Eastern Washington Thread

I am looking ahead to the Eastern Washington game because we can not afford to lose a conference game. I say this even though I know it is improbable that we we will go undefeated in conference play. None the less, losing in San Diego is OK if we can beat the Eagles in Cheney.

Two years ago the field at Eastern Washington was a muddy mess. Even without the heavy rain its a poor place to play. Has the turf there been improved?

I wish I knew, the viks have struggled up in Cheney in recent years. Also Eastern beat UC Davis so I am a little worried.

I don't care about SDSU, just don't get any more injuries and the game is a success.

EWU is looking pretty tough. I didn't know what to think about their game against Montana-Western since FCS teams should handle Pop Warner teams like they did.

The Davis win makes me wonder how good EWU is. Davis did not play well here in the first half. Not having seen the EWU/UCD game, I'm not sure what to think.

I'm pondering driving up for the game. That's six hours from Portland, right? Anyone made that trip?

Cheney is just south of Spokane. Six hours sounds right but its a lot of tumble weeds, sage brush and Junipers.

The way I see it if The Viks had played like they did against Sac St. they would have beaten Davis. Also, there has to be improvement since the O-line changes were new last Saturday. The comparison indicates that it will be a close game and might be worth the trip, even though the game atmosphere was pretty bland when I was there a few years ago.

The field's been pretty good from what I can tell. It should be a good game. I look for the Eags to get back to winning ways after last year's debacle.

I hope that the Eagles win every game after they play the Viks

I made that trip one year. I think it is about 6 hours. I stayed in Spokane and then drove down to Cheney. It was a close game but we lost. The stadium wasn't much then although they've remodeled since. The turf might be better.

Right now, we're not a very good team. Hopefully we keep improving and will be much better by the time we play EWU.

The remodeling isn't completely done - only the first stage is complete. Who knows when the rest will be done, but it calls for a lot more additional seating, field turf, and a few other things. The new press box/suites is really nice, however.

Looks much nicer! Although I am not a big fan of having running tracks inside of football stadiums. Maybe one year EWU can move the track out.

Only one Pac-10 team still has a track in their stadium. That is Washington. And they're planning on removing it. Even Boise State is removing theirs.

I'm in the same group, as I don't care for the track being around the football field within the stadium.

Regarding BSU... Are they going to remove it and lower the field for additional seating? I looked on their website, but the 2007 renovation only seem to be the suites and preferred seating that they are putting in. Check http://www.broncosports.com/ and it's the expansion project down on the right. A little five minute video of what they are doing...

The latest... and probably by no means the last...

Originally, the thinking was that it would be near impossible to lower the field. It's a bit too close to the river. There are concerns, as I understand it, about the water table and potential drainage issues.

THEN, someone came out and said it could be done, hence the second phase plans regarding lowering the field.

In the last few months, whomever said the field could be lowered has backtracked. What'll happen next? We don't know. I don't know if the new track stadium is on hold at this point. I doubt that they would complete the first phase and then tear it down to bring stands closer to the field, though you could argue that this could happen on the east side.

Eastern is not going to be getting that giant payday from the Seahawks every year to maintain facilities.... I wonder if things may become worse over the next few years!?

That's a diagram of the stadium as it looks now. The next few phases of the renovation add more seating on both sides of the field, field turf, and new scoreboards, I believe. Again, no idea when the rest of it will be complete. Probably when they get a huge amount of money from a generous donor.

Maybe Colin Cowherd should kick down some of those ESPN dollars to help foot the bill. :-)

Yeah, or maybe Rodney Stuckey.

I ****** hate Colin Cowherd, its sucks that he has any association with the city of Portland. At least he didn't go to PSU or U of O though.
