Early Season Predictions

The homer in me says 11-1
The realist says 10-2
A few bad breaks takes us to 9-3 worst case.
Go Eagles!!

I hope the homer or realist come true, I think we finish 8-4 or 9-3. We are most likely going to be underdogs in 6 of our 12 games this year (OSU, Toledo, Sam Houston, UM, Cal Poly, and UND) so it will be an interesting season....

With this schedule, I'd be very happy with a 9-3 regular season record. That would most likely mean losing only one game in our Division. Still don't like the DII game.

Can someone please explain to me why Cal Poly is thought to be so good this season? I have seen more people buying into them than just about anyone else in the conference. Don't get me wrong, I respect them tremendously and I believe they'll be a very tough opponent for us this season, but I really think they'll struggle to finish in the top 3 of this conference this season! I really believe that Montana State, EWU and maybe Montana (hopefully not) will be better teams than Cal Poly. :twocents:

They return like 19 starters from a 9-2 team. Although those two starters lost were their starting QB and RB.

Well those would arguably be the two toughest to replace, not to mention they had about the easiest conference schedule last year of anyone at the top.

Our Non-Conf is crazy difficult and we could easily go 1-3, hopefully we come out at least 2-2, but that will be tough.

We will make or break our season in a 4 game stretch where we play at Montana, at ISU, host MSU and then at Cal Poly. We need to come out of that stretch at least 3-1 and if we do, we are fine.

Unless we win the conference this year, we probably won't be seeded in the playoffs, and given MSU's cupcake conference schedule I think they are the front runners to win the conference. I do think if we make the playoffs this year we will be a really, really tough out.

If we pull an upset or two in our early games then everything I said above could change.

Hoping for 10-2, but realistically I think 8-4 with a playoff bid.

MSU and EWU play the same teams in: Weber State, North Dakota, S Utah, Montana. 50%
MSU vs. EWU=60% same
UC Davis > Idaho State
Northern Colorado> Portland State
Northern Arizona = Cal Poly

Looks to me like the cupcake CONFERENCE schedule is EWU's more than MSU's. Now granted, your out of conference schedule is much tougher, hope EWU comes out of that in good shape, after MSU, EWU is the best rep. of the Big Sky through my blue glasses.

I'm not sure that Northern Arizona is better than Cal Poly ir that UNC is better than PSU. Hell, one could even make the argument that ISU could be better than UC Davis this year.

Great point, I suppose you never know who is going to surprise most people. Atleast it is more entertaining that way, hope the Eagles have a good season and beat the hell out of the Cubbies.

I'll look at each teams 4 toughest conference games.

1.) We each play the Griz, we play in Missoula you play in Bozeman. - More Difficult for EWU

2.) You can call Cal Poly and NAU a wash but we play Cal Poly on the road, you get NAU at home - More Difficult for EWU

3.) We both play UND on the road - Equal

4.) We play each other, but MSU comes to Cheney - More difficult for MSU.

Neither team should lose the other four games they play so I am not concerned with those. Good luck to MSU this year, except when you play EWU. DM has been a great QB for you guys and I'm sure he will have a great senior year.

As usual, I'll be pulling for both MSU and EWU to beat UM. Every time I start to feel like U of M maybe letting their bloated ego's come back to reality, Egriz proves me wrong. Talk about a collection of morons... :ohno:

Good luck to MSU this season, except on November 9th, can't wait for that game!!

P.S. Hey grizhunter, is your Big Sky Championship tally on your signature updated with one less for the Griz?

Yes it is, although I felt kind of shitty doing that, but it reflects the record book so, what the hell!

Regardless of the conference slates, Eastern's schedule is light-years ahead of Montana State's in terms of difficulty. I think you'd be hard pressed to find any FCS team with a worse schedule than Eastern's, playing a team from the top 1/3 of the Pac-12, the top 2 or 3 of a much better MAC, last year's FCS finalist Sam Houston State.... and all on the road. 7 road games in total. Plus, we have an early bye week and play the entire conference schedule without a week off. At this level, you really couldn't construct a tougher schedule if you tried...

Wasn't looking at it that way, the way I should have been, thanks.
I am an idiot, they have 18 BSC titles with the loss of the 2011. Glad you asked, much better than a fizzle telling me!

I hear ya on the bye week. EWU hasn't lost a regular season game in November since 2008, having a late season bye week can really help you finish strong, but we did do ok last year with an early bye week. This year having the bye between Toledo and SHSU may help us, playing those two back to back could have been a killer. With 2 FBS games on the scheduling having a early bye may help heal up some of those injuries...

I have never understood why people assume why people believe that we are more likely to sustain injuries when playing against FBS opponents. I don't believe that to be true and would be interested in seeing some data that supports that.

I doubt there anything to support it in terms of numbers because it is a myth. Football is football. I'd be willing to bet we get more injuries historically playing teams like Weber State, PSU (chop block pros), and Montana than we do in the majority of our FBS games.

Guys who are bigger and faster hit much harder. FBS schools typically have kids who are bigger and faster. Plus, unless you get rolled, you have to play the same guys all game long while FBS teams get to rotate in more schollie athletes.
