Depth Chart?

Not sure what's holding them back from naming Orms the starter. I've been to a few practices and DO looks like the best suited for this offense. I'm not a big Matt Baca fan and Laboto has good size, speed and big arm but lacks accuracy.

more confirmation of the QB announcement thursday..

Yea I like Orms and the way he feels confidant back there but am leaning towards Baca and his arm strength over Orms. Lobato seems inconsistent at this point. I say its between Orms and Baca! And have a feeling we will see both play .

It seems to me that if they are all that close that the coaches can't decide, then the team should decide who they want as their leader. My experience with teams is that someone with the right leadership is more valuable than someone with just talent and no leadership. The mental part of the game is very important and the right leader will bring out the best in the team.

Having watched all three QBs this is my opinion about who should be the starter. IMO, it should be Orm's position to lose. He has the most complete game among the three. He can run and he's an accurate passer. He has extensive starting experience and should know a lot about the defenses he will face. He's a "gamer" who makes good decisions (for the most part) under pressure, and I believe he has the respect and confidence of his teammates. He will run through a brick wall to make a first down or a TD; which leads to what his downside seems to be and that is staying healthy and hanging onto the ball.

Baca, started one game last year against Sac. St. and it was a disaster. I'm not saying it was all his fault, far from it, but he appeared to be tentative under pressure. I believe that Baca may be a better pocket passer than Orms but he's not the runner or decision maker Orms is. IMO, Baca has a hard time moving in the pocket and avoiding the sack.

Lobato, is the strongest runner of the three but he's not an accurate passer. He overthrows his receivers on long passes, throws behind his receivers on short passes and does not seem to have the "touch" to get the ball to a receiver or back on short quick passes particularly under pressure. IMO, Lobato should be used in a "wildcat" situation/formation. When the Bears need to make one to three yards for a 1st down or TD he should be unstoppable. I would not want to be the player responsible for keeping this guy out of the end-zone.

Orms should get the start against Lindenwood, Baca should be the backup and Lobato should be used to pick up a couple of tough yards when necessary. If Orms doesn't play well against Lindenwood then the coaches shouldn't hesitate to go to the player who came in second in the competition for starting QB.

I couldn't agree more. I don't think DO has done anything to lose lose his job. I am a little concerned about his ability to make better decisions in tight ball games. Look back at the EWU game. He made some great plays, but the last play where he didn't secure the ball when he was running and EW striped the ball away, was the play of the game. He needed to tuck the ball. And same thing with the Weber State game earlier. In the first over time I believe, he went in for a score on the 2 yard line on an option play to win the game, but he could have tossed the ball back to the running back and the running back would have walked in. Simple stuff, I know but that comes back to haunt you. However, of the three I still think he gives us the best option to win. He's a 5th year senior and a great leader. Baca will have his shot next year. BTW, has anyone been out to the practices the last couple days? I know Boyer wanted each to run a full practice before naming a starter. Orms was Tuesday, I think Laboto was yesterday? Let us know how it went. Also, yes a starter is important but we will probably see at least 2 QB's this year so I hope it doesn't wreck the others confidence.

Announcement of starting QB has been delayed until Friday morning. Check The Mirror's website for breaking news or read Monday's issue.

I'm kind of think that if it was Orms, we would have heard already. We know what he brings. Maybe it's not what the coaches are looking for.

@Bear Fiend

It should be TODAY. When exactly, I'm not sure. Media will be sent a press release at some point this morning, hopefully. I won't be able to post on here later today, so check The Mirror's website for information. Hope this helps.

Depth chart will be released with the weekly game notes on Tuesday. Check the Media Center link on the football page, and each week's notes will be there when they become available.

I would assume the reason one hasn't been released yet is by decision of the HC...

Be interested to see if BARRYISAWINNAH made the team (or was able to follow through with his try out).

My understanding is that Coach Collins kept about 10 walkons from last Thursday's tryouts. Don't know if Barry is one of them.

Depth chart? and what is that thing on #22's ankle in some of the pictures?

Not sure what's going on with Deens, but Burnley is out with an ankle. Not sure when he will return. I'm hoping to see the new transfer from CU, Hildreth but he's WAY behind in learning the offense. The true Fresh, will need to step up.
