Embarrassing loss

It was hands down, a bad game. We did not play our best.

Gage didn't have his best game, and unfortunetly, football is a momentum game. SUU is hot right now; they've knocked off 3 ranked opponents, so far. We never really got going. There were some terrible decisions, but at the end of the day, we need our offense to make plays. We need to adjust, too. I don't think any adjustments were made. They didn't seem flat, but didn't really ever have a ton of energy; like we typically see our high-flying offense. We are better than this!!!!

In regards to playing Eric; sorry, I strongly disagree. Eric is simply not ready. He's proven that in the times he has played this season. This is his first year!!!! Until we give him opportunities to play (such as blow outs or non-close games), I don't see him getting an real game experience. Gage is our starter for a reason.

Our fan base is always so quick to blame the defense when things go sour. But, last night, our offense couldn't really do anything. They put our defense in TERRIBLE situations. Late in the game, Gage didn't have anyone to throw to, so he started running, and instead of going down, he just tossed it away... in the hands of an SUU body. This was at the 13!!!!!!! And we had just come out, so again, defense is back on the field. No breathers whatsoever. You add that to the high elevation, and you're just asking for a disaster.

The sun did rise this AM, and we have 2 weeks to prep for Weber. We need to work on our discipline; specifically our penalties AND turnovers those two things are absolutely killing us!!

Agree with everything except you lost me with the great myth of momentum.:

To put it simply, momentum is a myth. There is no magic fairy dust that you can just sprinkle on a team to help them catch the great momentum spirit god.

However, while momentum is an urban legend, confidence is real and always at play. During the flow of a game or season, people often talk about momentum shifting positively or negatively. They think It can happen rather quickly as a team is struggling, a play happens, and boom, different team. But the reality is that’s confidence at play, not the great myth of the momentum spirit god.

Confidence comes from many sources, but the most important source (in my opinion) is associated with being a fundamentally sound football team.

We are nowhere close to being a fundamentally sound team. That is a simple truth, and we shouldn't fool ourselves. That explains why our successes are chaotically random and lack consistency the entire year, thus far.

I think we should reduce the playbook and focus on the fundamentals and get fundamentally sound blocking, tackling, ball security, stripping drills, leverage, etc.

It's time to start playing fundamentally sound football. Players knowing their assignments and everyone being in the right positions all at the right angles, etc. That will help this team gain confidence and will go a long way of solving our problems. This coaching staff will get us there with time. That's my two cents.

Intriguing and solid post.

Dumb penalties and turnovers are within our control and can be minimized. What concerns most right now (and you could see it implied by our players and coaches in the post game a little) is that we were out-physicalled. This has been the case in all three of our losses. We're not winning enough battles up front on both sides of the ball. It was cool to see us take some chances with blitzes last night, but they were picked up or arrived late without enough disruptive penetration. We looked tired and worn down at times. Perhaps the altitude played a roll?

Some of it can be chalked up to injury and some of it can be mitigated with maturation and scheme. Next up...Weber State who is also a very physical team. Stay tuned....

What changed after the first qtr? We marched down the field first possession and scored in less that 3 min. Runback for TD then the fumble to stop next drive but we were up 14-0 at that point. We did not seem to be out physical-ed through the first qtr. 4th qtr could be fatigue or altitude but 1st qtr?

We did OK against TTU and NDSU for a quarter as well. Recognizing weaknesses and adjusting?

Are you implying they adjusted and we did not?
( I'm still p/o'ed by the name of this thread! Disappointment yes, embarrassing NO)

Don't let it bother you too much, the originator of this thread is one of the two or three bandwagon fans on here that only seem to come around after a poor performance or to bitch about 18-23 y.o. student athletes not performing to their personal standards.

Based on performance, he should be benched. Our other options are a RS Freshman and a true Freshman so I doubt it will happen. The ironic part is that we had a chance to make Reilly Hennessey the starter last year and didn't. Now he's tearing it up at CWU.

Yeah picking GG over Hennessey was a HUGE mistake. GG is nothing more then a gun slinger who had the best WR's in FCS history last year. That trio could make most QB's look good. GG's decision making is SO bad, he constantly is forcing ball into places he shouldn't be, and Saturday it finally cost us a VERY winnable game. Shame....

Why was Gubrud left in the game? After throwing 3 horrible picks tonight and repeatedly turning the ball over all season long, when is enough enough? It's time to sit Gubrud's ass on the bench and give EB a shot. He can't be any worse than what we saw tonight.

The only thing embarrassing here is you and JasonEWU. You are fair weather fans.

ha ha good one Greg. So sick of this TIRED narrative. You cant be critical of your team? Just because we post things that are not all sunshine and butterflies doesn't make us less of a fan. Toughen up snowflake.

Part of the fun of boards is different opinions, but then there is the stupid ones like taking out your best chance of winning for an unproven inexperienced freshman and set him up to fail. Ya thats a good way to build confidence!
I guess if someone is so easily embarrassed they were not much of a fan in the first place.

You go way beyond being just "critical".

We will be just fine. Would rather have that type of game now than later in the season. Eric will get his chance soon enough.
