Dylan Zylstra in yesterday's game

Dylan Zylstra represented Eastern football poorly during the UM game. First, blatantly shoving Jordan Johnson down after the whistle was blown, then instigating a fight later in the game. In both cases, the team was penalized. It was especially infuriating when Zylstra drew the second flag, because it brought us back from a big penalty vs Montana and gave the other team a first down.

Don't get me wrong, I love the intensity of our players and want them to be fired up every game. However, Eastern players giving cheap shots after a whistle makes us look bad as a program. I hope the coaches are taking corrective measures for these actions.

Really? So you think he was trying to hit Johnson late, not just pushing the first maroon jersey he saw after being engaged with a blocker and Johnson being smart enough to flop?

Oh, and based on your post I'm also guessing you'd be such a pussy you'd lay there while an opposing O-lineman kicked you in the ribs and not be at all fired up afterwards. He made the mistake of motioning the call was on the Griz in front of the umpire when the umpire was calling the personal foul on the Griz lineman. That's not taking a cheap-shot, jackass.

You, ma'am, are a douche of the biggest order. Way to start a cheap ass thread on a four year player that's done nothing but lay it out every week for EWU. This shit gets me fired up. You know nothing...

The 2nd one was not a fight, it was for taunting. Pretty sure he got chopped and looked pissed. Dylan signaled it against the Griz once...maybe twice, but the last time he did it was blatant. Don't blame him for being fired up but I agree it was an unnecessary and costly penalty.

You need to calm down.

Pushing any player in the back after a play for no reason just isn't okay. I might have gotten the details incorrect in the second call, but I was told he was instigating a fight with a UM player.

Thank you, I guess I got the second call incorrect. That makes me feel better. I still didn't feel good about the shove in the back. Throughout my time at Eastern, I've always appreciated how the players conduct themselves on the field. Typically, I haven't seen individuals do things blatantly after the whistle.

I'm sure the coaching staff will address this but as was stated in the other thread, JJ dove when he felt contact and made it look really good (smart on his part) and that 2nd call against Zylstra was pure BS. I said so at the time. Dylan was getting kicked while on the ground by the UM player that drew the call and he was rightfully pleased that it was called. So what? I didn't see the refs throwing a flag when the d-lineman was standing over VA and woofing or when Tripp was getting all up in people's faces. As the commentators said, it's a rivalry game, huge emotions and the refs should have taken that into account on that second call. :twocents:

My mistake on the second call. As you said, I looked at previous threads to see what happened and I stand corrected. Zylstra's reaction was justifiable.

I won't calm down. You were wrong and you're smearing a great kid. You were "told"??!! Did you watch? He didn't cheap shot Johnson. He pushed and Johnson flopped.

On the second flag, he was getting kicked by a 310 lb lineman while lying on the ground. That's him starting a fight?!

Nice job, Jones....

I'm not really comfortable with us in the peanut gallery being overly critical over performance on the field. Being on that field, in that environment... it brings out a different level in you, trust me.

Dozy, aside from name calling, is pretty much right. Lets not act like griz fans or paul wulff and deride our own players.

Fair enough. The moderators can delete this thread if they like. Or leave it up. Obviously, I'm in the wrong here.

You need to look at this play again ... Shove in the back? After the whistle? You make it sound like he came out of nowhere, wound up for several steps and blind sided him. Z was engaged, came off his block and made contact with JJ after he had delivered the ball. JJ flopped like a fish out of water and got the call. Nothing dirty and nothing after the whistle. Frustrating but not something to castigate the kid for ...

Not going to delete the thread, but respectfully disagree with the OP. I don't think the first call was really intentional, and as someone else mentioned the second one was BS.

I'll go back and look at the call. It seems as if I'm in the wrong here from the reactions of several fans. Sorry Eagles.

No worries, I just think if you go back and watch both calls again you might have a different opinion.

It might be b.s. but when you hand gesture it's against the other team multiple times, right in front of the ref, it's gonna get called every time in every stadium. Again, I understand the situation and emotions, but the refs are simply not gonna be upstaged in that scenario.

Now, since we're all good here , how about I hijack this thread with something more consequential...

Black helmets and the all whites????? YOWZA!!! Kalm likey!

How bout white helmets and all whites. Been saying it for years and those mockups look absolutely sick. Just like I imagined.

the late hit was just getting caught up in the heat of battle it didnt seem "intentional" to me at all but just a split second mistake. i couldnt even see what happened the other time that he was flagged because they didnt show the play on tv.

Also wouldn't mind seeing white helmets, red jerseys, and white pants.
