Da Bears pt. 2

griz are now in the middle of 3 games in 6 days with the rivalry game coming up on sat.

awesome to see us get 23 wins for first time since 2003.

I wasnt going to do this, but after listening to that announcer for UNC....

NA NA NA NA
NA NA NA NA
HEY HEY HEY
GOODBYE

See you next year UNC

Glad to finally see Dame get some calls when driving to the hoop. Great job kicking the Bears when they were down. By the way, did anybody else see Chase Grabau's latest ridiculous hair vs. EWU tonight?

NAU couldn't help out WSU tonight.

UNC's announcer gets a bronx cheer for being the least objective of all the conference announcers I've heard. I understand part of it all is to be a bit of a homer but the Bears never do anything wrong in his mind and I've heard him gripe about/belittle opposing fans/towns on a few occasions. He just doesn't seem very gracious to be doing what he is doing for a living.

Remind me why they were ever allowed to host at that place again.

I know that having a 35-17 free throw advantage over NAU and 35-19 over U of Montana while playing at home definitely had something to do with UNC winning the conference last year.

I agree that was terrible, but have a hard time listening to any radio play by play anymore, including Weber's. Dutch bitches more about the officiating than just about anyone. The whole profession has become a joke. Just call the damn game without all of the biased BS. The best I've heard this year is NAU's, he acted like a professional for the most part.

Got back from game and wrote up my thoughts on it - http://www.bigskybball.com/2012/02/weber-state-has-too-much-offense-for.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Real quick... Lillard obviously was fantastic. He controlled the game, got his teammates easy baskets, and made some big shots. He was masterful at creating contact and getting to the line.

That said... I am assuming you guys are not happy with the UNC announcer because most likely he was complaining about calls (was at the game so didn't hear him)... Hill was very upset with them also, said after the game it was "frustrating." I will say, as an impartial observer, it seemed like Lillard got some calls that nobody else on the court was getting. Not that they were bad calls, but there seemed to be a lack of consistency a bit from where I was seated.

Wheelwright was fantastic and should be ready to step into the starting role next year, and Tresnak was really impressive in the post as well.

I came away very impressed... thought they looked a little better against UNC than Montana did, for whatever that is worth. Tuesday should be excellent.

NAU's is the best I have heard, Arky is good too but I cant stand listening to Dutch

It wasnt just Lillard, he was complaining about EVERY UNC foul, even the obvious ones he wined about, calling Bullinger a flopper and saying he's going for an acadamy award, one of the hardest working players on the court. I dont know if he knew or not, but our bigs were in foul trouble all game long, and at one point in the second half UNC was in the bonus and the Bears only had 3 fouls against them. And he was complaining about the officiating at that time too.

Troy is something else. Yikes!!

My favorite part of his whining was when BJ got a Tech, which was deserved, he should have gotten a Tech mins earlier for his sarcastic clapping at the refs, about how unfairly that game was reffed. Hell, it wouldn't end!! He kept on complaining, for the rest of the game, about how bad the refs were and how they weren't going to give the cubbies a chance to get back in the game. LOLARIOUS!! Dame had 6 FTs down the stretch cause the Cubbies were intentionally fouling, for what reason, I don't know, the game was over. Holy Cow!! The refs gave the cubbies too many chances, Proctor traveled almost everytime he got the ball, yet, he was at the FT line half the night. Not Weber's fault he can't shoot FT's. By the way...I loved Connor's airball!!

Troy has a very short memory. Devon was one of the biggest floppers in league history. He would be falling down during a shot. He would kick his legs out in an attempt to make contact. Thats how he broke his foot against Weber. He was trying to get a call. That guy spent most of the game from the line, but those games were all fairly reffed according to Troy. Just like last years 36FT vs. 17FT game against NAU. The Jacks are still walking bow legged because of that game.

Are you kidding me? Dutch is hilarious if for nothing more than the funny factor. Listening to an old man recommend that Big Sky refs call girls basketball games makes me smile a little. Don't get me wrong, he Is WAY over the top most of the time, but it always makes for a good laugh and adds something to the entertainment factor of listening to the games via radio. If I wasn't a Weber fan I'd be totally put off by him though.

NAU seems to be a class act all around from their announcer to their video production/feed on bigskytv

Top Announcers LOOOOOOOOOOOL (based on fairness and objectivity; I like Arky the most without Brad. But nonetheless, Arky is a definite homer):
1. NAU's Mitch Stroman
2. PSU's duder. He is fairly objective
3. ISU...since I've never heard him (I'm sure you are pretty good Votb)
4. SAC he's pretty funny. Well, at least the guy who was calling the game against Weber was. He kept commenting on miracle plays when Sac did things right. To me he sounded somewhat intoxicated.
5. Eastern the guys doesn't really know the opposing teams or for that matter, his own team, but..why would that matter?
6. Carl Arky...Yes, he can be quite the homer. But there is always worse. Trevor and during football Ty would do wonders for the objectivity of the broadcasts. Dutch!! LOOOOOOOOOOOL. Brad...YIIIIIIIIIKKKKKEESSS!
7. UM's...they have a tag team of idiots. Not only are they homers, but they are idiots. You'd think that UM, since they have such a highly touted Journalism and Broadcasting program that the athletic department could find one, if not amazingly two, qualified individuals.
8. MSU...he and Troy should be tied. When Weber played up there a week ago, he wouldn't give the Cats any sort of recognition. I was amazed that MSU, in his eyes, were sooo perfect. How could they commit fouls. I mean, this is Huse's boys.
9. Troy...need I say more. Biggest homer of them all.

Worst Sideline coaches.
1. Geving
2. BJ
3. Hayford
4. Huse
5. Adras...The foot stomper...Yes, I know he is gone, but Brown was too relaxed it was weird watching him.
6. Katz
7. OB...same are Adras...I'd put Martin here too.
8. Tinkle
9. Rahe...YES, I'm a homer, but not like Troy.

I agree that NAU's announcer is the best.
I would have to put Arky at #2 - I think he is a homer (they all are), but he is the most fluent, descriptive, and clever of them all.
I like ISU at #3 - but their color guy for football is awesome. A couple of years ago he swore when WSU came back in OT to win. Loved it!
Don't know about the rest to make any type of judgement, but NAU is the cream of the crop followed by Arky.

Hmmm, maybe this series really is turning into a little bit of a rivalry.

This has gone from what was considered a friendly rivalry to hatred for one another.
