everyone else. This tells me the Big Sky has the opportunity to be viewed nationally as much as the MWC and other non P5 conferences. It starts by getting a small deal with a major network for a few televised games. With all the major players coming into the broadcasting space, the opportunity is there for some T.V. revenue.

With so many people cutting the cable lately, it seems like the cable deals are not going to be as lucrative in the future. I think that I prefer the streaming deals. There just needs to be some streaming companies that can get more of the advertising pie. That is where the growth is throughout the country. The smaller leagues can certainly nibble away at that market. If the P5s don't have anyone watching what they have to offer, that cable market will dry up. We need to get our local pubs to start showing streamed games on their big screens. That will be a start. The quality of the stream needs to get better as well. I think that will come as the technology gets better. :coffee:
