I am sick of this losing shit. I will not be going to homecoming for the first time in 7 years. I am beyond pissed off right now. I'll always love UNC, but I won't spend another dime on this football program until we get better talent and a new coaching staff on.

what has happened, and what I feared would happen is that there is now a culture of losing, it's like we do everything to win and choke... and yeah it's bad luck but you also make your own luck too so I'm not going to accept that it's just bad luck... we let the loses occur. there is never an excuse for giving up a hail mary, our DB's just aren't good enough.

Beardown and the rest of you; you call yourselves fans? You see a team that fought its heart out tonight, on the road with 10,000 screaming UC Davis fans, and all you can do is bash the program. Beardown, don't spend another dime on the program (you probably don't spend many dimes on it anyway) and please don't come to homecoming. This program doesn't need support like your's.
Everyone else who wants to see this program succeed, now is the time to show your support. We should fill the stadium for homecoming. Let the team know that we appreciate their hard work and effort. Believe me they want to win as much as you do. And in my opinion, we were the better team on the field tonight.
Beardown, if you jump off now, don't come back when this team starts to win. The last thing this team needs is weak, fair weather fans like you.

hey #1bearsfan, what kind of kool-aid are you drinking? After 2 wins in 3 years, how can you not agree that its time for Downing and his entire staff to be shown the door? How will this team lose to Idaho State? We as fans need to expect more from this team and Scott Downing's program than the garbage that they are putting out on the field now. Its time to start over

I don't know what games you've been watching but I've seen a team in the last three weeks that was one play away from 3 wins. These young men played a hell of a game tonight and in my opinion UNC was the better team.
The problem is that this program has had no money until recently ($400K from Purdue and that's not all that much). Have you seen the locker-room these guys have to dress in? Have you seen the weight room? I've seen many high school weight rooms that are bigger and better. How are you going to recruit the "difference maker" kids with the facilities, not to mention the fans or the lack thereof, at UNC? CSU-Pueblo puts you guys to shame. Go online and take a look at the facilities they have. They're a D2 program and haven't played football in 26 years.
I had read or heard that one of the Monfort's was supposed to give a million dollars to the football program. Where's that money?
Downing's not the problem. The Greeley/UNC community and the piss poor support is the problem.

Greeley and UNC football both suck. I am disgusted with both. Since I was a little kid, I've supported the Bears, but won't until idiot Downing is gone and the rest of his staff. I could have told the team to freaking COVER THE BACK OF THE ENDZONE on a a hail marry. That's high school shit.

Well, this weekend we play Idaho State who has yet to win. It's obvious that the team is better than they have been in 2 years but it's still not good enough. I think if the Bears don't win this one at home, it may be (should be) Downing's last game. I win there could propel us to another 2-3 wins this season (nobody, even Purdue has really blown us out yet so I think they are good enough to hang with and surprise some teams).

I won't be going to anymore games until Downing is gone and I hope the team loses every game just to punctuate the need to fire that pathetic shitbag! That is the worst excuse for a coaching staff I've ever seen! And blaming our facilities and budget is complete bullshit! How is it that SDSU and UCD were both successful right from the start of their transition and their budgets and facilities were no better than ours? How can our budget and facilities explain that our team is worse than it was in D2? I would be willing to bet that Central Arkansas' budget and facilities aren't that great either and they are ranked top 25 and they are still in transition. Enough with the excuses! The ONLY reason we suck is because our coaches suck!

I have to agree with whats being said on this board. I've been a Bears fan since I was little, I remember going to all the playoff games when they were a division 2 power. To see the struggling for wins in the past few years is rough.

I have to admit they look a lot better this year then what I've seen, thanks to the new transfer Brain Waggener. What bothers me is that they could easily be 3-1 but are 0-4, and I think it has to do a lot with coaching, watching the Texas State game when UNC caught the ball at the 1 inch line there was enough time to run a play in because the refs were taking forever to spot the ball. Why not line up in that power I and smash it in? Then against Northern Arizona trying for 2, when you've only won 2 games in the last 3 years, come on kick the extra point tie the game put your defense back on the field and make Northern Arizona beat you instead of beating yourselves. Then last night I really don't know what to say, I saw the picture this morning and there were 5 UNC defenders and 1 UC Davis receiver, I'm not a coach but I would've had every DB on the team in the end zone. I saw the video on YouTube, what were they in man coverage?!

If there is some good, I guess its the fact that they've been in every game this year (except Purdue) at least they're not getting blown every game like last year and the year before. I really hope they can muster up a few wins this season, I love going to UNC games better than CSU or CU, I hope they can get their first victory against Idaho State.

First, "covering the back of the end zone"...The catch was made among 5 defenders. The receiver outjumped the three in front of him at the FRONT of the end zone. A lucky play, but remember, the other team is playing to win, too.

That said, those of who screaming for Downing's head should spend some time around the players. Ask them how they feel going into games this year. Ask about their preparation for games. Ask about their development. Ask about how they feel about their teammates and the talent amassed. Every thing being complained about here is 180-degrees opposite what the players will tell you.

Players say this coaching staff has them better prepared for every game than they ever have been. The talent level is greatly improved over the past years. The groundwork is there, it just hasn't manifested itself in W's yet. It's the toughest hump to get over consistently when you're a program that has reached a low point.

Also, remember something else: UC Davis played Montana to the last minute, losing in the waning moments. While not on a hail mary, they still had that one ripped away from them. Everybody goes through those games at some point. It just happens that UNC has had them for three straight weeks--though the first was a win, twice over, no thanks to crappy officiating.

I had an observer outside of the program last night note how much different our team and the program is than it was when it last visited Davis (2005). Frustrating that its three straight losses, yes, but take a longer view, and you see a different story than what's being painted here.

One other thing: I constantly see messages here assailing where the program is because of our "tradition". Can any of you answer me this: how many FB coaches in school history have winning records? The national championship years were more an extreme highlight, rather than the norm.

State schools that get much better funding than UNC ever receives from the legislature. Also, they put in place plans to handle the increase in scholarships in ways the previous AD ensured didn't happen. If you doubt that some background things were done to hamper Northern Colorado during the transition, you just need to remember that same former AD presented the football program with its worst ever trip--Maine--on his way out the door. That cost the program huge $$$. This is also the same former AD who tried to ensure that we would not be brought into the Big Sky.

Certain donors backing out of their promises (Coors), an AD intent on submarining things on his way out the door, and a state government that can't figure out that higher ed can't survive without funding, and you've got the perfect storm.

Every disgruntled fan here should try to forget about the last 4 losses and try to live in the "now". UNC may be winless, but the last 3 teams they played they had no business losing to. It is no longer the time to say "I won't watch until they get some talent" or "I won't watch until they get good coaches" -- we're there! The UNC football program has shown that they can hang with anybody, that they're sick and tired of losing, and then this happens! It's as if the football gods are playing a terrible joke. And to boot the fans decide that they are just going to turn there back instead of try to give that last little push that this program needs. It is within reason that this football team could end the season 8-4, STAY POSITIVE!

Enough is enough. That's the title of this thread and I'm sticking to it. I know the team has improved but they keep losing that's the bottom line. I hope only a 1,000 people show up for homecoming because that shows the AD and staff that people won't accept this crap anymore.

We just needed a couple wins and Downing would be loved, I mean if we were 2-2 right now even people would crown him King.

And I've been the worst critic but the team is miles and miles ahead of last year and the trajectory is up so I'm trying to focus on that.

A change in coaches after this year would be a return to ground zero and I just can't handle that.

If we can just lay the wood to Idaho State this week then that will be the start of something in my opinion.

Also, the loses are a test, so I'm not bailing out now I've been here too long.

I agree with the point you're trying to make, but pulling off 8 straight wins when UNC will be playing a few ranked opponents is going to be a tough task.

Bad coaches find ways to lose games. Bad teams find ways to lose games. There was nothing unlucky about the hail mary Saturday - the Bears did not make a play and the Aggies did. There was nothing unlucky about the two point conversion - it was a stupid call. There was nothing unlucky about the fumble at the goalline - it was a bad call and a bad play. Excuses are for losers and unfortunately that is where the bears are right now.

Players always support their coach. The fact is this team is not well prepared. Poor play calls, poor execution, turnovers, you name it the losses speak for themselves. I don't think a new coach would mean starting over from ground zero and even if it was would we notice? 2 - 24 gets you fired in Pop Warner football. If we want to be a big time FCS school, we shouldn't accept this.

The team is better and may very well be in every game going forward. The problem is they may very well lose every game going forward. I actually don't think that will happen, I think they will pull a couple out actually - man I HOPE, I HOPE.

Whatever excuses everyone wants to make - facilities, money, old AD's, poor fan support, bad refs, jock straps that are too tight, whatever. Excuses are for losers and I'm sick of both (excuses and losing that is).

"Players always support their coach."

That's a fallacy right there. It's why Chris Denker was fired from CSU's womens hoops gig three years ago--the players basically held a mutiny.

Again, I understand the frustration at the losses--hell, I'm almost embarassed at my reax Saturday night to the play, but there variables that have to be accounted for.

What is worse though, losing like this ever week or losing by 4 touchdowns every week like last year?

So the team is much better and they obviously have another step to take and in sports you quite often have to lose before you can win. Unfortunatly the losing has been worse here than just about anywhere else but as mentioned above they aren't that far away from being a .500 team. Last year they weren't even close and didn't deserve to win, now they are a play or two away.

Personally I'd rather lose every week on a hail mary than lose every week by 4 touchdowns. I think the mentality now has to be that we must always insure we have at least a 9 point lead in the 4th quarter because if not we'll somehow find a way to blow it. :x

I think close losses are better for the program, but they are certianly harder on me. I thought we had won this one, I checked the score with like 15 sec left and thought we had it wrapped up....

As far as starting over with a new coach - I dont think any coach could do worse than 2-24. But I do have to say that as of this momement the downward spiral seems to have stopped, and we are on our way back up again, so maybe Downing is taking the right steps to build the program. I just dont know at this point, however with Jay's hair trigger for coaches I will be shocked if he keeps his job.
