Eastern Washington vs Portland State - Thread

Always been somewhat of a struggle getting large crowds here on a consitent basis with crappy WSU an hour and a half down the road, but I'm sure you guys are all too familiar with that with UO and OSU.

Story of PSU athletic's life ;)

I hope the Viks wear what makes them look most energized in the Saturday weather. Green on white looks good in the rain. Need some white for visibility. The helmets need to be "gloss black" and look like old-styled gear-shirt knobs.

Good game Viking fans and good luck the rest of the way. Despite the score, I do think PSU is improved this year and your new coach has the program moving in the right direction.

Ugh.

Terrible crowd, terrible play, terrible day to be a Viking.

Ahh, maybe that's a bit harsh, but we ended up leaving prior to the end of the game.

The team seemed to come out flat, but the injury to CK sealed the deal early. This seemed much like late season games in the past two seasons.

Bad, bad, bad defense. I can deal with bad reads, but bad fundamentals is beyond frustrating. Arm tackling should not be tolerated. Look to EWU to see how to tackle. Those guys had some big hits tonight.

By the way, that freaking head hit by EWU tonight that was flagged, then pulled, was a bunch of BS. That was a head shot. Period.

Not sure if anyone deserved to get their logo back tonight.

Maybe those two late fourth quarter losses have taken the toll on morale. It sure looked like it tonight...

That one pissed me off for sure. Not a great day to be a Viking. The crowd sucked. Hardly any students. Not a great atmosphere at all.

I was in the student section last night, and it was embarassing, to say the least. We were able to fill one rooter bus. That's it. I have no idea where the students have gone in the past month, because they definitely didn't show up last night.

yeah I know they decided to order only 3 buses this week instead of the usual 5, and now we only filled 1? That's just sad. I was in the student section as well. It was embarrassing indeed. I hope the UNC game is better. you can tell a lot of our fans are not hardcore Viking fans, or they would have been there.

Marty, I've watched the call in question about 15-20 times, and while it was a vicious hit indeed, I'm not sure it was "targetting". The tackler keeps his helmet up the entire time. There might have been some incidental helmet to helmet contact in the tackle, but he definitely was not targetting.

I guess what pissed me off is that the official flagged it as if he'd had a bit to think about it, then it was called off.

All i know is i could hear that hit (literally) from almost the last row of the stadium. I couldn't tell if it was targetting or not, but it sure looked like it at the time, i was shocked when they called it off.

I can definitely understand that. That would piss me off too to be honest.

I know.....the first couple of times I watched it, I thought for sure it was targetting, no question. But then after a few times of watching it I noticed that the tackler never lowered his helmet. I honestly think it was just an epic hit - but it's one of those that could probably go either way. A few years ago you wouldn't think anything of it, but the way they are calling things these days...........

Sounds like my old high school.

The section was almost full when we played Idaho State. It was Freshman Frenzy then, so maybe that had something to do with it. Or, maybe it was the rain. Or, no one really cares. And, as a college with 27,000 students, filling just 1 rooter bus (maybe about 25-30 people in all) is just dowright sad.

What's interesting is that these students haven't seen bad games. We beat ISU. We NEARLY beat Montana. It was at least a good game. So it's not like they saw 2 crap games and decided to not come back. I always take the facebook event link and post it everywhere, try to promote the game and get people to come. Sure didn't help this week. What I'd like to do is get myself into all of the dorms (especially the more "traditional" ones) and post flyers on every. single. door. I'm actually extremely interested in increasing athletic support at PSU. Maybe I am on the wrong career path. Kinda too late right now, nearly halfway through my grad program. ;)
