Eastern stays away from JC transfers and brings guys up through the system (a majority from Washington) like Boise State.

I like what the Eagles are doing in the weight room, They are training more for power up front, knowing that it takes strength and size to controll the LOS to run the ball more effectively.

Personally, I'm not the best at what I do, however my dad taught me that through hard work, hustle, and a never quit attitude great things will happen. Your football team is proof of that!
All in-state recruits & no transfers huh?

Starting Qb Gage Gubrud is from Oregon.
Backup Qb Eric Barriere is from Inglewood, Ca.
Walter Payton Award winner Erik Meyer? California.
Walter Payton Award winner Bo Levi Mitchell? (Tr)Katy Tx.
Big Play VA Vernon Adams? Taiwan Jones? Shaq Hill? Kendrick Bourne? Kyle Padron(Tr)? I could go on.

With the exception of Kupp, Sherritt & Peach, almost all of EWU’s best players are out of state recruits & transfers.

Also, weight room & “gaining size at O-line” is all Coach Best knows, he’s been an offensive line coach at EWU for 20 years! Last but not least, being a hard worker doesn’t make you a great coach. It also doesn’t magically make you the right man to lead the Eastern Eagles football team. Don’t be fooled by that EKG marketing stuff, if Best changes the offense into a “ground ‘n pound” rushing attack, we’re screwed. Bank it. Anyone going to man up & give me some credit where it’s due? :coffee:
GoEags!
Hey BF you might want to work on your reading comprehension before you post and prove you are an idiot!

My opinion that Best isn’t the right guy for the HC job makes me an idiot? No facts, logic or reasoning... just name calling? I expect more than emotional name calling from EWU FB fans. Is this eGriz!? :ohno:

79 washington,11 California,3 Oregon, 3 Idaho, by my calculations that leaves 6 on the roster from Montana, Nevada, Arizona, and New York. Let me Know if I missed anyone, I wouldn't want to be put on report for not knowing where everyone in Brovo Company is at all times.

Not to put words into Clawman's mouth, but I think the point about "reading comprehension" has to do with IdaEag92 saying EWU stays away from JC (Junior College) players and brings up the players through the system (most from Washington), and then you respond with a very condescending and defensive post starting with "All in-state recruits and no transfers, huh?" That wasn't what he said. He was making good conversation, and I'm assuming you took IdaEag92 differently than intended.

No disrespect from here reguarding your fans or your football program. Quite the opposite, I love the way Eastern plays football it reminds me of Boise State in a lot of ways. I respect the fact that so many players come from your home state. That keeps the Local excitement for your program alive. There was a time when Boise State carried a substantial number of players from Idaho on their roster, now I believe there are only 13 on the team, most of them from the Majic Valley. I hope Eastern never falls into the same prediciment as U of I, with a revolving door of coaches who are not vested in the Moscow community, JC players who might be extreemly good , play mostly for themselves, and a university with a attitude that Idaho kids just arn't good enough. Just ask Mrs. VanderEsch , Her son wasn't even worthy of a walkon . Hope that Gunner Amos get's a chance at Idaho State and does well, he played 2 years at Idaho always in the shadow of Coach Patrino's kid, who probably wouldn't have been good enough to play at the College of Idaho. Any way keep up doing what your doing, your football athleates are doing well in school, they participate in the community and the schools, the ones I've had the privilage of meeting are genuinely nice young men, and their great athleats who take pride in being Eagles. Good Luck on your quest for the Naty!!!

IdaEag92, I like and concur with most of what you said. I would have liked it more if you could have again referenced Bravo (or was it Brovo?) company. Either way I liked it!

IdaEag92, Thanks for the positive things you have to say about Eastern football. You probably have noticed that EWU is willing to take a chance on kids from small high schools that rarely get a chance to play beyond Division 3 or NAIA. Right now that includes: Joe Lang, Dennis Meritt, Jim Townsend, Ryan Nilles, Kurt Calhoun, Will Gram, and others?

Sorry, that would be "Bravo"! It's been 40 years, and writeing After Action reports were never my strong suit. Goooo Eagles, you own the Sky!

Until we get some more speed and reliability out of our WRs, we will stay out of playoffs. Biggest deficit imho. Haven't seen Eagle play much that I recall, but I hope he is bringing some speed and/or quickness to the table.

Eastern had an insanely rated WR class last year; most of those guys redshirted in 2017. But yes, you are dead on right, no one expected our receivers to be as bad as they were last year. We couldn't put a single WR on the field that didn't have some sort of issue (too small, poor hands, running the wrong routes on the wrong coverages, etc).

My hunch is this group takes a big step forward this year, and by the end of the year, it wouldn't surprise me if most of our numbers in receiving are generated by freshman and sophomores.
