• Hi Guest,

We've updated the site to combine all the forums that were part of the Big Sky Fans Network into one location. This will make it easier to navigate and participate in all the discussions for each school without having to have multiple accounts, etc. We are still working out some tweaks but please let us know if you notice anything.

With the migration, in some circumstances, your username could have been merged with one of your other usernames from the other forums. If this is the case, you can request to change your username in your account details page of your profile.

Transfer Portal

The portal is full of players again this year and more will be added as teams finish their play. The fall entry period is over, but there will continue to be entrants as things wind to the spring portal entry period, April 16 to 25. Players can commit or sign at any time they want. However, I would think that a high percentage of those in the portal now are seeking to be at their new school for spring practices.

Teams, on the other hand, would like to have the majority of their teams roster built before the spring practices begin. Also, I think it is fair to say that most coaches will want to have some spots open for impact players available between spring and summer camp. It might get a little spicey if you don't have a complete roster by June. I can't imagine there would be much left in the portal by then, at least not the quality you were looking for.

Weber had 7 graduating seniors and lost 13 to the portal. We signed a few in the early period and have accepted the commitments of a couple of portal players so far. Just my WAG, but I would expect another 5 or 6 transfers over the next couple of weeks and that we sign another 10 to 15 HS recruits in February's signing period. I would think we would keep 1 or 2 spots open for anything after that. We could also have a few out transfers in April, you never know.

We still have a young, but solid group of returning players. Let's hope that our coaches can find that winning recipe for next fall. I still think they can get it done.

Respect your opinion, love your optimism, but am in disagreement with you. The program is in free fall. The team is terribly coached and made same if not more mistakes at the end of the season. With next year’s schedule, I don’t see the Wildcats winning more than three games.

I'm certainly not predicting anything here. Too much is up in the air like you are saying. You can certainly predict doom and gloom if it makes you feel better. Maybe that is how it will turn out, I certainly don't have a crystal ball. This coaching staff's jobs are on the line. I have to think they will do the best that they can to get things turned around. Either they will or they won't. Either way, I'm still a Wildcat fan.

I’m not predicting gloom and doom because it makes me feel better. I’m just not into deluding myself…we have seen enough evidence to realize Mental is not a great coach. His bad decisions cost 3-4 games this year. His teams were lining up offside on a field goal in game 11. The winning culture and discipline set by Hill is long gone.

With how little Weber State cares about its football and basketball programs, I’m not sure Mental is gone after year three even with a lousy season because the administration doesn’t want to do the buyout for the last year. I half expect a year to two extension for Duft if the Wildcats basketball program finishes over .500.

I’m still a Wildcats fan. Hell, I went to games under the 1-10 Graybeal era 2-10 Sears era. I still go to occasional basketball games under the last eight ho hum years. I hope the coaches succeed, but am not going to polish a turd for them either when their performance sucks.

Honestly, I feel for coaches today under this portal and NIL system. I have definitely gone to less games because I honestly don’t care to watch players who really are more self-absorbed and could care less about the team as a whole…it’s a far cry from my day. I’m sure it’s tough to coach these type of kids, too, but that’s today’s world of college athletics.
