Is Cal Poly closer to joining the WAC?

Shrinking WAC might hurt LA Tech
http://www.thenewsstar.com/article/20100820/SPORTS/8200321

"Benson said Tech's continuing membership with the WAC is more important now than ever, and that finding new members schools close to Tech — specifically, schools in neighboring Texas — is a possibility.

He acknowledged both UT-San Antonio and Texas State as possible candidates. UT-San Antonio is forming a football program and will play its first season as an FCS independent in 2011. The program aims to become a full member of FBS in 2014, with transition years in 2012 and 2013. Tech and UTSA have scheduled a home-and-home series for 2015 and 2016 that is contingent on UTSA becoming an FBS program.

"The State of Texas becomes a very important part of the WAC's future," Benson said."

And yes, Bakersfield.

From what I've seen on the UOP boards, there's been little talk of Cow Poly "officially" making this move. But things seem to change every day. Witness the annual Favre Fiasco. LOL.

I have no idea if we will make the move, but why would you go to the UOP board to see if there has been talk of CAL Poly "officially" making this move? Wouldn't it make more sense to go to the WAC or Cal Poly boards?

BTW, are you six or seven years old? I can picture you giggling like a little school girl every time you type Cow Poly. And you type it every time you write about Cal Poly.

That's a UOP thing, of course. Same thing for Sac talking about UCFE (UC Davis)....

Of course, I also make reference to JRCC (that's Jim Rome Community College), otherwise known as UC Santa Barbara; the Warners (UNI); the Keiblers (Towson State); the Kitties (Montana State, didn't make that one up), the Rices (Mississippi Valley State); and the Manure Pile (UC Davis). What's the big deal? It's not like I'm singling Poly out for abuse. In fact, you'll note that I've said that I (personally) wouldn't countenance a Sac jump without Poly. Poly can survive the jump on its own; I believe that particularly now that Fresneck and Reno have bolted, Sac needs help that Poly and the Manure Pile can provide. I do NOT see either being Idaho South.

Not a big thing SH. I would like to see Cal Poly, Sac State and UC Davis all make the jump together.

As far as I know, Cal Poly, Davis and Sac St., have not seriously thought about going to the WAC before or those plans were so far down the line, they didn't give it much thought.

But the changes this week in the MWC/WAC, have now pushed the issue of going to the WAC, on the front burner.

I think most schools are now studying what needs to be done and if they can afford to make the move up.

They are playing things close to the vest until there are firm offers and the schools are sure that the WAC will survive long term. Why move, if the WAC goes out of business in five years?

Or in 5 hours....

Makes sense to me too. I think the issue is Karl B shooting off his mouth about raising the buyout fee, and really putting, pardon the Weber reference, "erection poles" to Fresno and Nevada. He needs to grow up and look at the situation for what it is, the WAC is not the next BCS conference.
