Denver Post

The Denver Post Sports continues to leave out UNC on all fronts. They posted all D1 programs schedules today except ours. Never any articles or anything. I get that we have sucked but there are 4 D1 programs in the State and only 3 get love.

I have sent emails to the Sports Editor just asking for an mention here and there. I thought that if you all campaigned as well it may help.

I like it! When we were winning in the D2 days we got lots of ink in the Denver papers (there were two major papers back then).

I am sure that most of you will think that I am joking, but I am not.
I think Coach Collins should contact Scott and make the request to write up UNC in the Post. Coach needs to work on his communication skills (especially with the media) and it is always good to set aside your pride and be humble. Yes, he should plead with Scott to write about UNC.

Kaydee ...great point. in addition to the public (fans) contacting The Post the University should. I doubt that Collins will so does anyone know a PR contact at the school? Or is that the best route? the Players deserve it even if that coach doesn't promote.

Here's the Staff directory for UNC - take your pick:

Good point on Collins not being the best with the media, Kaydee...He also needs to embrace social media and start interacting with fans on twitter and FB. He needs to build a presence, like most coaches have, on those social media platforms.

Well, Troy Coverdale posts on here occasionally. Perhaps he can confirm or deny your accusations about Collins and his relationship w/ the media.

I don't know of too many head coaches that interact w/ regular fans on Twitter.

Coverdale is great at play by play, but he's the ultimate homer. He's hardly an objective voice, and would say all the right things in Collins' favor.

Coach Collins isn't really liked by media outlets. It doesn't surprise me that they aren't covering us. Especially since we aren't playing a d1 opponent week one. There's not much to talk about Unc this season especially how the last 4 seasons have gone. No offense to anyone. And I couldn't agree more about Troy. Hahaha he may be the only one on this board who won't say anything bad about the program or Unc

303 & 15, you should also be aware that any public comment I make that would be considered critical would also make things uncomfortable for me to do my job. It's not being a homer, it's ensuring that I can still have access to the coaches & players so I can do my job. My personal views are to be just that, and they have to be shared with people I trust. If I come one here and unleash criticism like a standard board member does, I'd be out the door.

As for the other "hows and whys", the Post doesn't have nearly the personnel they've had in the past to cover teams. That's a big part of why Terry Frei went from being a "special topics" writer to being the beat guy at CSU. AP has all but gutted their Denver bureau and is working towards having recaps authored by computer.

Kobee has done quite a bit to get coverage, but when the Post only wants to send a guy to a game once in awhile versus having someone here every game day, that's their prerogative, especially given the landscape right now. I do know that outreach to Denver radio stations has also occurred, but the stations haven't been receptive.

You only have two media outlets that cover the team on a regular basis and we get along fine with Earnest. I'd love to know what media you're including in making the claim that the media doesn't get along with him.

Troy, thanks for the information regarding the media. It is sad how many outlets are cutting corners and sacrificing great reporting. The thought of computer recaps makes me cringe.

I understand that you can't be critical about the Bears -- that was my whole point to begin with! That is why your closing statement that you "get along fine with Earnest" holds no value. You started off by saying you can't be critical of UNC/then closed by not being critical...because you can't. You're employed by the team and, therefore, not an objective voice.

I didn't directly say that Collins is disliked by the media - That was a previous poster. I suggested that, since the Bears get little to no coverage, that he expands his social media presence. When you are getting no press, you need to get creative and think outside the box.

I'd like to see tougher questions asked. I would like to see more accountability from the coaching staff. We all know that if they start winning, the media will come. Hopefully that starts to happen, but after years of optimism I'm not confident at all.

I do really enjoy your calls on Saturdays when I can't get out to the games. Thanks, Troy.

You're at practice a lot. Who do you think has the leg-up on the QB race? Coaches will say it's even, but what's your opinion?

Newsome has been the steadiest between practices and the scrimmage, Knipp has been good in both, too. But, that's strictly my view.

But you called me a homer. There's a difference there, that's all I'm saying.

Nice article in today's Denver Post about our "four" QBs. It appears that the article was written before Brock got hurt, because they mention him still in the battle for the starting position. Because the accompanying photo only has Knipp, Newsom and Coach Collins in it, I assume it was taken after Brock's injury (otherwise he would have been in it as well). In any case, a page two article and photo is a step in the right direction. It was probably intiatiated by a press release sent by our SID. Good job, now keep it up.

well time to dig this subject up again. UNC was the only Colorado D1 football team to win last week and received zero coverage. Please join the campaign and contact the DP....

This program has a bigger issue than Denver Post coverage................ :ohno: :ohno:

I agree. While it would be nice to have the coverage, I can't imagine there is a big demand for coverage for a team that gets 200 students and about 1,000 local fans to show up to a game. Hell, even when we were good, we were an afterthought in Denver. Lets get winning first then the coverage and interest will follow.
