In ESPN's Way too early Bracketology this morning they have WSU as a #16 seed facing #1 Kansas in Tulsa..
No real surprises just more of an FYI thing.

According to this, WSU will be the ONLY instate team in the Big Dance yet again...yet Utah and BYU basketball get all the love from the local media. :ohno:

Duh... That's because they are better than us, and more people in the state care about them. What do you expect? It's not like we would have a chance going to the NCAA tournament without winning in Reno.

Wow man no need to be pissy about things...Maybe have some coffee before posting :coffee:

It has nothing to do with whether or not they are better than us. Tradition, fanbase, size of the schools, and fact that they play FBS football helps.

Weber could win 10 straight NCAA tourney games while everyone else in the state doesn't and we will still be little brother, we could win the FCS national championship 10 years in a row but in their eyes it's still the "FCS" National Championship.

For what it's worth, the local media has also started to do a pretty good job of ignoring Utah State as well.

Sorry not pissy... ok, what media coverage do you expect WSU should be getting?

SLC media sports priority list:
1. Jazz
2a. Utah
2b. BYU
3. USU
4. RSL
5. SLC/Provo High school sports
6. WSU
7. UVU
8. SUU
9. Grizzly Hockey
10. Dixie

I'm not seeing any more or less than what it has always been, typically game coverage from TV, SLC papers will cover big games or periodically an article. Standard Examiner coverage, that's about it. I don't expect that SLC media or the standard will fly out anyone to actually cover the 'Cat's if they make the NCAA tournament.

I hate to even write this, but I wouldn't count the Utes out.

The PAC got such favoritism last year with 7 teams and 7 of the 11 teams from the entire West. Despite the fact that the league completely pissed all over themselves in the tourney, I still believe the favoritism they are constantly shown will continue. I don't think they'll get 7 teams again, but I think they'll get 5, which I think will put the Utes in.

That conference builds it's record on staying home all preseason -- and then you don't know how good the teams are when their conference starts, or even when the get to the tourney. It's all smoke and mirrors and the biggest lie in college basketball, RPI. Collette makes the Utes so much better than they would be... I hate that "team" (actually "university" would be more accurate).

Hard to think of a 16 seed as being an improvement, but I looked at it yesterday and it had Weber playing New Orleans in one of the 16 seed play-in games, with the winner playing 1 seed Kentucky.

I couldn't have said it any better.

We are soooo concerned about RPI, but look at the conferences with "high" RPI's. Most played the vast majority of their OOC games at home against sub-par competition. Look at the Utes schedule. 12 OOC games. They played 2 "High" major teams in Butler and Xavier; one at home and one on the road (losing both games). Three neutral court games at the Diamond Head Classic and the rest at home. And those home games were against some great competition. Utah Valley, Montana State, Prairie View, Coppin State, Riverside and the might powerhouses of Northwest Nazarene, and Concordia. It is sooo important for Ute fans to watch longtime rivalry games against the Coppin State Eagles other than playing other in state programs. What a joke!

I think we will end up, if we win in reno, with a 15.

The Signpost would probably be there if they did. They were in Reno and St. Louis last season.

Who cares what the local media thinks. Let's win some games no one believes we can and force 'em to cover us.

The media was all over UVU beating BYU.

I would MUCH, MUCH rather Weber be higher than a 16 seed and potentially avoid as bad of an @$$ kicking, but if they and the Zags are destine to be 16 and 1, I like that match-up and location as well as anything else.

Amen!

Salt Lake would be a very "partisan" crowd favor the Cats; just a bit.

I was just thinking that we could upset the Zags. Of all the #1 seeds, we could beat them. It wouldn't be easy, but hell, it's just basketball. Nothing is set in stone, especially if we get a nice home crowd with truly neutral officiating.
