Eastern vs. Montana St. Game Day Thread

I know only this year matters, but can someone put in this thread what this series matchup has been like the last 20 years? I honestly can only remember MSU winning once, maybe twice since like 2012. One time the national championship year and then maybe once at Joe Albi. Does that seem right?

Go to schedule on the goeags site and then see "history" link. Here is the one for MSU. Eag's are 8-2 over the past 10 years and have won the last 7... Can't say before that.

I believe the overall record is something like 30-10. And I think we were only like 1-3 vs Montana State while D2 or lower, so basically in the neighborhood of 29-7 since the mid-80s. They won in 2010 and 2011 and haven't won since, although most of the games have been close.

It doesn't matter much as each year is different. Montana State knows they haven't done well against Eastern, and I'm sure they're itching to change that. I expect a totally healthy MSU full of confidence. This is a playoff game without actually being a playoff. Whoever loses this one isn't in a good spot for the remainder of the year, while whoever wins is fast-tracked into a playoff home game.

I figured we could lose one of the home games..UM, WSU and MSU and even UI, given the past, were going to be really good and we could stub our toe. Now that we stubbed our toe vs Weber this IS a playoff games for the playoffs...no doubt (same for MSU but we are HOME).

Win or lose of all the teams that may make the playoffs from the BSC...which could be 4...EWU is the team nobody wants to play. With MSU, UM, WSU you know what you are gonna get. EWU is unpredictable and unstoppable it's all how hot they get and they can get hot. Can't say a whole lot about UC Davis and Sac St although I've seen them play and they looked good specially SS but unable to peg them.

I expect quite different game than this but we will see.

All sorts of pre game talk in this episode, including a special appearance by former EWU sports information director Dave Cook

Dave Cook arguably did more for Eastern athletics than any other human being in the 21st century. He's top notch in every way. He was the biggest bridge in the gap between "Old School" and "New School" Eags. I hope he enjoys his retirement!

Looks like a good chance the game will be wet. How will that effect the game. Only positive retorts please..ha, ya bastards!

I am hoping for an epic battle, EWU has one of the most prolific offenses I have ever seen, MSU has the best defense I can remember us having, On the other side MSU's offense and Eastern's defense seem competent but underperforming a bit. Two totally different styles of teams clashing in a top 5 matchup with the winner likely getting a high playoff seed. Both teams coming of a bye week should be rested and close to full strength. I gotta say that our kicker just broke Jason Cunningham's freshman kicking record and I hope he will give the Cats the edge to tip the scales in our favor. I hope both teams come out of this one healthy and will win their final 2 games of the regular season. I have watched a lot of Big Sky football this year and I think hands down these are the top 2 teams.

Eat sh!t grizzlies; Go Cats Go

I hope the weather forecast proves false.

Does the new turf need "breaking in" to establish good footing on rainy days, chilly temperature traction differences?

Good question. Eag's did seem to slip the last time the field was wet. The weather I'm looking at shows about 7% chance of rain after noon. Likely rain mid morning though. mid teen's wind. Pretty normal Cheney weather this time of year. Big game today. Exciting!

The weather definitely looks to favor MSU’s style of play in this game. Hopefully we’ll pull some magic out the hat.
