Eastern Washington Thread

Yeah. he is a choade. Anyways, Saturday's game should shape up to be a good one. Even at 3-0 I think it will basically be a must-win for the Eags since the following week we go into what should be the toughest part of our schedule (Montana, MSU, BYU) You gotta win your home games to have any chance of going deep in the BSC.

The drive only takes right around 5 hours and some change if you're going just to cheney. spokane is a little further. I highly recommend staying in the holiday inn express in cheney. i have yet to stay there, but it's defaintely the nicest of the two hotels in town.

I wish i could car pool up with some viking fans, but unfortauntely i have a wedding in Nor Cal I have to head to instead.

Thanks for the hotel information. I'm still on the fence about going at this point, but hopefully I'll make the trip.

I am looking ahead to the Eastern Washington game because we can not afford to lose a conference game. I say this even though I know it is improbable that we we will go undefeated in conference play. None the less, losing in San Diego is OK if we can beat the Eagles in Cheney.

Two years ago the field at Eastern Washington was a muddy mess. Even without the heavy rain its a poor place to play. Has the turf there been improved?

Says the fan who's football team plays in a softball stadium with a reputation for having the worst turf in the nation.

You guys can criticize our facilities and game atmosphere when you start out-drawing women's soccer (at least they're not afraid to play in a little mud). /users/31/07/37/smiles/595146.gif

Actually, just kidding. I'm feeling a little chippy tonight and didn't want to see you guys become as arrogant as griz fans, casting stadium smack from the ivory tower that is Wash. Grizzly Stadium. I went to my first game at PGE last year and thought it a really cool and different place to watch a football game.

Woodward Field is slow and can get muddy which may or may benefit certain teams. I for one, don't mind watching a sloppy, muddy slug fest. But I also believe that we have one of the best views of any stadium looking south over Turnbull National Wildlife Refuge and the northern Palouse. And btw, Colin Cowherd did make a donation for the press box upgrade. Plus, the tailgating scene has gotten quite good in the upper parking lot with lots of great parties and even some activities for kids.

This game should be very interesting with lots of points scored. We are young but loaded with talent offensively. Our D, however, looks shakey and gives up quite a few yards. We held ISU to 7 points by forcing 5 turnovers, but they still gained 400 yds on us.

Good luck this week, and safe travels to those of you making the trip up.

I'll give you the worst turf, but softball stadium? Come on now. ;-)

I think I read something (may have been in the Trib) that the surface at PGE will be replaced within the next two years. Hopefully it's sooner than later.

Nice to hear about the good tailgating going on up there. If I go, I'll definately ping you to see where to go.

Arrogant as Griz fans? Please. ;-)

I was at the timbers game last night, guys were falling on their ass all the time in the Northwestern most corner of the turf, maybe all the dirt left over from the beavers games?

I cant wait to see what they put in place of the turf at PGE. I personally liked playing on that fast turf but the rug burn is something you cant avoid.

Is a grass surface feasable? I think they should do the composite rubber fake grass stuff they got at the practice field at the stott.

I dont know aboout the Eastern Game. If Andy and TK are out that would be tough to overcome. It looks like Eastern could be good. Right now injuries to LBs and staff infection is killing the vikings D fense.

Eastern has some of that too - especially on the defensive side of the ball. I guess we'll have to see how thing shape up. One thing I am fairly certain of is that the Eagles can move the ball. QB Nichols is playing night and day from last year so far this season. Our defense is historically our weak area, but this year they have looked pretty good. The addition of Terry Mixon hasn't hurt, either. As he gets in better playing shape he should get more PT and present some real problem for oppossing teams.

If the injury problem wasn't hitting our defense so hard I would have the Vikings pulling this game out, but now its pretty much up in the air. I have to give Eastern the edge and the end of hope for a successful Viking football season this year. /users/31/07/37/smiles/426567.gif

We'll see. Even during our best years, we seem to make a habit of flushing a game or two down the crapper. One thing's for sure, we better come out ready to play, or we'll get smoked. Especially with the way your QB is throwing the ball.

Sounds like Wyoming, my team.

Would love to see a Eastern Washington @ Wyoming football game one of these days.

Man, we are banged up on the defensive side of the ball going in.

Brooks and Schantz will both be out and it sounds like our safeties are still not going to be 100%. Also, it sounds like McCrae isn't 100% either.

We're going to need some guys to step up at linebacker or it's going to be a long day out there on Saturday. There were a lot of passes last week to receivers who beat the weak side backer...

Nothing like worrying about a team we beat by 34 last year /users/31/07/37/smiles/426567.gif I hope JG can pick up the progress.

We lost to them two years ago in a mud bowl. BTW rain is predicted.

Will you guys quit making excuses about the rain and mud of a couple of years ago? Act like your from Portland for cripes sake. /users/31/07/37/smiles/595146.gif

BTW, I here there's been an irrigation malfunction that has flooded Woodward Field. And there is definitely rain in the forecast. Moowah ha ha ha haaaaaaaa. /users/31/07/37/smiles/17505923.gif

Our team practices on field turf. Mud isn't part of their repertioire. I don't think they mind the rain, but mud always changes the game.
