Of course it's a must win, it's the freaking Aggies! I too am tired of the "conference games are all that matter" attitude from some of the fanbase. Randy can coach his team how he wants (although I really wish he wouldn't publicly say that his focus is just on getting ready for conference play), but as a fan a home game against our biggest non-conference rival IS a must win. If I have to sit and listen to Aggie fan cheer all night and then walk out after a Weber loss on our court, I might straight up murder someone. JK, of course.

Also wanted to point out that it's a good bet that most posters here would say that in last year's post season play, it was much more positive & exciting being a Weber State fan during the CIT than it was being a Grizzlies fan in their NCAA debacle. No matter the excuses, the NCAA showing was embarrassing for the Big Sky, and that plus OOC game results during the regular season have a lot to do with national respect, seeding in tournaments, etc. The NCAA tourney is no doubt the targeted prize, but making a good showing once in is all important; regular season wins against non-conference foes help prepare. Some fans maybe just satisfied with beating Big Sky games, but some of us aren't and we aren't sorry about that! :x

Not to mention that non-conference wins, especially wins against quality opponents, go a long way in determining a team's NCAA tournament seed.

:twocents: If Weber can't beat the likes of a CSU or USU, I don't want them going to March Madness. Weber and the BSC does not need the devastating, negative focus the Griz put out on the national stage last year. If memory serves, Weber's last appearance wasn't too hot either. It's time for this program to take another step and play every game as "must win" and not be content thinking OOC is good way to get them ready for conference play which is the only "ticket" avenue. I'm all for playing up to get better but if you haven't shown any signs of being able to compete with the best, maybe you shouldn't be playing the best. The BSC hasn't had a great recent track record of preparing its conference representative for being ready to compete.
You don't want them going to the NCAA's? WTF??? Oh and don't play the big boys if you can't beat them is a really WEAK thing to say. Your argument here is so flawed it isnt even funny. :twocents:

It's not an argument, it's an opinion. Try reading a little closer, I'm saying if they can't COMPETE with the big boys as potentially demonstrated with losses to a CSU or a USU(at home) then I prefer they don't roll into the tournament on the merits of winning in a weak conference and then get their arses handed to them. Neither team benefits from a 25+ point beat down. The same is true If Weber pummels a smaller school. Not to mention, you end up on the big stage, in that situation, and NO ONE wants to watch the blowout so what good comes from it? I realize those types of results are inevitable during a season but I stand by what I said, if Weber doesn't belong in the tourney from a competitive standpoint, then I hope they aren't in it. With the BSC what it is, the OOC games do more telling you if a team might be able to represent at "the dance."

BSC teams already fight an up-hill battle, they don't need to get spanked on a national stage. They have to be frequently competitive or they lose more ground trying to strengthen their program and conference. If Rahe really doesn't have beating USU at home as one of the team goals (and practically a must win) then that's a sad narrative. In my mind it's the most important OOC game of the year, for several reasons.

Wow. So SW, if WSU loses to Utah State Tuesday you would rather the Cats not win the Big Sky championship (3 and 1/2 months from now, when they may be substantially better), or if they win, they simply pass on going to the NCAA tournament so as not to get blown out?
Sounds to me like you think the NCAA tournament should be reserved simply for the top ranked teams in the country and conference champions be damned - unless they happen to be one of those top 64 teams.

Ok, I was upset after we got our butts handed to us by CSU. I thought we were going to play well and have a good chance to win. We didn't play well and CSU played amazing. They had come off a tough lose to Gonzaga and you could tell came out really focused. They have a dang good coach and are a very good program even though they did lose a ton of good players off last years team. I give them lots of credit. I have a feeling we will rebound in a big way against USU like CSU did against us after getting beat down by the Zags. Its not going to be easy though. The Aggies are very good this year. Here is my position for position break down. I hope some USU fans chime in.

PG. Senglin vs. Roland Advantage EVEN
I like Senglin better because I'm a Weber fan, but Roland is a Senior and solid player so I'm going with even here.

SG Richardson vs. Medlin Advantage AGGEIS
I wish this was not the case, but Medlin is dang good even though I think he is a Punk A$$. I hope Richardson gets out of his slump this game because we need him.

SF Berry vs. Butterfield Advantage Wildcats.
I'm sure USU fans going to get mad at this pick but Berry is just over all better in all areas. I think he has a big game for us.

PF. Bolomboy vs. Davis. Advantage Wildcats
Davis looks like he has been a pleasant surprise for the Aggies, but no way he is better then Joel. I predict Joel has a big game.

Center. Tres vs. Shaw Advantage EVEN
Aggie fans will debate this, but this is too close to call for me. Both very good players. Will be a good matchup.

Bench. Advantage AGGIES
I thought we would have a good bench so far we don't. USU's is actually pretty solid.

I predict a very close hard fought game. I think we rebound and win a close game. 78-74 WEBER

I respect your opinion and analysis.

PG: I'll agree with you here as far as Senglin vs Roland goes, it's pretty even. However, we go 2 deep with PGs who are as good as Senglin, that will be an advantage.

SG: Adv. Medlin, and it's not close.

SF: I don't want to seem like I'm bashisng Berry, I think he's a great player. I think Butterfield is (slightly) better, but I'll call it a push. Butterfield is a great shooter (shot 50% last year, 43% from 3), rebounder, etc. He's a hustler and can do it all. You guys didn't get a chance to see him really last year, but the guy is a stud (averaged something ridiculous like 17 ppg and 9 rpg in the 2nd half of the season last year)

PF: Adv you guys. Davis is still learning a bit, but you're right he has been a pleasant surprise. More athletic than I thought, good hustle. Not a great shooter, though. I like Bolomboy.

C: Adv. USU. Shaw is just a very talented player. Good post game, very solid mid range jumper, good rebounder. Averaging 14.2/8.4 last year, he was one of the best big men in the country. Hope Tresnak is healthy for this matchup, will be fun to watch.

Bench: Like you said, Adv. us.

Should be a great game, I'm expecting a battle. But after seeing us play the likes of USC and Miss St, I think we pull this one out something like 85-78.

Even if you guys lose Tuesday, you'll still certainly be eligible for improvement by the end of the season. Breaking in your young guys and you could certainly make some noise in the tournament. I don't get how losing to good teams in the first 2 weeks counts you guys out, teams like BYU and USU are very solid and picked in the upper tier of their conferences (CSU on the other hand surprised me a bit beating you guys as badly as they did, they went on to lose to a mediocre UTEP team a week later).

Winning isn't everything...it's the only thing. That being said, I feel that the WILL to win is the most powerful force in play here. My vote is for "Of coarse it's a must win!" (name calling deleted)

Losing Tresnak to a sprained ankle in the first 10 mins of the CSU game (he tried to play but it was smarter to rest him and not having Hajek available yet, was what killed the Cats at CSU. Bolomboy couldn't afford any fouls he was all we had left. Hahaha) really hurt the Cats. And J-Rich was out of sorts and uncomfortable. Tres will be available and around 95% on Tuesday, from what I've heard. Weber has to share the ball better and toughen up. Gotta stop playing so much ISO and pass the ball better. Spread the defense and hit open shots.

I feel Richardson should be the PG and Senglin play the 2. They can switch back and forth, but to start out. Rich has to guard Medlin though. We need Barry and Rich to show up and lead. Finally...Royce needs to stop putting so much pressure on himself. Relax and play his game. I know he is one of our best defenders. He has to stay tough though.
