Embarrassing Article in Easterner

That's not the Easterner. That's the EWU Alumni magazine.

As for your comments, I couldn't disagree with you more.
The Alumni Magazine is showcasing some of our Alumns who are doing well for themselves in a LEGAL arena. No different than talking about Alums who are successful brewery owners, etc. The fact is, recreational marijuana is legal in Washington, and it's a very lucrative and emerging business. I'm happy the Alumni magazine is showing our alums being successful in emerging fields. And a field that by the way is generating millions upon millions of dollars for education and other services.

And you're definitely in the minority. For one, it was voted to legalize in Washington state, meaning a majority of citizens wanted it. And nationally, support for marijuana legalization is at an all time high and polling above 50%. i.e. majority. http://www.washingtonpost.com/news/wonkblog/wp/2015/10/21/gallup-nearly-60-percent-of-americans-want-legal-marijuana/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Furthermore, it's going to be legal in Montana (and every state) soon enough anyways, so no one will be using this to "diminish" Washington at all. If anything, (and using this to talk about recruiting is a bit stretch anyways), parents should be happy to know that their kids can go to a school like EWU and get a business degree or a botany degree or a number of other degrees and use that degree in a very booming and quickly emerging industry.

As an alum, it was embarrassing to see this article promoting Alums who are profiting from a gateway drug.

Sadly, I've decided to pull out of EAF. Not interested in donating to a university that promotes drug use even if it is legal in some states.

I hope I'm not the only alum to do so. If I'm a Montana or MSU coach on the recruiting trail, I'm showing this to every EWU recruit's parent to diminish EWU's academics.

Great effort is being exerted to raise EWUs academic profile and the Alumni publication promotes this???

For an outsider what message is this sending to prospective student athletes on the type of education they'll received????

I may be in the minority here, but feel it's important to raise the standard of EWUs reputation.

Ugh. This is a wildy irrational post. Seriously, grow, and lighten up. :ohno:
