Ducks require we move up.

As long as we remain a I-AA/FCS team, the Ducks won't even play us anymore. For whatever reason (East Coast Bias?), they strongly believe that playing any more I-AA/FCS teams hurts their BCS hopes and ranking. Other I-A teams will continue to schedule I-AA teams, but as far as the Ducks are concerned, they are playing the BCS ranking issue conservatively, unlike Oregon State---now that's a switch!

From now on, the Ducks will schedule only lesser FBS teams for tune-up games, like Central Michigan. If we wish to play them, as JG has envisioned, alternating games yearly with UO and OSU, then our hand is forced: The Ducks require that we move up to FBS to play the in-state round robin.

I think this will good for us and good for Oregon.

Moving up to FBS to reflect our patriotic duty to the state. If Boise State can do it, we can do it.

I do view BSU as a model to shoot for, along with schools like Louisville and Cincinatti, but let's not forget that BSU didn't have to compete against two in-state BCS schools for attention and money. Getting to BSU's level would be far more difficult for PSU than it was for the Broncos.

True, and not to mention BSU has far more support within their state then PSU will ever have.

Well, that explains why Oregon signed a home-&-home deal with Wyoming for games in 2012 and 2013.

Win the Big Sky, get people into PGE, get on local television, then the Portland Market will be a huge attractors to conferences. Lets look at all the other west coast cities, Seattle (UW) Bay Area (Stanford Cal) San Jose, Fresno, LA, San Diego, Pheonix, even Boise all have 1A teams. I would say Portland and Sacramento are the only Pacific Markets without a BCS team in their city, PSU has an oppurtunity if they pursue it over the next decade.

We'll be able to say we were there fromt the begining.

GO VIKS

The TV market is PSU's ace in the hole. The potential for a large fan base is big, we just have to realize it by putting people in the seats.

You know what would help Oregon's BCS hopes?

Not going 7-6.

I've lived in Oregon for most of my life and have watched their program grow, and I have this to say.

Oregon can go F themselves. I'd rather PSU not play them

I went to all three PSU D1A games last year and met some really neat people. People that don't scoff the fact that they are playing PSU. People that look forward to a game between the Portland Urban University and their own school. People that understand the ins and outs of the different sub-divisions of division 1 college football. People that don't forget the past and think that their program is so elite that they shouldn't be compared to anything other than a top tier program.

Be humble and remember where you came from UO supporters. This is why they will never be able to take the next step into greatness, no matter how much money Knight pumps into them...

Excellent post. In many ways, UO is all hat, no cattle.
