Oct 16 at Northern Colorado
Oct 23 Sacramento State

2009: 8-4
2008: 6-5

Assuming this is a regular season record, I say we go 8-3, with a loss to Nevada, a split with the Montana schools, and one other loss to either Sac State, Weber, or NAU. Or who knows, we could win all of those and lose to a PSU or UNC, although highly unlikely. That said, every game on or schedule is winnable outside of the Nevada game. We return a good chunk of our defense, much of our O-Line, and have some very promising young receivers. Couple that with the fact that we have Buchanan Award favorite LB JC Sherritt anchoring the defense and Payton Award candidate Taiwan Jones in the backfield to help out talented transfer QB Bo Levi Mitchell in what should again be one of the best offenses in FCS, and the Eags should be in contention for a conference championship and another playoff birth. I think anything less than an 8-3 record and playoff birth for this team will be a dissapointment.

Not too far off, and glad I was wrong! :D

Weberwildcat, since it was undoubtedly you who picked us to finish 5-6 - question. How can you possibly pick us to finish so low with the amount of talent and experience this team has returning?

i picked 8-3 as well. my pick was based on the assumption that hte new QB is gonna be legit. weber has a decent conf schedule with UM and EWU in Ogden. If UM is the usual it should be a tight race for 2nd and 3rd.

Crap, I was sure it was you. ;) I agree, it should again be a tight one. UM will always be the pre-season favorites, but I think EWU, MSU, WSU, NAU, and Sac State all have a legitimate shot of making a play-off run.

I'm going out a limb here. I'm a little worried about the defense but i think the offense will light it up and will be very hard to stop. Only loss: Nevada.

is sac really supposed to be good in 2010? i haven't done a lot of research but i assume wsu, ewu, msu, nau should all be good.

IF, we can play DEFENSE this year, I dont see why 10-1 isn't a real possibilty ! There needs to be a sense of URGENCY on D everygame ! It would be a crime if the Defense can't come up big this year ! There's something crazy in the koolaid in Cheney this year, and it's ALL GOOD !!!! GO EAGS !!!

Sac has been steadily getting better year after year. Their win against NAU last year was no fluke. I think they'll be very competitive, but I think they're still a year or two out from being in contention for the Conference title.

Like Screamin' said, their program is on the rise. They're picked as one of the "Dark Horses" in FCS this year. They could upset some teams in the BSC this year. That being said, I agree that they still might be a year or two away from challening the top 3 or 4 in the conference. Although I think their coach and administration have them heading in the right direction, I won't completely buy into the Sac State hype until they start winning more games. We shall see.

I haven’t posted here much but it looks like this site is showing signs of life.

Sac State returns all of its skilled position guys on offense and 2 of 5 OL starters. Our QB will probably be MBT as Jason Smith retired due to chronic injuries. The biggest addition has to be Hilliard at RB as he was redshirted last season due to shoulder surgery last offseason.

Our defense was god awful last season but we return 3 of 4 starters from our secondary all of our LB’s (with the exception of one leaving as he has his degree and wants to move on with his life) and I think 2 of 4 starting DL starters, most notable is DT Christian Clark (BSC sack leader). Also Coach Sperbeck installed a new DC so I am hoping the defense will show more aggression and actually be able to make some mid-game adjustments.

I have to say it’s almost a now or never year for Sac State as offensively, we will lose a lot at WR and QB after the 2010 season. Sac State also just installed new turf and there seems to be a lot of excitement around the program. I am definitely looking forward to this football season; it should be an interesting one.

Welcome SDHornet to the board. This sight is indeed picking up steam but we need more fans from other teams on here putting in their 2 cents so don't be a stranger. As you can see, EWU fans show alot of respect for Sac State and truly believe that they are turning the corner to be a contender. Go Eagles!!!

Good to hear. I've been lurking over at the other BSF boards the last couple days. I was pleasantly surprised every other team's fans have been using theirs.

Glad to finally get ours going a little bit. :)

Im not trying to sound like a Montana fan here but Sacramento has been called the Dark Horse for the last like 5 years, and have yet to live up to those expectations.

Until they actually do it, Im out on Sacramento State, not saying I wouldnt mind them being a top competitor in the conf.

Its going to be a race between Montana, Montana State, Eastern Washington, Weber State and maybe NAU

It'll be the usual suspects for the conference race, but I do think Sac has an off chance to at least be in contention. I think all of the following are very likely to happen.

1.) Conference play will be more competitive this year. Championship will be shared by 2 or more teams that have at least one conference loss, maybe more. Even Montana will not escape conference play without a blemish.
2.) BSC gets three teams in the play-offs. Montana, then two of the following: EWU, MSU, NAU, WSU.

Sac State has definitely not been the Dark Horse the past 5 years, but I saw someone giving us that label last season, and it played out fairly well, specifically in the NAU upset. I'm not sure we can claim the Dark Horse label after last season. I can't imagine any BSC teams overlooking the Hornets. However if people want to overlook us and label us the Dark Horse, I won't stop them. ;)

And that's the beauty of being in the BSC come playoff time. :D hopefully the Hornets can grab one of those bids this season.

Yeah. You could easily throw Sac in the list as well. We'll just have to see how it plays out I guess.

I'd almost replace Weber with Sac on that list. With the graduation/temporary departure of Smith and Bolen, Weber's backfield is going to be green and I see a lot more passing and subsequent bad decisions for Higgins in 2010.
