Eastern Washington

The Weber State Wildcats face a a challenge this Saturday. The Eagles of Eastern Washington are one of the better teams in the conference, and they will play a much better game than Idaho. I do not know much about Eastern Washington, but I know that we will have an advantage in the paint with Braxton and Hill. Senglin will put up 20. The role players will continue to gain confidence and make shots, especially at home in front of a large Saturday night crowd.

We win 75-68.

Here is what I see as the difference between UI and EWU. EWU is bigger, but slower, better offensively, but worse defensively, and they are not as deep as UI.

I see a higher scoring game. We win 105 - 85. :coffee:

Expect a high scoring game. Hopefully our hot streak continues and we run the eagles out of our arena
Our shooters have really been hot, that will probably continue. However, I expect us to go inside a little more. If they try to double down, it should leave people open. The biggest thing for us is to stop their dribble drive and stay on their shooters. This is a lot like playing a bigger, slower Montana, a Montana that does not want to play D.

Montana beat them on their own floor. Once again, we don't have to play great to win. Our average game will get the job done. I expect what I always expect, intensity and confidence. Montana threw some D at them and they folded on their home floor.

Oldrunner's feeling bullish about the score! I hope we break 100, but I'm not predicting it.

I think you will be surprised by the EAGS. Jacob Wiley is very athletic and Bogdan Bliznyuk will be a matchup nightmare for your forwards. The EAGS will match you in three pointers. This game will go down to the wire.

GeldenEagle,

Eastern Washington will be a stiff test for Weber. I'm curious, what is your prediction for the game? I won't pretend to know a lot about the Eagle players, but I will concede that Eastern may have an edge at the three spot so long as Senglin isn't playing wing.

Bigs: Advantage Weber
Wings: Advantage Eastern Washington
Guards: Advantage Weber
Bench: Advantage Weber

Just glancing at the Schedule, Eastern Washington has some good pre-season wins and are 3-1 in conference. I am looking forward to going to the game tonight. I respect Eastern washington, but I am also confident we will come away victorious.

Junctioncat,

I really respect the Wildcats as they are always the measuring stick for all other Big Sky teams. I agree with your assessment but think the difference between an advantage or disadvantage between the teams is small. Although the EAGS are playing better defense this year they have struggled with athletic guards, especially when they drive to the basket. So I think that is going to be a key in the game. Senglin is going to get his points but the EAGS need to slow down your other guards.

I think our front court will play well against yours. Jacob Wiley is lightning quick in the key and gets to the rim really fast. The EAGS need to get the ball to him early and see how your bigs defend him. Wiley is a good passer and has been kicking the ball out to our shooters better as the season has progressed.

I think both teams are going to come out hot and the 3’s will be raining down. I hope the officials let the teams play aggressively and don’t kill the flow of the game. I really think the team with the ball last will win. Although I really enjoyed Senglin’s step back dagger that beat the griz a couple weeks ago, I do not want to see him with the ball with 20 seconds left in the game tonight.

So I will predict that Bliznyuk will drive and draw a double team opening up the lane for Wiley to throw down a game winning jam.

The game will be close for 5 to 10 minutes. The Cats will pull away by halftime and continue to pull away in the second half. There will be no need of last second heroics. :coffee:

Whoever said that EWU doesn't play good defense couldn't be more wrong. We are shooting only 20% on threes and 36% overall. They have completely stifled our guards. Blizniuk is the best all-around player in the BSC. He can play all 5 positions well. And Hill can't stop Wiley's scoring. Lets hope he does a better job in the second half. Their two big men are really good; quick and play under control with good shooting skill. Guards are just average... Take the ball to the hoop Weber and foul Bliznuk out.

Wow, exciting game! That Wiley is so quick and a phenomenal scorer. Hill and John came thru bigtime. I love John's aggressive nature. Cannon played 7 minutes in the first half and didn't see the court again. He was just overmatched. He is a good ball-handler but his lack of quickness is a real liability. I am thinking that he may not be back next year if that Texas point guard is as good as advertised they wouldn't need him. If not Cannon losing his scholarship, who then?

You were right GoldenEagle, this went down to the wire. #24 is beast. Can't wait for the game in Cheney.

That was a great game. Both teams played their hearts out.

Wow! I couldn't have been more wrong. EWU played great D and I don't think we were prepared for what they did. They slowed down and tried to use the whole shot clock and I don't think we were prepared for that either. Wiley is a load and we left Hill on an island for most of the game. We did a better job on him in the second half, but I don't think anyone is going to stop that kid. EWU didn't need much depth for that game. I certainly hope we are better prepared for them the next time we play.

To his credit Halfoard didn't stomp the floor or throw any fits this time, He did ride the refs the whole game, but he did it a lot quieter than he usually does.

Eastern will make some noise this year with Wiley. Without him, they would be lower half of the BSC.

Oh man what a game. I love it when the players and the fans get into the game like that. No one in the Big Sky can match our atmosphere and tonight it was on point and helped the team a lot.

Great win Weber. Time to take it back on the road against two tough teams

I can't believe UM let Wiley go (I'm glad he's not a Griz still), he was a beast tonight. That was an intense game.

Eastern was so pysched up coming out I thought they might have difficulties late. They played Senglin as well as you could. We went 20 for 22 from the FT line or you would have put this on in the L column (well that and John). Fun game. Wiley was something else to watch. Even with his talent, I'm not sure you'll see him ever put a line like he did tonight. He was in a zone...
