Down to Five for the WAC!

Until we get a DI appropriate gym/arena and a stadium with permananet bathrooms we aren't going anywhere. Plus, we average 680 to a bball game and 6,800 to a football game, hardly the numbers to sustain a FBS program.

I believe our poor attendance is directly linked to our sub-par facilities. As a fan, if you go to a college event you want to be part of a college atmosphere. The facilities we currently have (although football is improving) scream high school - and thus high school atmosphere.

Numerous people on this board have posted pictures of new stadiums at JMU and Liberty - these are programs that are focuses on being successful and competitive in their current status. We need Wanless to make some serious progress - properly represent Sac St!

Definitely disagree about the football facilities...I watched the Mountain Lions game on Versus last Saturday and I can't tell you how many times the announcer said the facility was beautiful

The new field, The BAC and The Well are fantastic! The stands, press box, concessions and restroom facilities - HORRIBLE!

Has anybody else noticed that since Gonzalez received the vote of no confidence from the faculty a few years ago he has basically disappeared? At the beginning of his tenureship, Gonzalez was very vocal and a downright visionary for Sac State, ever since that vote, poof, he is gone.

Couple that with Wanless tossing out resumes and it paints a picture of an executive team that is fractured, hunkered down until retirement and is assuming the traditional role of Sac State president's; apathetic and waiting for retirement from the CSU golden goose nest egg.

I wouldn't say that at all. They are very much out and about. I know it might be difficult to see since you are in Carolina, but out here in the front lines, that's not the case.

The what happened to the vision of "Destination 2010"? The only thing the athletic department has seen in the Wanless / Gonzo era is the BAC - and the field turf but you can thank the ML's for that. Where is the area (or even larger gym), the new football stands? Baseball receive BS stands without a needed press box - they are still WAY behind their peers. The baseball feild house is like a shed.

I agree, they don't seem to push a vision or agenda any more!

Check the story in the State Hornet about 'critics' wanting to know where the $25M Gonzo raised is being used, because according to the story it was not used for the Well.

http://www.statehornet.com/news/critics-question-funds-for-the-well-1.1653415

My redflag with the story is, what mortgage on the BAC? I thought Gonzo said the $12M BAC price was paid from the $25M he raised. Paid in full. The remaining $13M should be sitting in escrow collecting interest until the Event Center is built.

Why is this becoming such an issue, if I was Gonzo why not come clean and itemize where the money is/was spent. And what will be done with the remaining money.

Yes, I am in Carolina and dont see Gonzo and Wanless walking to the roundhouse daily for their coffee, but the detective in me says something is rotten and it isnt fish.

A hunkered down president and an AD looking to get out, maybe before something is exposed?

I think the persistent state budget issues have more to do with it than anything. And we are all at the mercy of Arnold the legislative goons.

Wow, that's about as far from the truth as possible...you are making giant assumptions based on partial truths, and that's how rumors get started.

You actually blame Wanless for applying for the AD job at Georgia? That's a top-20 job in the country that doesn't open up every day. Get real man.

Thats the one we are aware of. As I've said before, no, I dont blame him for applying for a button pushing rideoff into the sunset job at Georgia. If Sac State was poised for athletic growth and Wanless is a career AD, I'd just assume that being part of something substantial being built is better than taking over a program that is on cruise control. At least that is how I view it.

Wanless has been a non-factor in facility growth, so losing him isnt that important. He has done a good job with the Olympic sports, but those are really irrelevant when it comes time to pay the bills.

Best way to prevent rumors is to be transparent and forthright. Misleading the students (taxpayers) and alumni (supporters) isnt the best PR approach to getting something done.
