CU's coming after Tad

CU has Tad in their sights as their primary target. I hope he doesn't go, I hate CU and if Tad's there I'd have to wish him success.

Primary target? I thought McClain would be their guy. Oh well, maybe Tad can go there and we'll take McClain?

I'm a UNC student, and my parents are CU boosters....So I'll add this: CU is interested in Tad because they won't have to overpay to get him (I believe he makes about 110k to 130k when bonuses are added up). Yes, the players want McClain, and he has turned down a shot to go to Wake (Bzdelik has one open assistant coach spot to fill). Boyle, however, would not be a great choice in Boulder and one that Mike Bohn would have a hard time selling based on what I know. This is a critical hire for Bohn for a number of reasons. One, the failure has been Dan Hawkins is on him when you ask their boosters, as he practically handed Hawkins the job after he fired Barnett. Two, he acted as if he was asleep at the wheel when the Bzdelik to Wake rumors came up last week, and tried to beg Jeff, a complete failure in Boulder, to stay. Three, while Linda Lappe is a buff, that hire can be considered nothing short of risky. (As much as you guys might not agree, Tad's resume is not that impressive-- 56-68 at UNC, nobody knows if he can recruit Big 12 level talent---his first senior class was made up of guys who were available when he accepted the job here, which if I remember was after signing day in 06, and a 1-3 record in the postseason (Big Sky tourney + this year's CIT)

Here's my point--Bohn needs a hire that can win him the press conference and buy him some time. While what he has done here is nothing short of great, Boyle doesn't do that right now, and a number of CU boosters would fork over money toward a buyout of Bohn right now if you asked them to.

CU doesn't deserve a coach like Boyle. On so many levels from the punk trust fund foul mouth students to the arrogance of their athletic departments.

Very well said, hoel. As a diehard CU fan and as a current UNC student, I couldn't agree more with everything you said.

One more thing. Because of his snub of CU as a player, he was/still is persona non grata in Boulder. Go back to the way he was booed when KU would play at CU...The only reason why his name is in the mix is because Mike Bohn would not have to overpay to get him IMO.

I don't like how this is playing out even if he doesn't get the job. Boyle is interviewing today and even if he doesn't get the job, what does this say about his commitment to UNC? He's still not liked in Boulder by a lot of people because he dissed them as a player and went to KU. He's loved in Greeley, absolutely loved. Money isn't everything and it's not like he's lining up in the bread lines here. In fact, Hinrichs said UNC is working on a long-term contract for him to stay here. I guess when it comes down to it, I've lost a little respect for the man. If he does go, we'll be fine. I think he's recruiting skills might be a little over rated and some of the key players we've gotten the past years are due to our assistants. IE, Jabril Banks being recruited by BJ Hill.

Can you just picture this:
Boyle to a prize recruit: "Son, you will love playing in Boulder! You need to be a Buff, it's a great place to play."
Recruit: "Why didn't you play here?"

Of course he's going to move on to a bigger program, it just sucks we got one good season and now back to the shit. I'm surprised that's all it took to get the buzz, you'd think he'd have to prove more long term.

It's certainly not ideal, but I can't blame him if he can do more for his family. As far as us being in trouble if he goes. I completely disagree. We have everybody but two guys returning. I hear the two guys we redshirted are both really good players plus the two freshmen coming in. I just hope if he goes they give coach Hill the nod. He is the one who recruited all these kids. I think they would all play hard for him and keep this program moving upward.

I keep hearing from Boulder Bohn wants to hire Boyle, but the fan support for that move isnt there......mainly because he dissed CU in the 80s and probably cant recruit at CU because of what he did to CU 30 years ago.....Hell stay, win 20+ again, and then bolt.....

The whole, "the fan's will never forgive him for going to Kansas in 1983" stuff is a bunch of crap. It's a done deal. Tad will be announced later today. He leaves UNC better than he found it. This is a much better position then when he was hired. There is NO reason to believe that we'll take a step backword. Thanks Tad. Good luck, i hope you have success.
