GoldenEagle was spot on with his prediction  ...great atmosphere...fun to see this type of competitive game...Coach Rahe said Wiley was not stoppable tonight, fodder for some re-approach thinking come time when game in Cheney happens... great Wildcats win under pressure. :thumb:

Wow!! That was a fun game. A big thumbs up the the Eagles. They played their hearts out tonight. Wiley was a beast and virtually unstoppable. Griz fans should be pissed he's in Cheney.

Weber needed some time to figure things out and get the offense flowing. Speed was the Achilles heal for the Eagles. Weber starts running it is really hard to beat the Cats. That's why the cards are so frustrating at times.

To answer Ballers question...right now we have 14 signed for 13 spots, but do you really think Cannon will be "counseled" out when there are two bigs who most likely will never play for the Cats? He's having a sophomore slump but will bring plenty to the program going forward. His confidence is shot and he is playing slower than last year but I think he is someone you definitely want on your team.

Tal, are you counting Gittens in your 14? I think there is good reason to expect him to get a medical redshirt and be eligible for next year.

Last night I mentioned to the friend I usually take to the games that when they recruited Cannon at 17 there was no way you could predict his body-type at age 22. In the right situations he does really good things running the team. But he's a blocky kid now who's quickness is gone. I highly doubt you counsel him out unless his desire is to play more minutes. I can see that he has a role for the Cats, but it's going to be off the bench with limited minutes.

Cannon contributes in a lot of ways and is well liked by everyone. As long as he is happy with his role on the team I am sure that the coaches will want to keep him. Sure, he has been in a little slump, but he can bounce back from that. I like the way he runs the team when he is out there.

This year we have no depth in the front court. Next year is a different story. With what we have added we would have too many front court players next year. I really have no idea what Gittens's status for next year is. I think there are a lot of options going forward. We are set up to have a strong team for many years to come. :coffee:

As Pirate says Cannon "is a blocky kid whose quickness is gone". I would add that he has also lost the aggressiveness he showed late in last years season and his 3-point shooting ability has disappeared. Probably those losses are the result of loss of confidence; but quickness is a DNA based problem that cannot be corrected. He just has too much slow-twitch fiber in his body makeup that doesn't work for a 6' point guard who is playing at the Division One level of basketball. As a result he cannot stay in a game for very long because he is constantly a step behind with his on-ball defense and fouls when anyone drives on him. Gonna take more than a restoration of confidence to fix that... I like Cannon also, just as I liked Fuller before he was "counseled out" and surfaced as a lower level of college ball. Just can't fix a lack of quickness! I agree that he might carve out a small role for himself if he stays at Weber, but why wouldn't he want to transfer to a place where he can play lots of minutes, start, and be a big part of a program?

Why wouldn't Gittens be a medical redshirt this year and be given another year to play by the NCAA? I am sure he will be awarded such if he wants it. Does anyone know any reason that he does not want to come back?

By my count we have 15 guys for 13 slots next year. We gotta lose 2! I think one of the freshman bigs (maybe Darling) and Cannon has to go. If my math is wrong please correct me. Tal, do you have inside info that tells you that neither of the two English bigs will ever play for Weber? I have no idea if they are any good or not. (Heard Darling dropped 36 in an all-star event in England, lol.) Haven't seen Darling play at all and only saw Stavrev early last season for a few minutes. Someone here mentioned that ex-coach, Abegglin, said that Stavrev had the best shot on the team. Does anyone know any more about those two guys? Runner is right, if we kept all our bigs next year there would be an overstocked issue (7). But if one of them (probably Chapman) was moved to the Wing and we lost one we would be down to 5, a good number. Is there any chance that Chapman will play a wing next year?

If I were the head football coach at Weber I would be recruiting like crazy Kyndahl Hill as a defensive end (God knows we need one) and Richaud Gittens as a WR for next season. Those two guys might just add a new dimension to the team if he could get them to play. It would be exciting to see what they could do...

What is interesting is that Cannon looked the most poised, confident and aggressive in our NCAA tournament game against Xaiver. I had him pegged to be our break out player this season. Something does appear to be off from the level he was at last season.

I agree that Darling is not D1 level talent and like Tal I am completely dumbfounded by his recruitment. You know the phrase "Bull in a China closet", George Darling is a China in a Bull closet. It is too soon to be worrying about who will not be back next year. The Cats are on a 7 and 1/8 game winning streak. With two wins that were gutted out in the end. Eastern, Montana and Weber are the top level of the Big Sky this season. UND and Portland State appear to be on that second level.

I am not counting Gittens getting a scholarship next year. I don't even know if he will get his SR year back. Frankly, the program has been really quiet about Gittens. Who knows what coach is thinking. I Personally think that coach is fine with him coming back, but if he does, I think it is without a scholarship. Heavens, is that even possible? Who knows if that is even allowed by the NCAA. Compliance? Can you help us out with this?

As for Cannon he had the skills and speed last year. I think the focus on strength training has hurt him. With other players it has been a benefit, but with Cannon and his body type the training needs to be adjusted. Yoga perhaps, swimming maybe? He has the strength but needs the speed. By the way, yes, you can train for speed (answering Baller); especially if he has already shown it in the recent past. His problem is mental. He has no confidence in his game. He needs to let lose and start having fun. He is way too tight on the floor. He needs to relax and stop putting so much pressure on himself. Just enjoy the process.

I hate to speak badly about players, but Darling isn't a DI guy right now. He can become one, but is a couple of years away. A couple of years at a good JC would be great for him. Kiko has upside, but his injuries are a major concern, especially an ACL. That is a really hard injury to come back from and play at a high level. Besides, next year where will he get mins? Braxton, Chapman, Dallas, The Czech kid, and the Finn. I just don't see him getting mins.

Tal, have you heard anything about how good the Czech or Finn might, or might not, be? Will either or both of them be ready to help the team this coming year?

Great question! I'm not 100% sure. I've heard that the Czech kid could play right away next season and if we didn't have Brekkot, he could start. We are lucky to have gotten him. He visited a number of other schools when he came to the U.S. His recruitment really blew up last year after playing for the U-18 Czech National Team. He ended up being one of the top scorers for the Czechs and he was the teams best rebounder. But, you never know until they hit the hardwood.

The Finn...well. He is actually quite polished on the offensive side of the court. He also had a really nice summer playing for the Finnish U-18 team. That alone says something. Both of these guys were playing for their respective national teams.
