Carvalho Tabbed As Preseason All-American

Brennan Carvalho
Portland State football player Brennan Carvalho was named a preseason first team All-American by the Sports Network today. It came as no surprise as Carvalho, who is making the move from left guard to center this season, was a consensus All- American in 2006.

The Viking senior has started all 28 games of his career entering the 2007 season. Earlier in the summer, Carvalho was rated as the top center in the nation at the NCAA I Football Championship Subdivision level.

A 6-1, 310 pounder from Kapa'a, Hawai'i, Carvalho is just 20 years old entering his senior season. He is a two-time first team All-Big Sky Conference selection.

I wish we had redshirted him. Will hate to see him leave after this season.

I agree, players only get better and more experienced. In 03 they wasted DJ Robinsons Red Shirt year and we went 4-7. You could say that they needed him but was it really worth not just throwing in an upperclassmen rather than wasting a young mans red shirt.

Brennan was a little different because we had a shot at making playoffs that year (04)but it was still not fair to him. This should be his Junior season.

Do you think Robinson would do well in this new system? He seemed to love to blitz, but at times was a little too undisciplined. Just my observation, no expert on the subject. Always liked his enthusiasm though.

Even though the viks are now in a 3-4 I have heard that they always like to have 7 in the box, they will have to blitz to make up for one less D-Lineman.

I think DJ would have excelled at one of the outside backer spots. He was an incredible player with a lot of speed so any way to get him on the field would have been a good thing but your are right, he did have a tendency to lose his cool.

JG actually seems like the kind of coach who appreciate occasional lack of discipline from his defensive players. /users/31/07/37/smiles/269784.gif
