My name is Scott Zimmerman and I played LB at UNC from 95-99. It has been frustrating to say the least for me and the alum from my era to watch the program fail. The previous AD and Scott Downing made it a point to disassociate with the alumni, traditions and culture that made UNC a powerhouse. Their intention was to eliminate any "coat tails" their success would be attributed to riding. When they failed they used the Transition to D1 excuse which we all knew was total BS. The other teams from the NCC (that we pounded every year...NDSU) made the same transition and continued dominating. Plus, we had numerous NFL players that also played in D1 FBS all star games (including myself) that proved we had guys at every position that could compete at any level. Their plan left UNC with no culture or foundation. They went on to build and foster a losing, miserable culture. Alienating all the alumni and boosters left nobody to hold the program accountable or support it. The culture is obviously diseased and after reading this forum it goes much deeper than the players and coaches. The fans, parents, students, media and alumni (including myself) need to look in the mirror, take accountability and be part of the solution. UNC is a special place and Colorado has the athletes to dominate at the D1 level.

Well said though I am curious to see what you think the solution is. I was one of the many on this board who were happy when Collins was hired with the hopes that he could bring back that culture that Glenn and Dalton built over the years (and with success he would be more likely to stay a bit longer as an alum)but his tenure has only seemed to add to the anger over how the football team is managed.

Please take a moment to read this. ....oh so much of the culture has changed:....however, not entirely.

Awesome read. I actually drove out to the 1996 Pitt State playoff game and had the time of my life (with my girlfriend (now wife) and a couple of friends). I flew out to the 2nd championship game against New Haven and went all alone but still had a blast. Seeing the names of the players brings back very fond memories.

Yea that was a great story. I remember the playoff game with Northwest Missouri State like it was yesterday. At the time I thought it was the most exciting football game I had ever seen and at any level including the pros. It was a fun time . Also great to hear from Zimmerman and his take on everything. Really enjoyed watching him play ! I would also like to hear him expand on his ideas of fixing our Bear problem ! GO BEARS

Oddly enough, one of my favorite sports memories is listening to the Clarion game on the radio when we blocked the short field goal with time running out to win on their wet muddy field. After that, you just knew they were going to win that title game.

Good to see your post Zimmerman. You were one of my favorite players in that Bear era! I'll see you all at Nottingham, cheering the Bears to their first winning season since moving up. And remember, UNC will someday once again become a great place to play football!

I remember Zimmerman on Hard Knocks with Dallas playing fullback, anyone else remember that shit?
