This is a huge loss for the Vikings, especially for the upcoming conference season.

bone plays small and quick, outside shooters.
we all saw how morrison became irrelevant during the second half of last season.

We need the ability/option to put a big man on the likes of Qvale/Selvig from UM, Morris from WSU, Mbunga from MSU, etc.

Yes, our tempo and lineups are what you describe, but we can (and probably will) find ourselves in game/foul situations where we need a big body in the paint, and we just don't have it.

it would be great if he chose to give up his scholarship

It wouldn't matter if he gave up his schollie for this season since we wouldn't be able to bring anyone in. This hurts. We already saw how soft we are in the middle. And I don't agree that Morrison was irrelevant last year. He was a defensive anchor and was a huge contributor to the team's success last year.

Hopefully he can stay at PSU and get academically qualified and play next year.

This will be a huge challenge for the team to rally around. C'mon Viks!

I meant for next year's recruiting purposes. There's got to be a big man out there who can handle a JC workload.

Perhaps that was too strong a word. I'm just trying to say defense comes in small bodies as well.

Remember this game?

You're right. Some games Scott was a no show. But even this game if you look at his line, he had 3 blocked shots. On his off games he still was a great presence inside. He holds the school record for blocked shots.

Is there no chance that Visockis will be back?

I think we are a different team than we were last year. It was nice to have Morrison in the middle but it was the team that won the big sky last year. The viks are a full court team and the win over UP shows that they can beat quality teams that have the traditional big men. I am not worried about the viks taking the big sky again. I hope that Viscockis can eventually play for the viks. I don't think he makes or breaks our chances this year.

I don't think he makes or breaks our chances, either, but post depth is a concern for me. If Jones or Thomas get hurt, then we basically have Coston playing center.

Post depth is absolutely an issue. They simply can't match up with the 6'10"+ guys, and we're going to see them more as the season progresses. There's not much you can do at this point, but bringing in a guy like Louis Lee just to be physical with the taller guys for 5-8 minutes per game might help. Julius Thomas is good at making himself bigger, but can't compete with the more talented centers.

It just means Louis Lee or Mara could get some minutes in the post if Jones and Thomas are in foul trouble.Jones is of to a great start 12 points 8 boards almost 2 blocks a game so far.He also seems to be more consistent than Scott was last year.Thomas was solid off the bench last year and so far this year.I believe 5 boards in 15 minutes a game.I am not so worried, yet.

I really wish that both of the past two games versus lesser opponents were blowouts so we could have seen some more of Lee. Not on the offensive end, as I have no hope in that, but on the defensive end. Like WiViking said, we may need a key 5-8 minutes in some games this year.

I'm not sure Scott can hear you, with championship rings stuck in both of his ears.........(with apologies to Patrick Roy).

Sure wish we had the Big Sky Defensive player of the year - Scott Morrison - back for this year. We really miss his presence in the middle.
