Trib Reporting Dave logan to Interview for Head Coach

http://www.greeleytribune.com/article/20101222/NEWS/101229984/1051&ParentProfile=1001

Wow, talk about a shocking move, if true. I can't see what's in it for Logan though.

Great way for him to break into college coaching, if that's what he wants to do now.

Use his high profile and contacts to tackle the UNC issue, make it a success and then Katy bar the door for big Dave if he wants to advance.

Makes a lot of sense to me, if in fact, big Dave wants to coach.

The only thing I can think of, is that its a challenge for him. He surely knows the situation at UNC with money and he does not need the money ! So, he must be serious about the position or he would not even waste his time on the interview

Hahahaha have fun watching more one win years if Logan's the guy. If Jay had any cahones, he'd tell Tom Beck and co. to pony up the cash needed to get Bobby Kennedy and make that happen.

This is stupid. He's a high school football coach. A HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL COACH. Don't do it Jay. Just hire Earnest Collins right now and get things going.

No. We already had Bobby Kennedy here, his name was Scott Downing. The last thing UNC needs is some FBS lackey with no idea of what he's doing as a head coach. Though I agree with you that Logan would be a dumb hire, Kennedy isn't the guy, either. Right now my order of preference is Collins, Breske, Stitt, O'Boyle, Logan.

Are they nuts. There is no way a HIGH SCHOOL coach can make the tranisition to Div 1 football. Does he know NCAA regulations, how to recruit Divison 1 players, fund raise, or even about acedemic standards that his players have to meet for eligibility purposes. He doesn't even meet the college coaching criteria aspect of the prerequisites to apply for the job. I would love to hear what the committee has to say about this interview. Bring in either Collins or O'Boyle before recruiting is even over.

I am not sold on Logan either but you guys are kidding yourselves if you don't think Logan can recruit div 1 or raise funds or has the know how on recruiting requirements. The guy knows football inside and out. Geez, he would fill the stadium just by showing up

If you think Kennedy is Downing, Jr., you're dead wrong----
Three major differences---
Downing was forced out of Lincoln by Scott Downing.
Kennedy is regarded as one of the best recruiters at any level in college football.
Kennedy is an alum.

Beardown, you and the others on this board like you are the ones who are stupid. Dave Logan would be perfect for this job and UNC would be lucky to get him. He's an excellent X's and O's coach and he's also an excellent Jimmy and Joe's coach. Have you seen his teams play? They are disciplined, they understand their assignments and the overall scheme, and they play hard as hell for him. They have attitude and swagger which is something sorely missing around this program. They handle their winning with class and respect for their opponent.
As far as recruiting is concerned, he's recruited kids to Mullen for years and not necessarily just from Colorado. The man has national recognition, has connections all over the place and his integrity is above reproach. Whenever there's an opening for a head coach in Colorado, whether it's college or pro, his name comes up. Obviously, his aspirations are to be a head coach at a big time program eventually. But, I think what he has learned is that he's going to have to prove himself as the head of a D1 college level program before getting an opportunity as a head coach at a big time program. UNC would be a great next step for him and I think he could see himself there for a long time because Colorado is his home and it's where his business dealings are. I could also see assistant coaches falling all over themselves to work with him.
That brings up another point "money". I'm sure Logan is paid very well by the various endeavors he's involved in. It's well known that he gives his coaching salary at Mullen to his assistant coaches. Big time corporate advertisers would be more than happy to spend some marketing dollars at a program where Dave Logan is the head coach. Hire the man, He's a Winner!!!

I would think that each of the candidates that had previously been interviewed would be successful high school coaches. I am not sure that a successful high school coach would have the same sucess moving to the D1 level.

That being said, hiring Logan would be a bold move. The amount of support for the program would almost certainly increase, and the buzz created might get some recruits that otherwise would not commit to UNC.

In my mind, it is all about the money or lack thereof to be able to make the type of move that would give the program the best opportunity for success right away.

Hiring Logan might be a gamble, but it is one that may pay dividends both on and off of the field. Tough call for Jay on this one, as his star will definatley be tied to this hire either way. O'Boyle or Logan is what I am betting on.

I say Sign Dave Logan. Mullen would probably destroy our team if they played, we are horrible. There really cant be that much difference for a coach to go from Mullen High School to UNC. I don't care if we are FCS or not we still play in a high school size stadium and we have no money. We should be happy he even wants to interview with us.

A couple things here, it's interesting this has popped up. I have to wonder if someone from UNC didn't reach out to him because he obviously wasn't in the original pool of applicants.

If so I'm glad to see they are out beating the bushes and not just taking what comes to them.

This would be a big splash hire, the media attention on the program moving forward would quadruple overnight. Right now nobody even notices the UNC program outside of a couple thousand alums and Greeley residents... with this hire, forget it, we'll be followed much more closely by the Denver media.

Recruiting... this would elevate our status ten fold...

X'and O's... that's to be seen, schemes are similar across levels it's how they execute.

Also, what will his staff be? He would be able to attracte much more interesting coaching candiates than the ilk we've seen in the past.

Last, if he is ambitious then he is hungry and knows he has to win to move forward... I want a hungry coach that wants to win and move on if possible, that means we have something good going if people want our coaches...

Consider this as well, he would be giving up some pretty good gigs to come here, a radio job, etc. so he'd have to be all in... that is a good thing, not just some guy that took the job because he was about to get fired or he wanted a pay raise. He doesn't have to come here, he's got other things going on so I'd think he's be very commited and fired up. Also, with his name and he comes here and fails it's a huge embarrassment, I think this is a guy that would will the program to victories. The guy has been successful in everything he has done, that says something about character.

This reminds me of the Tad Boyle hire in a lot of ways.
