Early Signing Period

First ever early signing coming up for football. Schools can sign players December 20-22, and then again in February.

I feel that this is a good move for football. At the FCS level, coaches can keep an eye out for players who fell through the cracks in the P5 recruiting and go after them for the February signing. It may well pay off to keep a few spots open for that sort of thing.

Of course, we can expect most JC kids to sign early to enroll in spring semester.

I think that most coaches around the country will expect to fill over 80% of their spots in the early signing.

Does anyone know where we stand in this years recruiting class?

I can't find anything about possible signings. Hein found a couple on twitter a while back. One a tall receiver signed just before the season began and then another kid committed in October. Brett, do you have any additional information? Best way to deal with the forum is to keep communicating. Your attendance article is in the past. Most of us are over it and just want to talk sports. This is definitely a Mecca for Weber State chat (same can be said to Garside).

In all fairness to Wildcat and 02, Garside had just made an absolutely idiotic statement on twitter and probably needed to be slapped.

Signing starts in the morning. We don't seem to have as much hype about it as most schools. I don't know if that is a good or bad thing. Anyway, I haven't heard of any sort of signing party. Does anybody know if there will be one now, or do we wait for February?

The only thing to come out of the coaches is that it is panning out to be a great year, with all of the recognition we have received by doing well in the post season. I think that a lot of kids look favorably on getting a real chance at a National Championship. :coffee:

At yesterday's luncheon, Coach Hill mentioned not to expect a very big class. We don't have that many scholarships available. He also said they were trying to be very selective and were mostly recruiting players at just a handful of positions (QB, TE, DE, DT, DB). Any other players would have to be very talented to land a spot. I doubt we will hear much about early signings.

It is never, really about the numbers, it's all about the quality of the players. Football is a team sport, but we all know that the quality of one or two players can put an already good team over the top. Right now, we don't need large numbers, or anybody really, but a few quality guys can be really big for us. Heck, if it was the right guy, one player could make a huge difference. The difference between being the number 5 team in the Nation and the number 1 team.
