ESPN's College Hoops Tip-Off Marathon

USA Today reports that ESPN will have live college basketball all through the night (and early morning hours) November 17th-November 18th. I guess that explains the early morning start time listed on the official site for the ISU-Hawaii game...

The idea, says ESPN programmer Ilan Ben-Hanan, was to create a made-for-TV "stunt" to give college basketball a sort of round-the-clock opening day — albeit days after games are already being played.

ESPN's College Hoops Tip-Off Marathon, which will be formally announced Wednesday, will get a handy lead-in from the Cleveland Browns-Buffalo Bills on Monday Night Football. It will begin just past midnight Eastern time on Nov. 18 with Massachusetts at Memphis, a team which reached last season's NCAA title game.

Then, ESPN will follow with two games each tipping at 11 p.m. local time — Fresno State at St. Mary's in Moraga, Calif., and then Idaho State at Hawaii — which will amount to a sort of time travel experience for East Coasters: Because of time zone differences they each begin on Nov. 17.

Frank notes several changes to the upcoming ISU basketball schedule, including the Bengals' ESPN debut (albeit at 2:07 a.m.). They include moving the last two conference home games to Reed to accommodate the state wrestling tournament at Holt (and here's hoping they charge $10 bucks a car parking fees!):

glad to see the Bengals will be on ESPN, though a bit early. But here we go again moving basketball games from Holt to Reed to accommodate other demands on Holt. It must be tough to run a D1 basketball program without a true home court. The final two games we may find ourselves fighting to host the tourney and then we will play in Reed in front of 3,000 fans if we are lucky. Goodness, the problems.

Whaddya mean? We move into Holt after football season is over, don't we? At least, that's how it's supposed to be?! At least Reed can provide us something Holt can't: Home court advantage. The proximity to the court is incredible. Reed has the potential to be a sweltering hell-hole for opposing teams!
