My name is Steve Miller. I have a son on the team named Stephen Miller..#87 WR So. I have a point here so please Bear with me......
Several days before my son played in the UC Davis game he got word that one of his dear friends (team mate) from his high school football playing days took his life. He was a college football player at Baker University........his name was Sionne Maumau. Through the remainder of the week following his death leading up to the UC Davis game my son, as he always does, sought relief within his band of brothers called UNC Football. As a tribute to his fallen team mate I asked my son to Score a TD for Sieonne.....he delivered....and as he under handed spiked the ball sending it spinning (flagged as well) he pumped his chest......and within his mind said this one is for Maumau.
Now my point..........Collins has created the best atmosphere in college for its players. My son has never had a single day of regret choosing UNC over Multiple FBS offers. Collins has made my son a better human being, a better student and most of all my son has enjoyed the fellowship of all players before him and those currently with him. My son has always been treated exceptionally well and I wish to thank Coach Collins, the coaching staff, and my sons position coach, Mr. Keith Grable for there dedication to my son and all players associated with the program.

I support Collins and the coaching staff, and as always my son will continue to be Proud to call himself a...............UNC Bear Football Player. Go Bears.....let's win out..............Steve Miller

Awesome story. I enjoy watching Steven play. Playerparent...where are you?

That was a great story NCBearDad and really nice to hear the positive side of Collins and his staff. Go Stephen Miller and Go Bears.

Steve Miller here and I currently hail from the shores of South West Florida. Lived in Colorado for 19 years. Recently returned to Florida where my children were born to assist ailing parents.

I feel fortunate that my son attends UNC and after every home game I attend I always marvel at the fellow players that come over and visit with me on the field.

Great Team, Great Comradery, Great Campus.........and my son loves the coaching staff.......I'll be there the last game of the season to support our seniors. They have all been so good to my son!!

I just thank God I have a son..........

I was referencing a poster named "Playerparent" who only comes on here to criticize the coaching staff. He is certain that EVERY player on UNC's football team hates Collins.

I knew exactly what you were referencing and let you open the door...........which is why I will say this....

We all had a right to choose were our children were going to go to college. I helped guide him and my son made the right choice.

My son and I only discuss what he can do on the field to enhance the program...........I suggest we all do the same..............

That's a great story NCBearDad. I applaud you and your son for your attitudes and the for the way you approach things. I don't think you will find any members of this board who do not support and pull for the kids each and every week. I think it's great that Collins and the coaching staff have made your son a better football player and student. Every coaching staff should be expected to do that. However, I will repeat what I have said before... As an alum, booster (minor as it may be), and a fan, I have right to expect the team to win and at least be competing for conference championships and if they aren't I have the right to demand better. The college football landscape is littered with player's coaches who did all those things right, but couldn't win consistently or at all. And quite frankly, Collins and the offensive staff (Grable being the one exception) couldn't coach themselves out of a wet paper bag. They need to go or this team will be mired in mediocrity or worse for the foreseeable future.

To clarify when I stated we should all do the same, I meant that as a parent of a player I encourage my son to engage his position coach, do his best for the team, encourage other players and most importantly respect his head coach and his coaching staff. My son doesn't like to loose however he doesn't wine to me about it. He would never tell me he disliked a coach. He has told me recently he enjoys and likes all the staff. He knows I have no tolerance when it comes to complaining as I have always told him that it's his job to break bread with all who come before him.

On the flip side I understand were 303 bear is coming from and he has a right to complain just like we all do, however I am optimistic that we win out. Go 500 in the Big Sky and 5 and 6 overall.

What no one talks about is the fact that only two starting players graduate on offense and five starters on defense with a former defensive starter returning from injury. I see hope!!

I see the Bears battling for a conference title next year....................Collins needs another year to allow the fruit to ripen................Just Remember That I said it First...............

Let me first commend you on instilling your son with wisdom and virtues to live by. Something that we need more of in the world ! But regarding your last paragraph, battling for a conference title and Collins needs one more year, you have to understand that most of us have been around here forever and we have all said, read and heard these same words for 8 to 10 years now, so please forgive us if we are a little short with our words and lack of patience. We all want the kids to win and succeed as much as everybody else. I too hope we can compete next year for a conference title and the year after and so on. We are reaching for answers everywhere, whether its coaching, money, recruiting, support, etc. Lets beat Weber
! Go Bears !!

I agree. The Bears are much improved this year and should finish 4-4 in the Big Sky. The Big Sky schedule next season is set up much better for a winning conference schedule, and we could possibly be a contender for the conference championship. I know I'm optimistic, but that's what fans and parents should feel. Go Bears! Beat Weber!

With all due respect to Mr. Miller and Steven, I hope your endearment and loyalty are rewarded. Everyone is entitled to opinion which should be based on your experiences.

Beardown, as for me since you asked, you can hang around and support the wrong man for the job and program all you want. Apparently, you are content with being less than mediocre and underachieve. Perhaps, that's the life you lead and that's cool...to each his own. I chose to take my ball and go home because I know if you are not a part of the solution, then you are part of the problem. I'm out!

WIth all due respect to all posters, I am surprised more people are not up in arms over this absolutely ridiculous show of poor coaching and leadership that has gone on all year long. I have watched and read everyone go on about this and that with the lineman and the WR or the RB or the this and the that.... It is the coaching. How can anyone, especially after today, think otherwise?

We are the most predictable team in the FCS. I think Little League coaches could do better than this. Who in their right mind has a QB run on third and whatever? What coach goes for it on 4th and goal instead of taking the points (i know, not today's game)... What coach sets themselves up for failure by going into a game and doing what every film already shows what we do? (run, run, pass on 3rd and whatever.....) and then we are 3 and out.....Or, immediately after putting together a successful series of plays, go back to what has not worked all year long, again.....It is insane....and we all know the meaning of insanity...doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results!

The fact is this team works far too hard to have leadership this poor. The fact is any other school would have done away with them a long time ago which begs the question, do we want to win? Does Kay Norton want the money this school is losing by the lack of ticket sales for home games? Does Dunn have any desire to build a winning football program? Most ADs would say yes because winning football programs build legacies. Legacies build other sports programs. Legacies build school enrollment. Football and Basketball have long supported many a university. Losing football programs don't do that. Talented football players don't desire to play for losing football programs.

Talented academic leaders desire to attend growing academic programs. They all feed each other.

It is not rocket science. You can't just throw money at it either. You must have a winning, talented coach who truly desires to win and will stop at nothing to accomplish it. Collins, unfortunately, is not that person. He has shown that.

He's on scholarship right? How many TD's did he have today... I just looked it up, Valor Christian... let's cut bait...

To the two posters above me,guys get some class. As a player parent , I like you have had a very definite opinion about our current head coach.that being said , I can say this in full confidence , Stephen Miller is a great receiver , a hard worker on and off the field, and one of the best citizen athletes on the team. With receivers , you are not in control of when or where you get thrown to. I watched the game yesterday via the internet, and saw Stephen make some great plays. I also saw the the fumble at the end zone. He ran a great rout , made a good catch, broke one or two tackles, and fumbled the ball on a blind side hit as he was fighting to get into the end zone. Guys please don't turn this mess onto the kids. They have the most vested into this team. Between school , studying, practice, film, and weights they put in regular 6 day a week , 12 hour days. I respect their dedication, and know they deserve our support.

I agree. Calling out Stephen Miller like that is classless. He is one of the Bears most consistent and reliable receivers. The definition of a possession receiver if you ask me. His play reminds me a little of Ed McCaffery. Solid receiver and works his butt off for this team. He deserves better than cheap shots like that.
