EWU 2022 Season Info and News

Congrats to Gunner T. cause sounds like Best has top choice at this point...suppose his to lose.
They will let balls fly and fly these next few weeks under close scrutiny and pull out the best one.
My thought in spring was why hadnt SIMON BURKETT seen the ball more than he has cause he looked the best to me.

Going down the roster to see what there is to see.... a couple new faces... Add to the list if you noticed any unannounced changes. Seems there may be a few of special teams adds here.

Jaren Banks LB Transfer from Rice: two seasons where he appeared in four games and recorded a tackle. In 2020, he saw action in three games. In 2021, he recorded one tackle in his lone game against Arkansas.

DL 6'3" 258 lbs Robert Cooper Transfer from Boise last year. Hope he's healthy and ready to go. No pic on roster though.

Sherwin King TR LB from Fresno: Played three seasons at Fresno State, appearing in 19 games with three starts. He recorded 23 tackles, one sack, and one forced fumble. Lots of special teams play

Alphonse Oywak TR DB WSU Played in two games across two seasons and recorded three tackles.

Derek Tommasini TR LB Idaho: Played at Idaho for two seasons, beginning with the Spring of 2020-21 and the Fall of 2021, appearing in six games total at the linebacker position. In 2020-21, he made his Vandal debut against UC Davis and recorded 13 tackles (1.5 for loss) in the season-finale at Northern Arizona. The 2021 season saw him play in six games, totaling seven tackles.

Austin York TR TE/LS Butte College: Spent two seasons at Butte College where his dad coaches the defensive line. He played both tight end and long snapper at Butte where he tallied 14 receptions for 174 yards and a touchdown last season

Missing: Nevada LB commit Touray..... Liked his build

Thx lucky, starting to take shape and see some clarity.

Gotta say the uni's look pretty sweet...

From an older 2022 thread on the LB's that were on the roster at the end of the season. Feel free to add any tape from the new adds or transfers..

Time to look at the LB's on the roster: There is a lot of speed in the Graham mode. athletes.

In no order...

Daniel Taumoepeau -- like his speed. Aggressive player, contains the edge, plays heads up. not sure about his coverage skills from the tape

Shane Aleaga -- Like him more in a 4-3 as a MLB from the tape. Good size

Emilio Veater -- was mr. everything in HS. good speed, lots of upside

Ahmani Williams -- Speed, speed, speed

Trevor Thurman -- a little thicker, another MLB in a 4-3 also a bruising RB

Conner O'Farrell -- POY on defense in Alaska

Steven Flowers -- small school, never seems to be fooled, likes contact

Transfer from Idaho and Fresno (old HS hudl)

FCS college gameday? Sounds too good to be true. Hope it's fun to watch.

FCS gets it's own "gameday" Friday nights on ESPN+ I'm going to try to tune in. Should be wall to wall NDSU coverage. Who doesn't love to hear people mispronounce Bison all night? It's like listening to someone with a lisp affectation.

Eastern Washington Football Coaches Show https://goeags.com/news/2022/8/25/f...gton-football-coaches-show-set-to-return.aspx

The radio show begins at 6 p.m. and may be heard on 700-AM ESPN, 105.3-FM, and via The Varsity Network mobile phone app. EWU football and men's basketball games may also be heard via those methods, with Weir beginning his 32nd season as football play-by-play announcer on Saturday (Sept. 3) when the Eagles host Tennessee State at Roos Field. Sorensen begins his 20th year as analyst.

I haven't watched this or listened to these people before. BTW, is there a replay of the coaches show anywhere?

edit: I watched. Kylor needs to step up his game. Mostly entertaining not more knowledgeable than our top posters when it comes to Eastern but enjoyed the overall general knowledge of the BigSky

Not having an in-person show is pretty weak. Speaking personally I started following EWU at coaches shows hosted by "the big human" , Wolff, and Baldwin. If not for those tape breakdowns of the games I wouldn't be here. It seems this administration just doesn't get it. At the scrimmage last week there was not even rosters available for fans. How do you expect to build a fan base if the fans don't even know the players. How much does a ream of paper cost? or is it just lack of effort?
I hope things get better with new President of fan base will continue to decline.

man-o-man this is weak sauce...use to have last Fall scrimmage on SWX on occasion...I'm going over the roster to try and get familiar with new faces/names...looks to me like some special team goblins to shore up special teams...that's good!

Athletics do seem like an afterthought at Eastern no matter how many pictures the new President takes with all the sports teams. Actions are louder than selfie's.

Maybe its just me, but it seems the hype around falls sports has fallen short this year. I know we have somewhat of a dud home football schedule, but I feel in years past there was a lot more build up. I have a bad feeling our games will be half full this year... Sure hope i'm wrong...

I have the same concerns. Guess we'll find out on Saturday. I was at the UNI game last December and the turnout was pathetic. Given the number of athletic dept employees, the fact that there really isn't a single marketing person among them seems like a massive oversight.

yeah the recent administrations have done a shit job of building long term support for football and athletics in general. here's another take on the Eagles from Kylor.

This. All of this.

This has been one of the biggest issues this school/program has had since I went to school there (2007-2010). Even with over a decade of being one of the best football programs in the country at a consistent clip, this powers that be cannot market or hype up the program one bit. It's pretty pathetic tbh. It feels like a strange mix of apathy, a genuine confusion that they could/should be doing more to promote the program and a complacency that what is being done is plenty. It feels 2nd rate and can be deflating as a fan and a proud alum.
