Dylan Orms thread

First, I like Dylan Orms and I like Seth Lobato.

Just wanted to say thanks to Dylan for keeping a cool head & staying positive for the team, even when he didn't get the nod as starter, and for being ready Saturday when his number was called. As the story below says, he did just about everything he could to push UNC to a win.

I happened to see the Denver Post at breakfast - not something that happens every day, and there's a great article on Dylan today. Yep, UNC was the front page of the printed sports section because of Dylan's performance as backup.

Here's a classy comment about his competition by the player-elected team captain:

"To see a player go down, it kills you because you know how hard those guys work," Orms said. "I know how much it means to him to get his first start. It wasn't something I wanted to see happen."

And from the Trib, nice quote on Orms from Quentin Hildreth who was pressed into service (making his first collegiate TD) after running back David Deans went out with an injury:

[Orms] ... played well in relief of Lobato and nearly pulled off a victory for UNC when he drove the team 72 yards in 13 plays, leading to a 25-yard field goal by Dave Eden with 1:10 remaining in the game. It gave the Bears a 20-19 lead.
His teammates had all the confidence in the world that Orms could get the job done.
“I have a lot of confidence in this guy (Orms). I have a lot of confidence in all the quarterbacks,” Hildreth said. “He came in confident and gave us a big boost. He told us ‘you guys be ready because I’m ready.’ So we just followed him.”

So are you implying Orms should start because he is a nice guy? I'm missing the point of your thread? Orms should not start in my opinion. Again, he had his shot last year and only completed 52% of his passes and again on saturday completed 50%, which is consistent with last year. 50% is unacceptable at any level even high school. Time for UNC to move forward.

Not sure where you get this from. All I see is people giving Orms credit for being really classy in an interview a (as well as Hildreth's comments about Orms and ALL of the QB's).

Nope. I am implying that Dylan Orms took the high road when he lost his spot to Seth Lobato, and continued to practice hard, be ready, stay classy and be a leader for the team.

Which is a good thing.

Both Quentin Hildreth and Orms turned in solid performances as backups. I'm giving Orms a nod of approval for who he is, regardless of who the starter is. Just shows you always have to be ready, because you never know how or when the game will call for you.

And I thought Orms kept his comments to the point as a team player, and did not belittle Seth at all, or build up his own efforts. Good teams have to have depth, and apparently we have a solid guy at #2 spot QB. The teams respects him. He's a good guy. That's all. I put in its own thread so it wouldn't be misinterpreted as a "seth vs dylan" argument, but oh well, read it any way you want to.

It must be tough to be a senior and lose your spot to a younger player. Dylan is handling this well, and I wanted to acknowledge that.

I see it this way Brian, Orms made the same type of nice comments about Lobato when it was announced last week that Lobato was the starter, yet a separate thread wasn't created then about what a great guy Orms is. And I think Orms is a great kid don't get me wrong. But I view this thread as a soapbox for Saturday's game.

Well, in that case, let's go back to disparaging our coaches instead of complimenting a player for his leadership and poise. Just felt like a positive thread was warranted, no soapbox included.

Fair enough....

All that is great, and I would hope that all the players show class on and off the field. Unfortunately, we still lost the game. I still think Dylan should have been aware of the clock on the 3rd down, and not gone out of bounds. These are fundamentals that are lacking and needed to put "W's" on the board. I hope the coaches take some of the responsibility for this 2 minute offense and find ways to win!!!!

Agreed, that was a rookie type mistake.
